The federal government reaches out to a California diocese to help shelter illegal immigrants in California. By Ryan Lovelace In order to avoid future clashes with the citizens of Murrieta, Calif., over attempts to transfer illegal immigrants there, the Obama administration has turned to an unusual bedfellow: the Catholic Church. Deacon Luis Sanchez of the Diocese of San Bernardino tells National Review Online that an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent approached the diocese on July 2, 2014, and “expressed his desire for the Church to help in helping these families reach their destination.” Since that time, he says, diocesan officials have spoken on the phone with ICE, and they held a planning meeting on Monday.

July 9, 2014 World News Comments Off on A New Low For Liberals: Attacking Catholic Nuns Over Hobby Lobby

I’m a big fan of absurdity in politics. But even absurdity has its limits, and the National Organization for Women has surpassed it in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision inBurwell v. Hobby Lobby. As part of its full-throated defense of ObamaCare’s contraception mandate, NOW has a list of what it calls “The Dirty 100” — entities that have sued the Department of Health and Human Services and demanded exemptions on the basis of their First Amendment right to religious expression and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties, the two firms that won the Hobby Lobby case last week, occupy two spots on the list, as does Wheaton College, which won a controversial injunction against HHS later…Continue Reading

By Martha Woodall, Inquirer Staff Writer POSTED: June 24, 2014   The fledgling Independence Mission Schools network of Catholic elementary schools is used to moving fast. It sprang into action two years ago to save 14 parish schools in low-income neighborhoods when the Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced plans to close them. New Irish Guidelines Allow Abortion Up To Birth: Pro-life Group

July 6, 2014 World News Comments Off on New Irish Guidelines Allow Abortion Up To Birth: Pro-life Group

DUBLIN — New guidelines on abortion set to be issued by Ireland’s Department of Health seem to be silent on the reality of what Fine Gael’s abortion legislation meant for mothers and babies, says the pro-life Life Institute. The Irish Times reported Thursday that the guidelines laid out when an abortion could be carried out in response to a threat of suicide. As expected, the abortion law will allow a baby’s life to be ended if doctors certify that a woman is suicidal and that risk “can only be averted by the termination of her pregnancy.” As also expected, no term limits were contained in the guidelines, leaving open the possibility of abortion until birth, despite the Constitutional provision that doctors have due regard…Continue Reading

Ben Johnson Mon Jun 30, 2014 – 10:01 am ESTUpdated on June 20 at 1:34 p.m. EST.WASHINGTON, D.C. – This morning the U.S. Supreme Court decided closely held corporations with religious objections cannot be compelled to furnish potentially abortion-inducing drugs to their employees by a 5-4 decision. The Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 (RFRA) allows for closely-held corporations like Hobby Lobby to maintain their religious outlook and still do business, the majority ruled in a 49-page opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito.
