Catholic sisters join the Women’s March on Washington

January 23, 2017 World News Comments Off on Catholic sisters join the Women’s March on Washington

Early this morning crowds of women donning pink hats and carrying protest signs with slogans like “I’m with her” and “Love trumps hate” gathered in groups around capitol hill in Washington, D.C., as well as in cities across the country, to prepare for the Women’s March on Washington and its sister marches. Over 500,000 men and women filed in to listen to women speak on a host of social justice issues, from immigration reform to environmental responsibility. While the exclusion of pro-life feminist groups from the march’s list of sponsors discouraged some Catholics from attending this event, several groups of women religious came to champion their respective social justice causes. St. Catherine University, a two-campus Catholic school in Minnesota, sent two busloads of students to the pro-abortion Women’s March-Minnesota on Saturday. ·  The University of St. Thomas, another Catholic university in MN, also bussed students to the March, but neither school provided comment on the explicitly pro-abortion stance insisted upon by March

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has sent his good wishes to United States President Donald Trump, who was inaugurated in a ceremony at the US Capitol Building on Friday. “At a time when our human family is beset by grave humanitarian crises demanding far-sighted and united political responses, I pray that your decisions will be guided by the rich spiritual and ethical values that have shaped the history of the American people and your nation’s commitment to the advancement of human dignity and freedom worldwide,” – the Message reads – “Under your leadership, may America’s stature continue to be measured above all by its concern for the poor, the outcast and those in need who, like Lazarus, stand before our door.”…Continue Reading

January 20, 2017 World News Comments Off on TRAD LIVES MATTER! US Bishop attacks “ad orientem” worship, overrides Summorum Pontificum

UPDATE: I’ll be a bit more restrictive with comments.  Some of you are… sheesh.  Think before even starting to write, please. ___ Originally Published on: Jan 19, 2017 @ 14:25 ___ I received a copy of a letter sent by the Bishop of Rockford, Most Rev. David J. Malloy, to the priests of that diocese. In this letter, a follow up to their diocesan “Presbytery Day” (where he spoke to them about “challenges”), the bishop writes: Following that talk, I write now to ask for your cooperation on several matters that have since been referred to me

January 20, 2017 World News Comments Off on Pope: Luther’s intention was to renew the Church, not divide her

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Thursday said that “the intention of Martin Luther five hundred years ago was to renew the Church, not divide her”. Speaking to members of an Ecumenical Delegation from Finland who are in the Vatican to take part in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the Pope recalled his visit to Sweden last October and said that the “gathering there gave us the courage and strength, in our Lord Jesus Christ, to look ahead to the ecumenical journey that we are called to walk together.” The Pope ended his speech with off-the-cuff remarks thanking the bishop leading the delegation for having brought his grandchildren to the audience and pointing out that  “we need the simplicity…Continue Reading

January 18, 2017 World News Comments Off on Priests for Life Banned From Orlando Diocese

All are welcome — except pro-life group ORLANDO (ChurchMilitant.com) – The bishop of Orlando is forbidding parishes from hosting speakers from Priests for Life or handing out their material. Priests for Life (PFL) was founded in 1991 with the canonical status as a Catholic association of the faithful. It is one of the most prominent pro-life

New York Times refuses to call the March for Life by its name. And pro-lifers are mad.

January 17, 2017 World News Comments Off on New York Times refuses to call the March for Life by its name. And pro-lifers are mad.

January 16, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) — Pro-life leaders are calling out The New York Times for its biased coverage of the March for Life after the newspaper steadfastly avoided identifying the event by its name in a recent article. In a story published Thursday about how Kellyanne Conway, an advisor to President-elect Donald Trump, will be one of the scheduled speaker’s at the pro-life event, The New York Times used “March for Life” only once, and not as a stand alone title but to refer to the title of the event’s

The Maltese Disaster

January 15, 2017 World News Comments Off on The Maltese Disaster

The bishops of Malta, in a document that can only be called disastrous, repeatedly invoking Pope Francis’ Amoris laetitia, have directly approved divorced and remarried Catholics taking holy Communion provided they feel “at peace with God”. Unlike, say, the Argentine document on Amoris which, one could argue, left just enough room for an orthodox reading, however widely it also left the doors open for abuse by others, the Maltese bishops in their document come straight out and say it: holy Communion is for any Catholic who feels “at peace with God” and the Church’s

Malta’s bishops allow civilly remarried divorcees to receive Communion

January 15, 2017 World News Comments Off on Malta’s bishops allow civilly remarried divorcees to receive Communion

Update: In a move taken as a sign of approval, the Vatican’s semi-official newspaper published the Maltese bishops’ guidelines Friday morning in its print and online versions. MALTA, January 13, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – The bishops of Malta have given the green light to divorced and civilly remarried Catholics in their dioceses to receive Communion if they are “at peace with God.” The bishops say it might be “humanly impossible” to follow Church teaching and live chastely while civilly remarried, a requirement for receiving the Eucharist in this situation. The affirmation comes from the Bishops’ new document “Criteria for the Application of Chapter VIII of Amoris Laetitia,” in which they say their guidelines are “in line with the directions given by…Continue Reading

Bishop Schneider Offers Hope Amidst Crisis Permitted by “Divine Providence”

January 14, 2017 World News Comments Off on Bishop Schneider Offers Hope Amidst Crisis Permitted by “Divine Providence”

As the ecclesiastical crisis continues to deepen in 2017, I have found myself facing a certain exhaustion; a feeling that, while knowing the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church, that Christ will have the final victory, there is no respite from the near-constant series of assaults from the enemies of God’s truth. I know that many of you feel the same way. While we here at OnePeterFive believe we have an obligation to continue to cover the news of what is happening within our beloved Church, however unpleasant, there is also need for reassurance, a rediscovery of the most
