Cardinal Sarah Vs. The Western Elites

October 17, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Cardinal Sarah Vs. The Western Elites

By SHAUN KENNEY Robert Cardinal Sarah is one of those bright lights in the Catholic firmament, especially for those of us whose consciences are fraught somewhere between faithfulness to Rome, fidelity to the Magisterium, and deep-rooted concerns about the direction of the Amazonian Synod. For those of you who have not had the chance to read Sarah’s The Day Is Now Far Spent, I cannot encourage you more to read this book. The text is rather deep — it is a translation from French into English and written in the cerebral style of most French theological work — but it has more than a treasure trove of gems. Specifically, I want to quote two paragraphs at length and then fast…Continue Reading

Saint For Today… Cardinal Newman Long Ago Warned Of Spirit Of Liberal Religion That Ends Religion

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Traditional religious believers in the U.S. may have been shocked over the last decade or so when government began openly telling them to violate their faith in major ways. In 2010 the Obama administration was altering traditional legal terminology away from “freedom of religion” to “freedom of worship.” People could believe as they pleased within their houses of worship, but step outside onto the sidewalk and here comes government requiring the death of conscience and the taxpayers’ funding of, for instance, permissive abortion and contraception. I noted this in a front-page article I wrote for the March 1, 2012, Wanderer about one of the debates for that year’s national campaign headlined, “Arizona Presidential Debate Reveals…Continue Reading

Not Right To Eat Babies?… Don’t Worry, Dems Are Eating Themselves Alive Instead

By DEXTER DUGGAN Democratic Cong. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the audience at her New York town hall didn’t react with outrage when a young woman stood up to say that the climate crisis is so severe, people need to start eating babies because there already are too many polluting people. The unidentified woman at the early October event cited a Swedish professor saying people should eat the dead, but she said that wasn’t enough to deal with the crisis as she repeatedly urged infant cannibalism. Ocasio-Cortez never responded to rebuke the stranger for suggesting cannibalism, but just said the crisis isn’t quite that severe. Writer Miranda Devine commented at the New York Post on October 6 that “AOC’s initial response was…Continue Reading

A Faustian Bargain Revisited

By DEACON MIKE MANNO, JD It is gratifying to see that the legal system is still able to recognize the differences between right and wrong and will actually move to correct situations where those differences were blurred. The Michigan attorney general and the University of Iowa are cases in point. Back in April, I wrote about the underhanded actions of Michigan’s anti-Catholic Attorney General Dana Nessel and how she manipulated the legal system to exclude a Catholic adoption agency from state contracts, which would force it to close. The long and short of the matter is as follows: St. Vincent Catholic Charities partnered with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to recruit and support foster and adoptive families.…Continue Reading

The New York Times Rewrites History — As Usual

October 13, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on The New York Times Rewrites History — As Usual

By CHRISTOPHER MANION This past August 14, The New York Times launched its “1619 Project.” That was when the United States was really founded, trumpeted the Times — when the first African slaves arrived in Virginia. The “Project” is designed both to perpetuate the left’s attack on our constitutional republic and to hijack the expansive narrative of American history and replace it with the tiresome flat-world Marxist myth of class warfare. A wave of the usual media suspects picked up the theme, breathing new life into racism as both a campaign issue and a fundamental template for future “reporting.” It is curious that the launch occurred only one day after a tumultuous meeting of the editorial staff of the Times,…Continue Reading

In The Prayer Of The Church, Latin Matters

October 12, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on In The Prayer Of The Church, Latin Matters

By SHAUN KENNEY Deep down, one really wants to tell folks not to worry about what is going on outside of your parish. After all, what does it really matter who sits in the Curia or who-runs-what at the Vatican Bank? Let the Amazon have its synod; let the Germans follow suit. Who cares so long as we still have the Eucharist, right? Of course, there is tremendous comfort in the idea that the storm outside isn’t exactly lashing our parish boat too hard. After all, while the politics of the Vatican are “fun” to watch in one sense, the flip side of the argument is rather easily repeated: Focus on your parish, volunteer at the soup kitchen, make rosaries,…Continue Reading

Lay Resistance Intensifies . . . Assaults On The Deposit Of Faith Increase

October 11, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Lay Resistance Intensifies . . . Assaults On The Deposit Of Faith Increase

By JOSEPH MATT This past week at the opening of the Amazon Synod, LifeSiteNews cosponsored with Voice of the Family a panel of some of the leading Catholic media spokespeople to discuss the current crisis in the Church. It wasn’t as though there was anything new that was said — something that hasn’t been covered by the endless petitions, open letters, and public pleas to the Vatican for answers and clarification for the many concerns with which this pontificate has plagued the faithful. The immediate benefit of this roundtable was the perception that yes, there are issues that divide us, but there is an issue larger that matters more than what divides us — one that threatens the core of…Continue Reading

How Did The Far Left Get Such Clout?. . . “We Let It Happen,” Gorka Tells Audience

October 10, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on How Did The Far Left Get Such Clout?. . . “We Let It Happen,” Gorka Tells Audience

By DEXTER DUGGAN SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Four conservative national commentators looked at how the U.S. has changed under pressure from extreme leftists, and what to expect for the 2020 presidential campaign, as they spoke at “The War for America’s Soul” forum sponsored by Phoenix talk-radio station KKNT (960 AM). The Virginia T. Piper Theater at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts was full as the four gave their perspectives that lasted just over two hours on the evening of September 26. The center’s website says the theater has a capacity of 853 people. They cheered and applauded comments by pundits Michelle Malkin, Sebastian Gorka, Larry Elder, and Mike Gallagher. Gallagher acted as moderator, to pose questions to the others.…Continue Reading

The True Saints Among Us

October 9, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on The True Saints Among Us

By REY FLORES As some of us reach middle age, we are now faced with a challenge of having to care for our elderly parents. While some of our parents are just getting older, some of us are dealing with aging and sick parents. With age comes the deterioration of health and our parents who once took care of us need us to take care of them. Our elderly parents can become like children as they get older. Be it an official diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or diabetes, whatever: These are mental, physical, and physiological conditions which can bring a human person to an almost or entirely helpless infant-like capacity. I cannot take any credit for taking care of…Continue Reading

“Heartbroken” Pelosi Fast-Tracks Impeachment

October 8, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on “Heartbroken” Pelosi Fast-Tracks Impeachment

By PATRICK J. BUCHANAN “This is a very sad time for our country. There is no joy in this,” said Nancy Pelosi on Saturday, September 28. “We must be somber. We must be prayerful. . . . I’m heartbroken about it.” Thus did the speaker profess her anguish — just four days after announcing that her Democratic House would conduct an impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump. But is this how it really went down? Is this how Pelosi came to authorize an impeachment inquiry before she read the transcript of the conversation between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky? Another explanation, based on the actual events, suggests itself. By late September, Pelosi was under constant fire from the House…Continue Reading
