CRS Thinks So . . . Are Lawyers And Lobbyists “Forgotten Suffering Populations”?

March 28, 2020 Frontpage Comments Off on CRS Thinks So . . . Are Lawyers And Lobbyists “Forgotten Suffering Populations”?

By CHRISTOPHER MANION On March 17, in the midst of the Wuhan Coronavirus crisis, the USCCB’s Executive Committee took time out to issue a statement defending Catholic Relief Services. “In the name of our Catholic faith, the donors, staff, and volunteers of Catholic Relief Services (CRS) deliver life-saving food, medicine, shelter, and training to the most vulnerable of our sisters and brothers around the world,” they wrote. “CRS stands in firm defense of life. Criticisms to the contrary should not detract from the powerful impact your donations have on the lives of otherwise forgotten suffering populations. . . . We firmly stand with the personnel of Catholic Relief Services in their solidarity to the least among us.” Three days later…Continue Reading

The Fight For Moral Conscience

By PAUL KRAUSE (Editor’s Note: Paul Krause has written several articles that have appeared in The Wanderer. He is a senior contributor to The Imaginative Conservative.) + + + Sen. Chuck Schumer’s recent blatant and explicit threats to two sitting Supreme Court justices were met with a faux revision — not even an apology. Politicians are proclaiming the coming war on women. Celebrities are claiming that we are living through The Handmaid’s Tale. And the resurgence of Never Trump “conservatives” becoming the mouthpieces of moral nihilism over Trump’s prospective battle with Joe Biden reveal the moral vacuity of American liberalism and the self-claimed conservatives who have joined in on the idolatry of disordered liberty. In Mr. Sammler’s Planet, Saul Bellow’s…Continue Reading

As Coronavirus Spreads Death… Bad Catholic Pelosi’s Dems Want More Death With Abort Funding

By DEXTER DUGGAN As the RMS Titanic sank amid icebergs in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912, the ship’s captain ran along the slanting decks, trying to push more helpless passengers into the frigid waves. That didn’t actually happen. Such an event makes no more sense than U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and her Democratic allies trying to cause more deaths as the coronavirus sprang up in the U.S. However, Pelosi’s skullduggery actually did happen. No matter what occurs in the legislative halls of Washington, D.C., the officially abortion-obsessed Democratic Party is always trying to get more permissive abortion injected in to classic political sausage-making. Meanwhile, President Trump and Republican leaders said they would have none of the…Continue Reading

A Potpourri… The Temptation In The Desert, Death, And Other Matters

March 25, 2020 Frontpage Comments Off on A Potpourri… The Temptation In The Desert, Death, And Other Matters

By GEORGE A. KENDALL There is one central event in the life of Christ which I have often thought should have a place among the mysteries of the rosary, but which has been omitted — the temptation of Jesus in the desert. My way of including it has been to link it with the First Luminous Mystery — the Baptism of Jesus. They, of course, belong together. After the Baptism, Jesus comes up out of the water, and the voice of the Father is heard proclaiming that “this is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” With that proclamation, we have the definitive beginning of Jesus’ mission for the salvation of the world. And then what follows is…Continue Reading

The Power To Forgive Sins

By JOE SIXPACK It was a dramatic event. It was Easter Sunday night, and the apostles were hiding in the upper room where Jesus had given them the Holy Eucharist just a few days earlier. They were hiding for fear of being arrested and murdered as Jesus had been. Suddenly, Jesus stood in their midst. He said, “Peace be with you.” After saying this, He showed them the wounds in His hands and His side. “Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’ And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive…Continue Reading

BVM Statue… An That Idol Should Be Smashed?

March 23, 2020 Frontpage Comments Off on BVM Statue… An That Idol Should Be Smashed?

By DEACON MIKE MANNO, JD Is an 18-inch figurine of the Virgin Mary an idol that should be smashed? That’s the claim of a New Jersey condominium association board that has declared that the statue is forbidden and must be removed from a homeowner’s porch. That’s what Mary Jeanne Vassallo was told by the Barrister Farms Condominium Association. The statue belonged to Mary Jeanne’s deceased son, which had been given to him when he was in the second grade. It came from a local parish church that was under renovation while he was a student at the school. The dispute started in 2015 when the association notified her that the Virgin Mary must be removed or the homeowner would be…Continue Reading

As Surprise Virus Works Its Will . . . Americans Wonder How Much They Will Undergo

By DEXTER DUGGAN You need no greater indication of the depth of the coronavirus crisis than the fact that authorities began ordering the closure of pubs and bars just before St. Patrick’s Day. Any worried official was stout indeed who was prepared to face the wrath of boisterous Irish-Americans deprived of their annual green-bedecked barroom gatherings to celebrate their saint while quaffing brews and brewing up historical resentment of the Sassenach (English people, to you). Speaking of brewing, a coven of Democratic Party witches, after a busy day of doing abortions, probably couldn’t have stirred together a more powerful potion against their indomitable foe Donald Trump than the COVID-19 emergency. Trump-hating left-wing globalist George Soros must be hitting himself in…Continue Reading

Democrats Suffer From The Real Chinese Virus

March 21, 2020 Frontpage Comments Off on Democrats Suffer From The Real Chinese Virus

By CHRISTOPHER MANION Let’s face it. America’s Democrat Left wants abortion and will do anything to get it. China’s got abortion — and so much more! Socialism, all-powerful government, “social credit scores,” fines, jail — vivisection or even “vaporizing” of political opponents . . . what’s not to like for the average American leftist? But how to get there? Simple: The road to American socialism leads through abortion. Take Joe Biden. It’s hard to know if Joe believes anything anymore. It’s pretty clear that his ambition hasn’t decayed as much as his memory, but that’s not saying much. In his debate with Bernie Sanders Sunday night, March 15, Mumbling Joe couldn’t mention the word “abortion” (he called it “health care”),…Continue Reading

Good Shepherds In The Face of Danger, Natural And Otherwise

By JAMES MONTI It was little less than a year ago that the beauty of a sunny spring day in Paris during Holy Week was turned into frightening darkness when the great cathedral of Notre Dame burst into flames. The event had an apocalyptic feel to it, and coming just a day after Palm Sunday, one could not help but think that there was in this catastrophe a word of warning to a world that had turned its back not only on divine worship but on the most elemental commandments of God. Nearly a year later, this past weekend the weather here in the New York area was bright and beautiful. Yet there is fear in the air, fear of…Continue Reading

THE SILENCE OF JOSEPH

March 19, 2020 Frontpage Comments Off on THE SILENCE OF JOSEPH

By Deacon Keith Fournier The Silence of Joseph echoes in a world of noise turning a cacophony of self-love into a melody of self-surrender. The Silence of Joseph is a seed which bears the fruit of holiness and courage. The Silence of Joseph drowns the din of sorrow and silences the wailing of the weak. The Silence of Joseph draws the world to a cave in Bethlehem where God is born as man and man is born again. The Silence of Joseph draws us to our knees in worship of the Word made flesh in whose presence all words of men lose their meaning. The Silence of Joseph directs a symphony of silence which stills the universe in adoration of…Continue Reading
