April 24, 2016 breaking Comments Off on Bishop Schneider: God needs the ‘simple faithful’ to protect the faith in this time of crisis

HUNGARY, April 22, 2016 (LifeSiteNews)—The Catholic Church is facing widespread internal confusion about doctrine and morals and God can use the laity to preserve the Church’s integrity, Bishop Athanasius Schneider, auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Maria Santissima in Astana, Kazakhstan, said in a new interview conducted in March. Schneider spoke of problems with episcopal conferences’ focus on “earthly” rather than “eternal” matters, lamented the discordant voices of bishops on topics of sexual morality, and blasted Cardinal Kasper’s notion

RICHMOND, Virginia, April 21, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) — The U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals has decided a teenage girl has an inalienable right to use the boys’ showers, locker rooms, and restrooms at her high school. The American Civil Liberties Union brought suit against Gloucester High School in Virginia on behalf of Caitlyn Hope Grimm, a girl suffering from gender identity disorder. Grimm, who now goes by Gavin, asserts that she has the right to use the boys’ bathrooms and facilities. The ruling, which refers to Grimm as as a male, reverses U.S. District Court Judge Robert George Doumar’s order disallowing Caitlyn to use the same facilities as teenage boys.

April 19, 2016 breaking Comments Off on Obama Threatens 10 States That Defunded Planned Parenthood After It Sold Aborted Baby Parts

The Obama administration is threatening the 10 states that have defunded the Planned Parenthood abortion business after it as caught selling the body parts of aborted babies. Obama officials are sending letters to all states claiming that defunding Planned Parenthood is against federal law — in a move that could be a precursor to lawsuits against the states cutting of taxpayer funds. The 10 states that have defunded the Planned Parenthood abortion company are Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and Wisconsin. And bills in the legislatures of Minnesota and Missouri would add them to the list.

Francis Asks If All Our Decisions Are Made in Jesus’ Name; Stresses ‘Follow Him,’ Not ‘Fortune Tellers,’ Nor ‘Alleged Visionaries’ April 18, 2016•Deborah Castellano Lubov• When we make decisions, do we make them in Jesus’ name? Pope Francis urged the faithful in his chapel to ask themselves this, during his daily morning Mass this morning at Casa Santa Marta, reported Vatican Radio. Moreover, during his homily, the Pope stressed that Christian life can be pretty easy if you always remember to listen to Jesus’ voice–only–and remember where one always finds it. The Pope drew inspiration from yesterday’s Gospel according to St. John which recounted Jesus the Good Shepherd Who cares for His sheep. “He who does not enter the sheepfold…Continue Reading

Pope Francis seems to approve Card. Schönborn’s explanation of #AmorisLaetitia

April 17, 2016 breaking Comments Off on Pope Francis seems to approve Card. Schönborn’s explanation of #AmorisLaetitia

Two of the nine questions Francis answered in 30 minutes were about his apostolic exhortation on the family, Amoris Laetitia. One journalist asked the pope point-blank if the document changed anything for divorced and remarried couples, who currently can’t receive Communion. The pope said “Yes, and that’s it.” [!] “I could leave it there, but this would be a simplistic answer. What I ask you is to read the presentation of the document made by Cardinal [Christoph] Schonborn.”

April 16, 2016 breaking Comments Off on Pope takes 12 Syrian refugees with him on plane back to Rome

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis took three Syrian families and their six children back with him on the plane to Italy when he left the Greek island of Lesbos after his 6-hour visit there. The Syrian refugees, numbering 12 in total, were chosen from amongst those who were already present in the refugee camp on Lesbos before the recent deal was signed between the EU and Turkey. The Director of the Holy See’s Press Office, Father Federico Lombardi, said the Pope had wished to make a gesture of welcome and solidarity on behalf of the refugees and the initiative had been organized and made possible during discussions between the (Vatican) Secretariat of State and the relevant Greek and Italian authorities. Pope’s Morning Homily: Want Joy? Be Docile to Holy Spirit

April 15, 2016 breaking Comments Off on Pope’s Morning Homily: Want Joy? Be Docile to Holy Spirit

At Casa Santa Marta, Also Suggests a Prayer to Say Whenever You Feel Doubt, Uncertainty April 14, 2016•Deborah Castellano Lubov• If you want joy, do not resist the Holy Spirit, but be docile to Him. Pope Francis stressed this during his daily morning Mass this morning at Casa Santa Marta, reported Vatican Radio. The Pope drew inspiration from today’s first reading from the Acts of the Apostles in which Philip evangelized the Ethiopian, a senior official of Queen Candace, and pointed out how the protagonist of the meeting was not Philip nor the Ethiopian, but rather the Holy Spirit. “It is He who does things. It is the Spirit who gives birth to and grows the Church.” “In days past,…Continue Reading

Cardinal Burke’s puzzling response to the pope’s exhortation…makes perfect sense

April 14, 2016 breaking Comments Off on Cardinal Burke’s puzzling response to the pope’s exhortation…makes perfect sense

April 11, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) – Cardinal Burke has issued his much-anticipated first response to Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation, Amoris Laetitia – and I think it’s fair to say that it isn’t what anybody expected. Certainly, it’s not the fire and brimstone teardown of the text that some of his devotees might have anticipated, or hoped for. In fact, the first two paragraphs are even being interpreted by some as a stinging rebuke to the many conservative Catholic writers who have criticized the exhortation. They’re wrong (see below). But I can see how they might think that without carefully reading the whole of Cardinal Burke’s response. Indeed, if we have been told that we must “read the full text” before responding…Continue Reading

Cardinal Burke: Pope’s exhortation not magisterial, can’t change Church teaching

April 11, 2016 breaking Comments Off on Cardinal Burke: Pope’s exhortation not magisterial, can’t change Church teaching

April 11, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – Cardinal Raymond Burke has said that the Pope’s newly released post-synodal exhortation cannot change Church teaching and practice, emphasizing that the document is not magisterial. “The Church has historically been sensitive to the erroneous tendency to interpret every word of the pope as binding in conscience, which, of course, is absurd,” he wrote in an article published by the National Catholic Register today. “Pope Francis makes clear, from the beginning, that the post-synodal apostolic exhortation is not an act of the magisterium.” Burke adds that the Church takes care that “a personal reflection of the Pope, while received with the respect owed to his person, is not confused with the binding faith owed to the…Continue Reading

Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation on The Joy of Love

April 8, 2016 breaking Comments Off on Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation on The Joy of Love

Editor’s Note: The Wanderer will have complete coverage and commentary on this document in the week ahead. The following is a brief summary of the document on the Vatican’s web site. (Vatican Radio) The Vatican on Friday published Pope Francis’ eagerly-awaited Apostolic Exhoratation on the family, drawing together almost three years of consultations with Catholics in countries around the world. The lengthy document, entitled ‘Amoris Laetitia’, or The Joy of Love, affirms the Church’s teaching that stable families are the building blocks of a healthy society and a place where children learn to love, respect and interact with others. At the same time the text warns against idealizing the many challenges facing family life, urging Catholics to care for, rather than…Continue Reading
