The Vatican described the report on an Italian website as ‘seriously irresponsible’ Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, Vatican spokesman, said an Italian newspaper’s claims about the Pope’s health were “entirely unfounded.” After checking with the Pope himself and other sources, Father Lombardi told reporters “the pope enjoys good health” and that the unsubstantiated news report was “a serious act of irresponsibility, absolutely unjustifiable and unspeakable.” The Quotidiano Nazionale” reported on October 21 that an unnamed nurse at a clinic in Pisa told the pape

The following intervention was made by Dr. Anca-Maria Cernea,  President of the Association of Catholic Doctors of Bucharest (Romania), at the Ordinary Synod on the Family on Friday. Your Holiness, Synod Fathers, Brothers and Sisters, I represent the Association of Catholic Doctors from Bucharest. I am from the Romanian Greek Catholic Church. My father was a Christian political leader, who was imprisoned by the communists for 17 years. My parents were engaged to marry, but their wedding took place 17 years later. My mother waited all those years for my father, although she didn’t even know if he was still alive. They have been heroically faithful to God and to their engagement. Their example shows that God’s grace can overcome…Continue Reading

Devolving doctrinal and disciplinary authority to the Bishops’ conferences is a dangerous idea.

October 18, 2015 World News Comments Off on Devolving doctrinal and disciplinary authority to the Bishops’ conferences is a dangerous idea.

In a now famous speech made in the Vatican Basilica on the eve of his election to the papacy, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger deplored what he termed a “dictatorship of relativism”. He remarked: Today, having a clear faith based on the Creed of the Church is often labeled as fundamentalism. Whereas relativism, that is, letting oneself be “tossed here and there, carried about by every wind of doctrine”, seems the only attitude that can cope with modern times. We are building a dictatorship of relativism that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists solely of one’s own ego and desires. Fighting a “dictatorship of relativism” which affirms that moral or religious truth is not absolute, but relative to…Continue Reading

At synod, Cardinal Marx openly promotes Communion for divorced-and-remarried

October 18, 2015 World News Comments Off on At synod, Cardinal Marx openly promotes Communion for divorced-and-remarried

Vatican City, Oct 16, 2015 / 05:23 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- After years of both direct and indirect remarks on the subject, German Cardinal Reinhard Marx issued his most direct statement yet in favor of offering Communion to the divorced-and-remarried. In an Oct. 14 address to his fellow bishops from around the world, gathered at the Synod in Rome, he said that “we should seriously consider the possibility – based on each individual case and not in a generalizing way – to admit civilly divorced and remarried believers to the sacrament of Penance and Holy Communion.”

New York Cardinal Dolan sees light amid the synod’s confusion

October 15, 2015 World News Comments Off on New York Cardinal Dolan sees light amid the synod’s confusion

ROME — Much has been said in the past 10 days about divisions within the Oct. 4-25 Synod of Bishops on the family, with some charging that the synod has been rigged for a predetermined — and progressive — outcome, and that changes that Pope Francis introduced to the process will lead to disaster. New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan disagrees. “I think the process is extraordinarily candid,” Dolan said in an interview with Crux Thursday. “I think it is working, and this is from one who likes to complain!”

A New Jersey archbishop has released a memorandum to his priests stating, “Non-Catholics or any Catholic who publicly rejects Church teaching or discipline, either by public statements or by joining or supporting organizations which do so, are not to receive the sacraments.” The memorandum also says Newark diocesan and parish facilities should only be used by individuals and organizations not in opposition to Church teaching, and states, “Catholics, especially ministers and those who represent the Church, should not participate in or be present at public religious events or events intended to endorse or support those who reject or ignore Church teaching and Canon Law.”

October 14, 2015 World News Comments Off on Planned Parenthood says it will stop taking money for aborted baby parts

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 13, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) – Pressured by a series of undercover videos showing their highest officials in compromising situations, Planned Parenthood announced today that it will no longer accept money in exchange for transferring the body parts of aborted babies to medical researchers. “In order to completely debunk the disingenuous argument that our opponents have been using — and to reveal the true political purpose of these attacks — our Federation has decided, going forward, that any Planned Parenthood health center that is involved in donating tissue after an abortion for medical research will follow the model already in place at one of our two affiliates currently facilitating donations for fetal tissue research,” Planned Parenthood Federation of America…Continue Reading

Vatican revokes Catholic priest’s press credentials after he challenged archbishop

October 12, 2015 World News Comments Off on Vatican revokes Catholic priest’s press credentials after he challenged archbishop

ROME, October 12, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) – Amid continuing concern about the Vatican press office’s “manipulation” of the family synod’s message, a priest who has been covering Vatican news for over 15 years had his credentials revoked last week, and was told to leave the premises “immediately.” The revocation came after he had challenged an archbishop following the October 6 press conference over comments claiming that allowing Communion for the divorced and remarried is up for debate. Archbishop Paul-Andre Durocher made the comments in response to a reporter’s question about whether the matter pertained to Church discipline – which could potentially change – or doctrine, which is fixed. “To be quite honest, there might be differences of opinion on that,” Durocher said. “Let’s…Continue Reading

October 11, 2015 World News Comments Off on Condemned ‘Catholic’ group uses Vatican press access to challenge African bishop on homosexuality

Analysis ROME, October 8, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) — At the Vatican’s press briefing Thursday, the head of a U.S. group that aims to change Church teaching on homosexuality challenged an African bishop for perceived silence on the criminalization of “gay and lesbian people.” Francis DeBernardo, executive director of New Ways Ministry, was questioning Archbishop Charles Palmer-Buckle from the diocese of Accra in Ghana. DeBernardo identified himself as representing “Bondings,” which is the name of his blog. New Ways Ministry has been formally condemned by both the Vatican and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for opposing Church teaching, and is repeatedly banned from speaking in Catholic
