Pope: At Christmas Jesus Knocks At The Doors Of Your Heart

December 21, 2014 breaking, Uncategorized Comments Off on Pope: At Christmas Jesus Knocks At The Doors Of Your Heart

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Sunday invited the faithful to listen carefully when God knocks at their door. “Too often – he said – Jesus passes by in our lives, he sends an angel and we are so caught up in our thoughts and concerns we do not even notice”. Speaking to the pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the Angelus Prayer, the Pope reflected on the liturgy of the last Sunday of Advent that tells of the  Annunciation of the Archangel Gabriel to Mary and on how she simply, and humbly – with an attitude of total faith in the Lord – said “yes”. She said “I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to…Continue Reading

Pope’s Morning Homily: Pray for Those Suffering Great Tragedy

October 1, 2014 Uncategorized Comments Off on Pope’s Morning Homily: Pray for Those Suffering Great Tragedy

Cautions Against Overdramatizing Complaints In moments of darkness, our lament becomes a prayer, but we must guard ourselves against overdramatizing our complaints and remember that there are people experiencing “great tragedies” who have good reason to lament, like the Christians driven from their homes for the faith, said Pope Francis Tuesday during Mass at Casa Santa Marta. Reflecting on the First Reading of the day, in which Job curses the day he was born, the Pope noted that his prayer at first appears to us like a curse. Pope Francis recalled how Job was “put to the test”, how he “lost his entire family, everything he possessed”, how he lost his health and “his body had become a plague, a…Continue Reading

Pope Francis: Weekly General Audience

April 16, 2014 Pope Francis, Uncategorized Comments Off on Pope Francis: Weekly General Audience

2014-04-16 Vatican Radio (Vatican Radio) Pope Francis held his weekly General Audience on Wednesday – the Wednesday of Holy Week or “Spy Wednesday” as it is called in many parts of the English-speaking world. The Gospel reading of the day recounts Judas’ betrayal of Jesus, which sets in motion the events of Christ’s Passion, Death and Resurrection. In his catechetical remarks to pilgrims and tourists gathered in St. Peter’s Square under a brilliant blue April sky, with a crisp spring breeze blowing through the city, Pope Francis spoke of Christ’s free embrace of suffering and death, which he took on for our sake. It was a theme to which he returned in the English-language remarks that were read out following…Continue Reading

Resisting The New Blacklist

April 5, 2014 Uncategorized, World News Comments Off on Resisting The New Blacklist

April 4, 2014 By Rebecca Hamilton There’s a new blacklist. Its members are anyone who dares to oppose gay marriage, or gay behavior of any sort. The punishment, even for icons of the tech industry, is to have their careers deep-sixed; all in the name of “inclusiveness” and “tolerance.” We have reached the point that these very fine words, inclusiveness and tolerance, have become the tools of a new totalitarianism that strikes at freedom of expression, freedom of political action and freedom of religion for every American. This blacklist is the opposite of freedom. It is absolute intolerance. It is the apogee of exclusiveness. It is bigoted, biased, hate-filled, discriminatory and totalitarian. It is the ghost of Jim Crow, the…Continue Reading

Thoughts On Son Of God Movie

March 10, 2014 Frontpage, Uncategorized Comments Off on Thoughts On Son Of God Movie

By PEGGY MOEN          I saw the Son of God movie on March 9, after its opening weekend with a second-place box office rank.       Its strongest point is its portrayal of the intrigue and politics leading up to the Passion. The cowardice of Caiaphas in the face of Pilate’s threats and brutality, and then Pilate’s fear of Caesar, are well scripted and well acted. Judas delivers the immortal line “What’s in it for me?” when Caiaphas approaches him to betray Jesus.       Also strong is the movie’s beginning and ending with a monologue by St. John the Evangelist, setting forth salvation history through the Word at the beginning, and the martyrdom of all the apostles except John…Continue Reading

Thursday, 13 Feb 2014 01:51 PM By Jennifer Hickey The Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans is taking a stand against a new Planned Parenthood clinic, pledging not do business with any individual or business participating in the construction or opening of the facility. “The archdiocese, including its churches, schools, apartments for the elderly, and nursing homes,” will not “enter into business relationships with any person or organization that participates in actions that are essential to making this abortion facility a reality,” Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond wrote in a Feb. 1 open letter published in the Catholic newspaper The Clarion-Herald. “This policy applies to all businesses regardless of religious affiliation or non-affiliation,” Archbishop Aymond wrote, further stating that “affiliation or support…Continue Reading

Catholic Flash Mobs Fill Pews, Lift Prayers At NY Churches

BUFFALO, N.Y. –  You’ve heard of flash mobs? Behold the Mass mob. Playing off the idea of using social media to summon crowds for parties or mischief, mobs of Buffalo-area Roman Catholics have been filling pews and lifting spirits at some of the city’s original, now often sparsely attended, churches. It works this way: On a given Sunday, participants attend Mass en masse at a church they’ve picked in an online vote and promoted through Facebook and Twitter. Visitors experience the architecture,

CWN – November 25, 2013 A German bishop has said that the country’s episcopal conference will move forward with plans to allow Communion for divorced and remarried Catholics, despite clear disapproval from the Vatican. Bishop Gebhard Fürst of Stuttgart told a lay group, the Central Committee of German Catholics, that the German bishops have already drafted new guidelines for the reception of Communion by divorced/remarried Catholics, and hope to vote their approval to those new rules in March 2014. Bishop Fürst said that the German hierarchy is responding to demands from the faithful. “Expectations are great, and impatience and anger are greater still,” he said. Archbishop Gerhard Ludwig Müller, the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith,…Continue Reading

BY DUSTIN SIGGINS Fri Nov 22, 2013 16:03 EST CHAMPAIGN, IL, November 22, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Critics are saying, while the latest round of grants from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development seem to be an improvement, problems persist. Most recently, the University of Illinois’ YMCA chapter has lost $60,000 in funding from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) over its partnership with a pro-gay “marriage” organization. Michael Hichborn of ALL. The YMCA chapter, which has received $41,000 from the local Catholic church and CCHD in two years, also formally aligned with and received money from the Illinois Coalition for Immigrants and Refugee Rights. The Coalition is a statewide organization that works with illegal immigrants. However, because the organization…Continue Reading
