All About Sex — Whatever That Is

June 10, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on All About Sex — Whatever That Is

By DEACON MIKE MANNO, JD Over the past few months, I’ve had occasion to write about several issues involving gender-confused individuals and those who wish to protect them from onerous discrimination by those who can’t quite comprehend the new biological reality of sex. In the April 25 issue, I wrote about a city, South Euclid, Ohio, attempting to challenge a Catholic prep school’s fidelity to Church teaching as sexual discrimination. Three weeks ago I wrote about a couple of cases headed to the Supreme Court that might answer the question plaguing society: Are the words “sex” and “gender” synonymous? As you recall, progressive secularists and their attorneys have been arguing that the federal ban on sex discrimination also includes discrimination…Continue Reading

Thanks To Leftist Elitists . . . Accurate Words Have All The Brains Sucked Out Of Them

By DEXTER DUGGAN “Today’s high temperature in New York was 1,986 degrees,” the weather talker on TV says. You allow your chilled beverage of choice to slip down onto the living-room floor. What’s the use of getting upset, you wonder. Celsius? Fahrenheit? Neither one makes any sense here. On the wall behind the TV are dark spots from other beverages you’ve heaved on other evenings with the same skill that never allowed you to be pitcher on the pickup baseball team. If weather talker’s face were the catcher’s mitt, the mitt would have endured no scuff marks yet. “Five thousand people dropped dead of the climate-change heat today on Manhattan streets,” weather talker continues, “while the Statue of Liberty up…Continue Reading

Pride And Providence

June 8, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Pride And Providence

By CHRISTOPHER MANION On June 16, Rhode Island’s capital will host Providence Pride, “a celebration of love, respect and joy,” according to the city’s website. And apparently, Providence has every reason to be proud. National Geographic calls it one of the “World’s Best Destinations for LGBT Pride Celebrations.” GayCities.com honors it with its Gold Award as the “Gayest State Capital.” And it’s even great year-round. Why, “Senior Advice” says it’s one of the nation’s “Top 20 Cities for LGBT Retirement”! Providence Bishop Thomas J. Tobin isn’t celebrating. On June 1, he posted this pastoral note on his widely read Twitter account: “A reminder that Catholics should not support or attend LGBTQ ‘Pride Month’ events held in June. They promote a…Continue Reading

A Shepherd Stands Tall . . .

( Wanderer Publisher’s Note: Rhode Island’s Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas Tobin’s tweet sent out last weekend [story below] has caused a firestorm of adverse reaction especially on Twitter, mainly from the foul, vindictive, and hateful intolerant proponents of “tolerance” — supporters of the Gay Pride Parade in Rhode Island — but unfortunately some of our fellow Catholics in the media piled on for their “pound of flesh.” (Some focused on the fainthearted semi-apology the bishop later posted on the diocesan website, implying it effectively extinguishes his message. Yes, it probably added more confusion to the matter and frustrated both sides, but nevertheless the good bishop did not retract what he said and re-emphasized Church teaching. Given the deafening silence from…Continue Reading

Your Field Report From Israel

By SHAUN KENNEY Greetings from the Holy Land! Or more accurately, from Ramat Gan just outside of Tel Aviv, where I have spent the better part of the week touring the Jewish State. This will have been my fourth trip to this part of the world, and unlike my previous three trips where it was indeed a tour of the Holy Land, this trip was more of a tour of Israel proper. Thus with an admixture of tourist and pilgrim, I will give you my boots-on-the-ground perspective on what is going on in Israel today. For starters, Netanyahu is one of the more curious politicians in the world — almost Churchillian to a degree. Most all Israelis I spoke with…Continue Reading

When The Twitter Mob Came After Me

June 6, 2019 Frontpage 12 Comments

By FR. KEVIN M. CUSICK Twitter has a dark, demonic side, raging against God and the Church. That brood of vipers and braying, bloodthirsty hounds lurking in readiness was visited upon me with nearly unrelenting fury and incredible magnitude last week. Wave after wave of calumnious, blasphemous, and obscene memes, gifs, and messages were posted with comments, likes, and retweets ranging up to the tens of thousands. Those who styled themselves my enemies crowed with pleasure that I had been “ratioed” — when negative comments outnumber likes and retweets. Many called for me to delete my account when they weren’t wishing a more horrible fate upon me. Blue check mark accounts with nearly 200k followers piled on. The vituperation descended…Continue Reading

One Man’s Journey From Darkness Into Life

By REY FLORES Part 2 This week we continue with Kurt Filla’s journey from darkness into life. . . . “Over and over and over it filled my head like a broken record. “I looked up at the clock and it was around 1:10 in the afternoon. My life would never be the same. I don’t remember any more words that were spoken but do recall that the tears kept coming for a long time. Maybe we sat in silence as I piled the table with tissues. Eventually I would make it back to my dorm room, the words of Scripture still in my head and heart. I remember that as I walked back it did not feel as if…Continue Reading

Abortion For Rape? Phoenix Mother Of Pregnant 11-Year-Old Says The Baby Not To Blame

June 5, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Abortion For Rape? Phoenix Mother Of Pregnant 11-Year-Old Says The Baby Not To Blame

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — After Ohio’s “heartbeat” bill was signed into law in April, some news outlets carried stories that it would forbid abortions for pregnant rape victims. For instance, The Hill.com headlined on May 14, “Pregnant 11-year-old rape victim in Ohio would be unable to receive abortion under new law.” The New York Daily News on May 14 quoted Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, a pro-life Republican, as saying at the signing ceremony: “The essential function of the government is to protect the most vulnerable among us, those who don’t have a voice. Government’s role should be to protect life from the beginning to the end.” Pushing pro-abortionists’ emphasis, the Daily News’ headline was, “Ohio ‘heartbeat’ abortion law would…Continue Reading

Is The Liberal Hour Ending In The West?

By PATRICK J. BUCHANAN Hillary Clinton called them “the deplorables.” Barack Obama called them losers who “cling” to their Bibles, bigotries and guns. To President Jean-Claude Juncker of the European Commission, they are “these populist, nationalists, stupid nationalists…in love with their own countries.” Well, “stupid” they may be, and, yes, they do love their countries, but last week they gave Juncker a thrashing, as they shook up the West and the world. Elections in the world’s largest electoral blocs — the 28-nation EU, and an India of 1.3 billion people — showed that the tide of nationalism continues to rise and spread across Europe and Asia. In India, the Hindu Nationalist BJP party of Prime Minister Narendra Modi won a…Continue Reading

The Fabric Of Truth And Conscience Rights

June 3, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on The Fabric Of Truth And Conscience Rights

By DEACON MIKE MANNO, JD I think all of us have some constants in our life — beliefs or facts that we rely on to help light our way. But it’s not just in our personal lives that we find such truths: businessmen, professionals, and tradesmen also hold certain propositions to be so firmly based in reality that they are directed by them without giving them a second thought. In law, for example, there are certain propositions: such as the burden of proof is on the moving party, or motorists have the right to presume that other drivers will obey the rules of the road. Architects, physicians, and accountants all have the same type of universal principles that, the assumption…Continue Reading
