Is Virginia’s Blackface Governor On The Ropes?

June 27, 2020 Frontpage Comments Off on Is Virginia’s Blackface Governor On The Ropes?

By CHRISTOPHER MANION In February 2019, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam was in trouble. In an interview with a popular Washington radio station, he had endorsed infanticide for children born after a failed abortion (we bear in mind that Northam was physician specializing in pediatric medicine before his election). If that wasn’t bad enough, the same week it was discovered that Northam and a pal had posed for a picture in their med school yearbook — one in blackface, the other in full Ku Klux Klan regalia. At an informal gathering of conservative leaders the day the news broke, all but one thought that Northam would resign. He was a goner.Well, they were wrong. For good reason. In Virginia, the next in line…Continue Reading

The Return Of Public Mass: A Light In The Darkness

June 26, 2020 Frontpage Comments Off on The Return Of Public Mass: A Light In The Darkness

By JAMES MONTI 2020 has not been a year of glad tidings. The pandemic of COVID-19 is now giving way to a pandemic of violence in our nation. Yet amid all this darkness, there is one cause for rejoicing — the return of the public celebration of Mass. It is a gradual restoration that began in some places in mid-May, yet as of this writing there are still many places suffering under this Eucharistic privation. In the suburban New York county where I live, the permission to attend Sunday Mass and receive Holy Communion has been restored on the very feast that celebrates this sacrament, Corpus Christi. Even amid new and growing troubles, one could not help but feel what…Continue Reading

Where To Turn For Truth . . . When Highly Ideological Newsrooms Can’t Be Relied Upon?

By DEXTER DUGGAN Before GPS, there were “maps,” those stiff, folded pieces of paper in the car’s glove compartment — did some drivers call it the map compartment instead? — that showed motorists how to get around. What if the map showed that Indianapolis was ten miles west of Phoenix, or Salt Lake City north of Quebec City? That the ocean on the east was the Pacific, and the ocean beyond California was the Atlantic? What use would the map have been? Or, for that matter, the GPS if it was no more reliable these days?People looked to newspapers — and, later, also electronic reporting — for guidance of another sort in their daily lives. What were the facts they reliably…Continue Reading

Beacon Of Light… What Is Art?

June 23, 2020 Frontpage Comments Off on Beacon Of Light… What Is Art?

By FR. RICHARD D. BRETON JR. What is Art? Art is used to inspire us. Every artist begins with a vision and a blank canvas. An artist may begin with a marble block or a mound of clay. Whatever material it is, the beginning may look like nothing special, but soon, there emerges something beautiful. The ordinary is transformed into a masterpiece. For centuries artists have tried to inspire the human mind. One artist comes to mind. Who is this special person? It is Michelangelo. Michelangelo is known for many masterpieces, but none can compare to the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Have you ever visited the Sistine Chapel? As one gazes up at the ceiling, they see the Creation…Continue Reading

Bishop Strickland . . . Recovering And Serving The REAL Common Good

June 22, 2020 Frontpage Comments Off on Bishop Strickland . . . Recovering And Serving The REAL Common Good

By MOST REV. JOSEPH STRICKLAND Part 2 The values, principles, and truths we proclaim are good for all men and women. They are a part of our common human vocation and provide the glue for building a truly just social order. They require respect for the dignity of all human life from conception to natural death, protection and promotion of the first cell of society, marriage and the family and social order founded upon it, and respect for authentic human freedom, which includes the first freedom, religious freedom. They must be worked into the leaven of society so that we may share this bread with every man, woman, and child. This is how we serve the REAL common good. +…Continue Reading

Cultural Jihad Anyone?

June 22, 2020 Frontpage Comments Off on Cultural Jihad Anyone?

By DEACON MIKE MANNO, JD On the morning of November 7, 1938, a teenaged boy, Herschel Grynszpan, walked into the German embassy in Paris and asked to speak to an embassy official. He was ushered into the office of Ernst vom Rath, the embassy’s third secretary, whereupon Grynszpan shot the 29-year-old vom Rath five times, mortally wounding him. Vom Rath died two days later. The Grynszpans were Jewish and, as the story goes, the 17-year-old shot vom Rath because his parents, Sendel and Rivka Grynszpan, were deported from Germany to Poland as part of the Nazi regime’s effort to exclude Jews from German society. A later story indicated that there was a homosexual connection between the young Grynszpan and vom…Continue Reading

Once Again . . . Supreme Court Ignores Rules To Pull Surprise On Suffering Nation

June 21, 2020 Frontpage Comments Off on Once Again . . . Supreme Court Ignores Rules To Pull Surprise On Suffering Nation

By DEXTER DUGGAN While the U.S. Supreme Court went outside proper legal procedures to devise its mandate favoring sexual disorientation in Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia, there would be multiple impacts far beyond the High Court’s walls. The nation saw still more damage to its people and society from this contrivance announced on June 15 in the cause of advancing moral rebellion shielded by the black-robed bench, this time written by President Trump’s relatively recent nominee, Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch. The court’s impermissible legislating from the bench supposedly was done in the interest of clarity in 2020 in forbidding sex discrimination as prohibited by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Gorsuch majority indefensibly expanded the concept…Continue Reading

The Triumph Of The Constitutional Canard

June 20, 2020 Frontpage Comments Off on The Triumph Of The Constitutional Canard

By CHRISTOPHER MANION “This is a gross canard, cut out of whole cloth!” — Arthur Goldberg, U.S. ambassador to the UN and former justice, U.S. Supreme Court, June 6, 1967. + + + When Fr. Paul Scalia presided over the funeral Mass of Judge Robert Bork eight years ago, he made a cheerful observation. “Bob was a hopeful man,” he said. “Of course he wasn’t an optimist.” When it comes to the Supreme Court, the high hopes of many an optimist have been dashed on the rocks of sobering reality. It’s been going on for years. Dwight D. Eisenhower pointed to his nominations of Chief Justice Earl Warren and Justice William Brennan as the “two biggest mistakes” of his presidency.…Continue Reading

Gleefully Received By Media Foes . . . Gregory’s Attack On Trump Reflects Extent Of Social Disorder

June 19, 2020 Frontpage Comments Off on Gleefully Received By Media Foes . . . Gregory’s Attack On Trump Reflects Extent Of Social Disorder

By DEXTER DUGGAN Amid the riots, looting, arson, assaults, and other crimes committed across the United States supposedly in the interest of social and racial justice as May ended and continuing into June, the fierce June 2 statement by Washington, D.C., Archbishop Wilton Gregory against President Trump helped to illustrate how far the social disorder had spread. The national leadership of the pro-disorders Democratic Party has been able to continue its aggressive march farther left — now flirting with anarchy — because it generally received no pushback from its fans in dominant “news” media or the Catholic Church bureaucracies that formerly were regarded as representing the Catholic faithful. One example would be the indulgence granted by leading Catholic Church spokesmen…Continue Reading
