May 23, 2014 World News Comments Off on Priests In Libya Say Catholics Are Living In Fear

By JONATHAN LUXMOORE CNS on Friday, 23 May 2014 Catholics in Libya are “living in fear” as conflict escalates between Islamist militias and followers of a rebel general, priests in Tripoli and Benghazi have said. “People have been warned not to leave home because of possible attacks, so far fewer are attending church now,” said Franciscan Fr Allan Arcebuche, vicar general of Tripoli’s apostolic vicariate. “The Catholic Church doesn’t encourage a visible security presence by the police or military at its Masses, since this could provoke militant groups. But we’re having to be cautious at our services and in our movements,” he told the American Catholic News Service. New parliamentary elections were announced for June 25 in a bid to avoid civil…Continue Reading

Her husband has dual citizenship and lives in New Hampshire and is fighting to save his wife’s life. She is in prison 8 months pregnant, along with her 18 month old baby boy. As soon as she has this baby she is sentenced to 100 lashes and hanging. My hope is that since her husband is an American, something can be done.

May 20, 2014 World News Comments Off on Catholics In Public Life Must Adhere To Catholic Teachings, Says Prendegast

By  Deborah Gyapong, Canadian Catholic News May 20, 2014 OTTAWA – Catholics in public life must take positions coherent with the Catholic faith, says Ottawa Archbishop Terrence Prendergast, and that includes not only what they believe but how they vote. If Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is setting limits as to who can belong to his party, the Catholic Church also sets limits on who belongs to the Church, Prendergast said. The Catholic Church “expects adherence” to her teachings, because she believes they are “the teachings of Christ,” he said. “The teachings of Christ are not just for me; they are for the good of everyone.” “Respect for life of the innocent child in the womb and also of the person…Continue Reading

Doyle of the Catholic Action League said.

May 15, 2014 World News Comments Off on Catholic Colleges Leader Rejects Ex Corde Ecclesiae as ‘Checklist,’ Defends Pro-Abortion Speakers

May 14, 2014, at 2:23 PM  |  By CNS Staff  | The president of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU) has claimed that Pope Saint John Paul II’s Ex corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution for Catholic colleges and universities, is not a “checklist” binding on college leaders and does not prevent pro-abortion speakers and events. ACCU President Michael Galligan-Stierle’s “checklist” comment resurrects arguments that the ACCU made in the 1990s against conforming with the letter of Ex corde Ecclesiae.  The false implication is that the document presents a personal vision for Catholic education which colleges may interpret in their own way, even when undermining the Church, but does not declare norms that are binding under the Church’s canon…Continue Reading
