Interview With Cardinal Burke… Be Transformed And Put On The Mind Of Christ

January 17, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Interview With Cardinal Burke… Be Transformed And Put On The Mind Of Christ

By DON FIER Part 2 (Editor’s Note: His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke, Patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, recently paid a visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, Wis. His Eminence graciously allotted time in his demanding schedule to grant The Wanderer an extensive interview and provided many illuminating insights. Among the topics he addressed is the troubling situation in which the Church finds herself and how the faithful can best respond. Part one of this important interview appeared in last week’s Wanderer.) + + + Q. High-placed members of the hierarchy, including Pope Francis, seem to attribute the underlying cause of the clerical sexual abuse crisis to “clericalism.” It seems as if…Continue Reading

Ethics Attorney Says . . . Important To Use Correct Words For Life-And-Death Situations

January 17, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Ethics Attorney Says . . . Important To Use Correct Words For Life-And-Death Situations

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX – A prominent pro-life attorney told members of a Catholic medical group here that he learned not to be surprised if a majority of people in an audience at a Catholic parish raises their hands when he asks who favors “assisted suicide.” They don’t actually favor such direct killing, attorney Nikolas T. Nikas told a lunch meeting of the Catholic Medical Association of Phoenix, but they don’t understand the lexicon. What they actually don’t want is “to endure disproportionate or extraordinary means” of life support, he said. Nikas, president and general counsel of the internationally active Bioethics Defense Fund (bdfund.org), said he has spoken at Catholic parishes all over the United States as part of BDF’s…Continue Reading

Protection From Reality In Border Fight . . . Media, Political Leftists Deploy Their Anti-Facts Shields

January 16, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Protection From Reality In Border Fight . . . Media, Political Leftists Deploy Their Anti-Facts Shields

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Amid the controversy over borders and barriers and whether they’re useful, there was indisputable evidence that impenetrable protection is provided to the leftist mindset by its bubble or cocoon or whatever you call its glistening fortress that can’t be breached by facts and evidence. On January 2, Phoenix conservative radio host James T. Harris (KFYI, 550 AM) played an audio clip of MSNBC’s Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski urging Democrats to stand strong against President Trump’s “stupid wall that nobody wants.” A few days later, after Trump announced on January 7 that he’d soon address the nation on the southern border crisis, the liberal Easterner Brzezinski urged the networks to deny airtime to the president.…Continue Reading

An Answer To A Sedevacantist Wannabe

January 15, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on An Answer To A Sedevacantist Wannabe

By FR. JOHN T. ZUHLSDORF (Editor’s Note: Someone who is “seriously considering adopting some form of sedevacantism” wrote recently to Fr. John T. Zuhlsdorf, and Fr. Z posted his reply on his January 7 blog. The question and answer are reprinted here with permission.) + + + Quaeritur: Father, I’ll get straight to the point: I’m having difficulty believing that the Pope is the head of the Church. I know that regarding the past heresies Popes were often negligent in carrying out their duty to oppose error, but it seems that recently Rome has been actively spreading error. This is most obvious under Francis, of course, although it’s not a new phenomenon — Vatican II and the liturgical reforms, which…Continue Reading

Democrat Anti-Catholicism… Where Are Our Catholic Leaders?

January 14, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Democrat Anti-Catholicism… Where Are Our Catholic Leaders?

By MIKE MANNO I remember as a boy I was watching a football game on TV and my dad said to me that Senator Kennedy was at the game. Who, I asked, was Senator Kennedy. My dad told me he was a young senator from Massachusetts who was going to run for president. Interesting information, but then he added this: “He’s Catholic.” And, of course, because he was Catholic, a lot of folks didn’t want him to win. That began my interest in politics, John F. Kennedy, and the Democratic Party. Even as an 11-year-old, I followed the Kennedy campaign through the primaries and watched the 1960 Democratic convention on TV, celebrating the Kennedy win. The day after the convention,…Continue Reading

Beyond The Headlines

January 13, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Beyond The Headlines

By CHRISTOPHER MANION In considering the new Democrat House, we recall that the proper title for its members is “Representative.” So it’s fair to ask, just whom are they “representing”? On inspection, the new majority’s vulgarity, their defiance of law and norms, and their dead-end socialist proposals are more representative of the views of their core political and financial supporters than those of their constituents. It is a classic example of the notion of “factions” that James Madison discusses in Federalist #10. The party’s hardened core comprises the activists and agitators that create the chaos which the Democrats need to survive. These include the elites who donate to their campaigns, who get rich from their initiatives, who get face-time and…Continue Reading

Convert, Lay Theologian, Novelist . . . Wanderer Contributor Philip Trower Dies At Age 95

January 12, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Convert, Lay Theologian, Novelist . . . Wanderer Contributor Philip Trower Dies At Age 95

By PEGGY MOEN Philip Trower, convert to Catholicism, lay theologian, novelist, and The Wanderer’s beloved friend and contributor, died on January 9. He was 95. Trower was born in London on May 16, 1923. We unearthed the oldest letter we have from him on file, dated April 25, 1977. It followed our acceptance of his first article for us, part of a three-part book he was then just completing. “I should perhaps explain why I have written it all,” said Philip about his book. He gave us two reasons: “I have written it partly as an act of faith; partly to fulfill a half-promise.” The first “act of faith” reason forecast the books he did ultimately publish, including The Church…Continue Reading

“Shout Your Abortion” Video Is Appalling But Expected

January 11, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on “Shout Your Abortion” Video Is Appalling But Expected

By REY FLORES #ShoutYourAbortion is a social media campaign where people share their abortion experiences online without “sadness, shame or regret” for the purpose of “destigmatization, normalization, and putting an end to shame.” This is how abortion activists Amelia Bonow and Emily Nokes describe their latest campaign to try and normalize the grisly practice which killed 42 million unborn babies worldwide in 2018 alone. Both women have been promoting abortion for many years now after having had their own abortions themselves. The viral online video was released on December 28, the Feast of the Holy Innocents, no less. Something tells me that the release of this video on this feast day was no accident, but a sick and deliberate jab…Continue Reading

Sociology And The Sexes

January 10, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Sociology And The Sexes

By DONALD DeMARCO Auguste Comte (1798-1857) is the “Father of Sociology.” In fact, he coined the term. His influence in his field is considerable though not necessarily beneficial to the populace to which he applied what he called “social physics.” No doubt the oddest feature of his thought, however, concerns the sexes which he believed to be utterly inimical to each other. Comte’s penchant for separating things that should be unified is the outline of his life and legacy. His Catholic parents wanted him to grow up as a Catholic. They named him Isidore Auguste Marie Francois Xavier Comte. This litany of saints is a clear indication that they wanted their son to be placed under reliable spiritual protection. Unfortunately,…Continue Reading
