Cardinal Raymond Burke, head of the Vatican’s highest court – the Apostolic Signatura – has given a lengthy televised interview in which he decisively rectifies the false notions about Pope Francis’ “Who am I to judge” quote that has been used frequently to suggest a change in Church teaching on the matter of homosexuality. Host Thomas McKenna of Catholic Action Insight questioned Cardinal Burke about instances where people must make judgments in light of Pope Francis’ “Who am I to judge” phrase.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City has finally thrown in the towel and agreed to let gay Irish groups march. The announcement was made yesterday. September 4, 2014 World News Comments Off on Gays to march in NYC Parade, with Cardinal Dolan as 2015 Grand Marshal

A gay group of employees from NBC will march in next year’s New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade behind their own banner, a source with knowledge of the ongoing parade controversy has told the Irish Voice. On Wednesday, September 3, at a reception at the New York Athletic Club, Cardinal Timothy Dolan will be named as the grand marshal of the 254th St. Patrick’s Day parade, set to step off on Tuesday, March 17. In a historic move aimed at defusing the storm that erupted this year over the exclusion of gay banners in the march, the addition of a banner identifying gay NBC staffers is a compromise forged at the insistence of several New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee members, including…Continue Reading

Planned Parenthood promoting ‘prayer vigil’ for abortion-on-demand at Ohio capitol

September 2, 2014 World News Comments Off on Planned Parenthood promoting ‘prayer vigil’ for abortion-on-demand at Ohio capitol

To mark the end of a “week of action” by liberal activists in Ohio, Planned Parenthood is asking its supporters to participate in a prayer vigil and rally on the steps of the state capitol Thursday afternoon. “Ohio faith leaders will culminate a week of prayer on issues that affect all Ohioans on Thursday,” the abortion group wrote on their invitation to the event. “Join Planned Parenthood supporters and faith leaders from across Ohio at a Statehouse prayer rally.” The “week of action” was spurred on by the Rev. William Barber, a self-described “progressive” preacher from North Carolina who uses his faith to justify support for abortion-on-demand, ObamaCare, same-sex “marriage” and other liberal causes via his “Moral Mondays” campaign – a lobbying…Continue Reading

Pope: When we become worldly, we lose Christian flavor

September 1, 2014 World News Comments Off on Pope: When we become worldly, we lose Christian flavor

Vatican City, Aug 31, 2014 / 09:39 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Christians must avoid the temptation to conform to the world, Pope Francis cautioned Aug. 31, stressing that they should instead allow their faith to transform the world around them. “Christians live in the world, fully integrated into the social and cultural reality of our time, and rightly so,” the Pope said in his reflection at the Sunday Angelus. However, “this carries with it the risk that we might become ‘worldly’, that ‘the salt might lose its flavor’,” as the Gospel of Matthew warns. Pope Francis spoke to those gathered in the Vatican’s St. Peter’s Square at noon. As he does each week, the Holy Father offered a reflection on the…Continue Reading

The former president of Ireland Mary McAleese will deliver the Rosemary Goldie Lecture at Sydney Town Hall on Sunday week but local Catholics, it seems, are being discouraged from attending. The Catholic Weekly newspaper refused to take advertisements for the lecture which honours an Australian Catholic theologian who became the first woman to serve in an executive role in the Roman Curia. Professor McAleese had criticised the former Catholic Archbishop of Sydney Cardinal George Pell for his “boy’s club” appointme

AsiaNews is launching a fundraiser to support Christians targeted by the Islamic State, thus responding to a request by the Patriarch of Baghdad and Pope Francis’s urgent appeal “to guarantee all necessary assistance – especially the most urgently needed aid – to the great multitude of people who have been driven from their homes, whose fate depends entirely on the solidarity of others.” More than 100,000 people have been forced to flee their homes leaving everything behind and now have nothing to live on. To help them, five euros a day are enough. The funds raised will be sent to the Patriarchate of Baghdad, which will distribute them according to the needs of each family.

Federal Judge Blocks Texas Law That Would Stop Abortions at Most Facilities Across State

August 30, 2014 World News Comments Off on Federal Judge Blocks Texas Law That Would Stop Abortions at Most Facilities Across State

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A federal judge Friday threw out new Texas abortion restrictions that would have effectively closed more than a dozen clinics in the state. U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel sided with clinics that sued over one of the most disputed measures of a sweeping anti-abortion bill signed by Republican Gov. Rick Perry in 2013. The ruling stops new restrictions that would have left seven abortion facilities in Texas by Sept. 1. There are currently 19 abortion providers in the state, according to groups challenging the law.

Tax-funded PBS To Air ‘After Tiller’ Documentary Glorifying Late-term Abortionists

August 30, 2014 World News Comments Off on Tax-funded PBS To Air ‘After Tiller’ Documentary Glorifying Late-term Abortionists

Pro-life activists are up in arms after the taxpayer-funded Public Broadcasting System (PBS) announced it will air the pro-abortion documentary “After Tiller” – named for George Tiller, the notorious late-term abortionist who boasted of killing more than 60,000 unborn babies before he was gunned down in 2009. The controversial film, set to air on Labor Day, follows four remaining abortionists who are among just a handful who admit publicly to performing abortions after 24 weeks – the generally accepted age of viability in the United States. The filmmakers interviewed LeRoy Carhart, Warren Hern, Shelley Sella, and Susan Robinson for the documentary, examining their motivations and attempting to humanize them for audiences who might be inclined to think of them as monsters. Gov. Jerry Brown’s administration has ordered abortion coverage in health insurance plans for two Catholic universities. “California Catholics are no longer safe to practice their faith within their own institutions. Luke’s group aims for the renewal of Catholic identity at the Los Angeles-based Loyola Marymount University, from which he graduated in 1993. He said that Gov.…Continue Reading
