Q. In discussing the Arian heresy, which denied the divinity of Christ, a friend wondered why Christ, who is omniscient, would say that only the Father knows the end of the world. Please clarify this. — L.S., via e-mail. A. In Mark 13:32, Jesus said of the day that the world will end, “no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Of course, Jesus as God knew when the end would come, but He was not sent by the Father to make this information known. In the words of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (n. 474): “By its union to the divine wisdom in the person of the Word incarnate, Christ enjoyed…Continue Reading

The Hour Of The Covenant

March 15, 2018 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on The Hour Of The Covenant

By FR. ROBERT ALTIER Sunday Sermon for March 18, 2018 Fifth Sunday Of Lent (YR B) Readings: Jer. 31:31-34 Hebrews 5:7-9 John 12:20-33 The first reading today is one of the most important in all of the Old Testament because it plainly declares that God is going to make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. Then the Lord clarifies the point further by stating this covenant will not be like the one He made with the Israelites when they came out of Egypt. The New Covenant, rather than written on stone, will consist of God’s Law written upon the hearts of the people. God had already made several covenants with humanity beginning with…Continue Reading

Cardinal Mueller… The Magisterium Is Not Supposed To Lead Faithful “Into Confusion”

March 14, 2018 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on Cardinal Mueller… The Magisterium Is Not Supposed To Lead Faithful “Into Confusion”

(LifeSiteNews) — Formulating pastoral practices based on “individual cases” is a “rhetorical trick” that undermines the unity of the faith, said Gerhard Cardinal Mueller in an interview published the past week in German and translated into English by LifeSiteNews. “That is why papal and episcopal statements on the reception of the Sacraments have to be prepared in such a clear manner that they serve the salvation of the people. Christ did not institute the Magisterium in order to initiate processes which lead into confusion,” he said. Cardinal Mueller made the comments to Die Tagespost. He was reacting primarily to the German bishops’ decision to open Communion to the Protestant spouses of Catholics in some cases. LifeSiteNews reported only excerpts from…Continue Reading

A Leaven In The World… Pelagian And Gnostic: Amoris Laetitia Gets Placuit Deo Fail

March 12, 2018 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on A Leaven In The World… Pelagian And Gnostic: Amoris Laetitia Gets Placuit Deo Fail

By FR. KEVIN M. CUSICK The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith’s letter Placuit Deo to the Church’s bishops on “Certain Aspects of Christian Salvation” contradicts those elements of Amoris Laetitia that have been interpreted to allow reception of Communion by the divorced and civilly remarried. Many of our readers are already familiar with the time bombs planted in the latter document by means of its nefarious Chapter 8 and a smoking gun footnote which have already been exploited by several bishops’ conferences for the purpose of admitting adulterers to the sacrament. The issue is far from settled and has become a simmering controversy in the Church with respected theologians and opposing bishops calling for no change in practice.…Continue Reading

The Sacraments Instituted By Christ… Who Can Receive The Blessed Eucharist?

March 11, 2018 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on The Sacraments Instituted By Christ… Who Can Receive The Blessed Eucharist?

By RAYMOND DE SOUZA, KM Part 19 Since the Blessed Eucharist is so immensely rich in graces and blessings, who can receive it? In the Latin Rite, to which most Catholics in the West belong, any baptized Roman Apostolic Catholic, who has reached the age of reason (usually from seven years old onward) and can distinguish the Body of Christ from ordinary food, can receive the sacrament. In the Eastern Churches, Holy Communion is given to infants after Baptism. It is beautiful to see the priest dropping a tiny drop of the Precious Blood on a baby’s lips — they always welcome it. Leaving aside the heresies that afflict the Western world these days, we can ask this simple question:…Continue Reading

The Christian Family As The Domestic Church

March 10, 2018 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on The Christian Family As The Domestic Church

By DON FIER The Church teaches that fertility “is a gift, an end of marriage” (Catechism of the Catholic Church [CCC], n. 2366). However, as we saw last week, we live in an age in which many see children as a burden rather than a blessing, fertility as a disease rather than a gift. It has aptly been described by Pope St. John Paul II as an age with “the appearance of a truly contraceptive mentality” (Familiaris Consortio [FC], n. 6 § 1). As a sign of contradiction, the Magisterium has unwaveringly and steadfastly maintained that “each and every marital act must of necessity retain its intrinsic relationship to the procreation of human life” (Humanae Vitae [HV], n. 11). As…Continue Reading

Q. In St. Matthew’s account of the Ascension of Jesus into Heaven, he says that when the disciples saw Jesus and worshiped Him, some of them “doubted” (Matt. 28:17). I thought only Thomas doubted that Jesus had risen, but that he was convinced otherwise at the second appearance of our Lord on the Sunday after Easter. So what is Matthew talking about? — P.H., New Jersey. A. Although all of the disciples saw Jesus after His Resurrection, perhaps the faith of some of them was not as strong as you might think. We know that ten of them saw Jesus on Easter and eleven of them on the following Sunday, but only seven were present at the Sea of Tiberias…Continue Reading

Granpa’s Grief

March 8, 2018 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on Granpa’s Grief

By JEFF KOLOZE This is not how it’s supposed to be. Granpa should be crying for joy at your birth, not convulsed with grief at your death. This is not how it’s supposed to be. Granpa should be staring at you wrapped in a soft, warm blanket, not staring, void of thoughts, at a blanket of snow covering a frozen yard. This is not how it’s supposed to be. Granpa should be changing your diapers, not always aware that I will never see you again here on earth. Love for Margaret testifies to love for God which trumps anger against God. Those stupid people who are angry at God. Why? What did God, the author of life, do to destroy…Continue Reading

Cardinal Sarah… Widespread Communion In The Hand Is Part Of Satan’s Attack On The Eucharist

March 7, 2018 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on Cardinal Sarah… Widespread Communion In The Hand Is Part Of Satan’s Attack On The Eucharist

By DIANE MONTAGNA ROME (LifeSiteNews) — The head of the Vatican department overseeing liturgy is summoning the Catholic faithful to return to receiving Holy Communion on the tongue and kneeling. In the preface to a new book on the subject, Robert Cardinal Sarah, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, writes: “The most insidious diabolical attack consists in trying to extinguish faith in the Eucharist, by sowing errors and fostering an unsuitable way of receiving it. Truly the war between Michael and his Angels on one side, and Lucifer on the other, continues in the hearts of the faithful.” “Satan’s target is the Sacrifice of the Mass and the Real Presence of Jesus in the consecrated Host.” The new book,…Continue Reading

A Leaven In The World . . . Fr. Weinandy Warns About “Disintegration” of Church

March 5, 2018 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on A Leaven In The World . . . Fr. Weinandy Warns About “Disintegration” of Church

By FR. KEVIN M. CUSICK Fr. Thomas Weinandy is no wacko. That is why the U.S. bishops at one time appointed him to advise them on matters theological. The bishops are famous for avoiding controversy but, now, in our present upside-down reality, controversy has found them. Weinandy has never been considered extreme or unbalanced. Until now. In the “Amoris Laetitia World” black is white and white is black. And, as Antonio Spadaro (in)famously said, “2+2=5.” Down the rabbit hole we go. As you may remember, Weinandy stepped down from that USCCB role shortly after speaking out for the first time in an open letter last year in protest at the “chronic” doctrinal confusion caused by the Pope and his advisers.…Continue Reading
