From Prince To Pauper

October 9, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on From Prince To Pauper

By JOE SIXPACK Once upon a time (I love stories that start that way), a great king wanted to honor an old childhood friend. He gave his friend a large estate and a princely title. By his royal decree, the king made it so his friend and all his descendants would enjoy the princely title, estate, and wealth in perpetuity. Imagine suddenly being created a prince! But rather than being forever grateful, the new prince and his wife became proud. They tried to establish their own kingdom and rebel against the king. They failed in their rebellion, but the king mercifully spared their lives. However, the king took back all he’d given them and they became mere subjects again. When the children…Continue Reading

Judge Upholds Colorado’s Limits On Religious Gatherings

October 8, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on Judge Upholds Colorado’s Limits On Religious Gatherings

DENVER (CNA) — A federal judge on September 29 denied an injunction sought by a Protestant ministry against Colorado’s coronavirus health orders, which limit religious gatherings to 175 persons.Christine Arguello, a judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, wrote September 29 that “numerous courts have considered, and persuasively rejected,” arguments similar to those made by the plaintiff, Andrew Wommack Ministries, and that the suit was thus unlikely to succeed.“Plaintiff seeks to enjoin public health laws in order to allow it to gather a large group of people during a pandemic. Granting such an injunction would present a high risk of harm to the state of Colorado as well as the public generally,” Arguello concluded. She added: “The…Continue Reading

The Age Of Dogmatic Skepticism

October 7, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on The Age Of Dogmatic Skepticism

By JOHN YOUNG We are said to be living in a period of intellectual freedom, where we have thrown off the shackles of the past. Yet we are constantly told what to think, and penalized if we think differently. The intelligentsia boast of having open minds, yet refuse to consider views opposed to their own.The sciences are seen as the highest form of knowledge, yet are not allowed to interfere with current dogmas, as when biology confirms the commonsense fact that men and women are different.Capital punishment, even for the most horrendous crimes, is condemned as a barbaric relic of a cruel and ignorant past, yet the killing of preborn babies is proclaimed as an indisputable right. There is outrage against…Continue Reading

The Month Of October . . . Dedicated To The Rosary, St. Dominic, Fatima

October 6, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on The Month Of October . . . Dedicated To The Rosary, St. Dominic, Fatima

By DONAL ANTHONY FOLEY October is the month traditionally dedicated to the Holy Rosary, a devout practice, which according to tradition, originated at the time of St. Dominic (1170-1221). Like many traditional beliefs, this position has come in for criticism, but it does seem to be well-founded once we look at the history of the saint. And it is such a constant and firm tradition in the Church, and one supported by such great authority, that to question it is really to be unreasonable.Rather as is the case with the early life of our Lady, the early history of the rosary devotion is shrouded in mystery; but the historical evidence we do have indicates that it arose as a result…Continue Reading

Biden Team Welcomes Christian Bashers

October 5, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on Biden Team Welcomes Christian Bashers

By BILL DONOHUE (Catholic League President Bill Donohue discusses the Biden Campaign’s Christian bashers in a commentary dated October 1.) + + Humanists for Biden is a newly formed organization, an off-shoot of Secular Democrats of America, an entity that itself is of recent vintage. The pro-Biden group is headed by Greg Epstein, a humanist “chaplain” who splits his time between Harvard and MIT.The quotation marks are intentional: Merriam-Webster defines chaplain as “a clergyman in charge of a chapel.” Epstein is a confessed atheist, and a chapel is a place of worship. Therefore, there is no basis in reality for his self-identity. Not only is Epstein delusional, those who access his services as a chaplain are equally delusional. But then…Continue Reading

How To Be A Pilgrim . . . Without Leaving Your House

October 4, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on How To Be A Pilgrim . . . Without Leaving Your House

By DONALD DeMARCO Because of the COVID-19 virus many people are confined to their homes. They will not be taking pilgrimages to holy places. Nonetheless, there is a way in which they can make a pilgrimage without traveling or even vacating their domicile.I am thinking of a spiritual pilgrimage of reparation in which we can appreciate holy things that have been downgraded or defiled. The commercialization of the holy is one form that cries out for reparation.A current TV commercial for Nike is accompanied by a chorus singing the Lacrimosa from Mozart’s Requiem. The circumstances surrounding the creation of this music are profound and deeply moving. In fact, I would venture to say, they belongs to the realm of the…Continue Reading

Will Justice Amy Star In “The Five”?

October 3, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on Will Justice Amy Star In “The Five”?

By PATRICK J. BUCHANAN By nominating Federal Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, Donald Trump kept his word, and more than that.Should she be confirmed, he will have made history.Even his enemies would have to concede that Trump triumphed where his Republican predecessors — even Ronald Reagan, who filled three court vacancies — fell short. Trump’s achievement — victory in the Supreme Court wars that have lasted for half a century — is a triumph that will affect the nation and the law for years, perhaps decades.Trump’s remaking of the Supreme Court for constitutionalism may well be the crown jewel of his presidency.Consider. If Judge Barrett becomes Justice Barrett, she will join Justices Clarence Thomas, Sam Alito, Neil…Continue Reading

Letting Go Of Wrath And Anger

October 2, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on Letting Go Of Wrath And Anger

By FR. MICHAEL P. ORSI A Scripture passage read recently at Mass offers a rebuke to the spirit of our time:“Wrath and anger are hateful things, yet the sinner hugs them tight.” (Sirach 27:30)Can you imagine anyone of prominenAce today calling out the wrath and anger on display in our streets as hateful — or, God forbid, the work of sinners?Yet there it is for all to see in the violent antics of Black Lives Matters, Anitfa, a whole raft of groups and individuals acting on their worst human instincts. They wrap themselves in the mantle of “social justice,” but really they’re indulging in nothing more than the impulse for simple revenge. In our society, which has strayed so far from…Continue Reading

Dangerous Dan And The Debacle In Victoria

October 1, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on Dangerous Dan And The Debacle In Victoria

By JOHN YOUNG I live in Victoria, Australia, a state which has been in the news recently for the wrong reasons. There was the disgraceful criminal conviction of an innocent man, George Cardinal Pell, a conviction unanimously overturned by the High Court of Australia. There is the ongoing Lawyer X affair, involving the corruption of the legal system, with high-ranking police officers involved. And now the harsh lockdown restrictions are making world headlines.Much of this is due to the Australian Labor Party and its Victorian leader, Premier Daniel Andrews. Back in 2008, when Andrews was Minister for Health, he voted, with most of his party, for one of the most brutal abortion laws in the world, allowing abortion on demand up…Continue Reading

When The Church Abandons The Abandoned Spouse

September 30, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on When The Church Abandons The Abandoned Spouse

By REY FLORES Divorce seems to be a cancer running rampant amongst Catholics nowadays. I bet each one of you reading this knows of at least one Catholic couple who has been divorced, is an adult child of divorce, or maybe you yourself have been through a divorce. It seems that the holy Sacrament of Marriage, much like other aspects and traditions of the Church today, isn’t as holy as it once was. Perhaps I’m saying that wrong. It isn’t that these sacraments and traditions are no longer holy — the problem is that our lukewarm, tepid clergy are no longer teaching us and leading us to revere and hold these things as absolutely sacred.Bai MacFarlane, who heads Mary’s Advocates, defending…Continue Reading
