Along Phoenix’s Glendale Avenue… Baby Butcher Shop Amid Churches And Bustle Of Daily Life

By DEXTER DUGGAN

PHOENIX — The sign by the street lists tenants at the modest, one-story office building at 1526 W. Glendale Ave. here, among them “Children’s Dentistry” and also the quarters of DeShawn Taylor, MD. What sort of medical work Taylor does isn’t specified on the sign.
Taylor removes far more than little ones’ tooth problems at Suite 109. She’s an abortionist at Desert Star Family Planning (desertstarfp.com), exposed in a video released March 29 by the California-based Center for Medical Progress (CMP).
In it, Taylor jokes callously about strengthening her biceps in order to do late abortions. Asked by a CMP investigator about verifying signs of life in a possibly abortion-surviving baby, Taylor sidesteps the question and says “the key is, you need to pay attention to who’s in the room, right?”
In other words, rather than checking for signs including breathing, heartbeat, or umbilical-cord pulsation, Taylor’s wording warned to look around to see if anyone else there is likely to contact law enforcement about possible violation of Arizona law requiring assistance for abortion survivors.
What other people may see indeed was a topic on Taylor’s mind. She also said, “It’s not a matter of how I feel about it coming out intact, but I gotta worry about my staff and people’s feelings about it coming out looking like a baby.”
The video of Taylor’s casual attitude to late abortions is at the CMP website, centerformedicalprogress.org, as well as various other sites.
The Wanderer contacted the office of the Phoenix-based Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, headed by chief prosecutor Bill Montgomery, on March 31 and asked if the office plans “an inquiry into this apparent violation of Arizona laws?”
Spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto promptly replied by email: “Mr. Montgomery is aware of the video and is concerned about any information revealing the deliberate violation of Arizona law. As a general practice, MCAO do not confirm or deny our involvement in an investigation.”
This newspaper followed up by email to ask the spokeswoman, “If there was involvement, when might a decision on what to do be announced?” There was no reply to that question.
The Arizona Attorney General’s Office didn’t respond to two emails from The Wanderer, on March 31 and April 3, asking if it planned to conduct an inquiry. The chief state prosecutor’s office didn’t confirm or deny an investigation.
Although the horrifying video quickly was posted at sites around the nation, Arizona’s largest daily news platform, the pro-abortion Arizona Republic, brushed it off, mentioning it far down in a negative story posted March 29 about the Arizona legislature passing a bill to strengthen requirements for care of abortion-surviving babies.
Pro-abortion Republic reporter Alia Beard Rau quoted Taylor issuing a statement: “Anti-abortion groups like the Center for Medical Progress — who released this video — have a long history of using misinformation and intimidation to advance their agenda….The anti-abortion group and its agents are the ones who acted fraudulently, and abortion providers have not broken the law.”
Incredibly, the Republic writer claimed, “It’s unclear when or where it (the video) was shot.”
As the video of the Planned Parenthood outdoor networking event begins, with palm trees visible, Deborah Nucatola, MD, senior director of medical services for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, plainly introduces herself to the gathering by name and title.
She welcomes the people on behalf of the Planned Parenthood Federation and partners at the Society of Family Planning to the North American Forum on Family Planning and the George Tiller Memorial Networking Reception. Nucatola says she’s spending time introducing people to each other there, adding, “and that’s exactly why this meeting was created.”
Nucatola walks over and introduces the undercover CMP investigators, posing as tissue-procurement specialists, to Taylor.
Taylor tells investigator “Robert Sarkis” — actually CMP lead David Daleiden — that she has an abortion clinic in Arizona. Taylor says she used to work at Planned Parenthood in Los Angeles, then was medical director at Planned Parenthood Arizona.
At her Desert Star website, Taylor says she moved from Los Angeles to Arizona in 2009 “to work for a nonprofit statewide health-care organization as the medical director” — apparently referring to PP here — then “founded Desert Star Family Planning in 2013 with a vision to provide abortion care as a fully integrated part of women’s health and wellness care.”
Unlike reporter Rau, who goes out of her way to downplay the astounding video, The Wanderer can plainly acknowledge that Tiller, for whom the Planned Parenthood networking event was named, was a doctor specializing in late abortions who was murdered by an anti-abortion radical in May 2009. The gunman quickly was tried and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Taylor’s Desert Star website makes no pretense that abortion is only a minor part of its work. The site has two options side by side, “Request abortion” and “Book other service.” It says abortion is done by pill for up to 10 weeks, with surgical abortion up to 23 weeks and 6 days.
After viewing the video, Arizona Fifth District Republican Cong. Andy Biggs released a statement March 30 saying in part:
“Dr. Taylor’s barbaric boasting about her abhorrent trade and casual disregard for the gift of life shows yet again that leaders of the abortion industry view women and unborn babies as financial instruments for personal gain. This video proves there is even more to be done at the state and federal level to protect the lives of the unborn and the safety of their mothers, and it should give us a renewed sense of urgency to fight for Roe v. Wade’s demise.”
Abortionists like Taylor have much for which to thank the dominant media that cover up grisly details. Taylor offhandedly tells Daleiden that she uses “a disarticulation technique.” This means she dismembers babies. She adds that “another issue is Arizona is so conservative, I just don’t even want to send a full fetus to, for cremation or any of that, it is just —”
Sarkis interjects, “Absolutely, it’s asking for trouble.” Taylor replies, “Yeah.”
Given the level of protection that dominant media provide for massive, ghastly abortion, one can imagine that if they were tour guides in National Socialist Germany, they’d say those strange smokestacks were anti-pollution devices.
Blending abortion slaughterhouses into the daily landscape long has been a goal of Planned Parenthood and its media allies.
Less than a block to the east of Desert Star Family Planning on Glendale Avenue is the Faith Assembly of God church, with a banner proclaiming, “Join us for Easter.” A few blocks farther east is the Beth El Congregation, affiliated with Conservative Judaism, in an attractive decades-old building with a modernistic desert style.
At the corner of Seventh Avenue and Glendale is Church of the Beatitudes, where a memorial service was held back in 1976 for Arizona Republic reporter Don Bolles, assassinated with a bomb under his car. Bolles was known for investigating mobsters.
Farther to the east on Glendale, one may see Orthodox Jews, observantly afoot for the Sabbath, walking to worship.
Less than a block to the west of the abortuary on Glendale is the Beatitudes Campus retirement community, and the I-17 freeway a few blocks farther west, which leads northward into the mountains, toward Prescott, Sedona, Flagstaff, and the Grand Canyon. Says Wikipedia: “I-17 is one of the most scenic Interstate Highways as it gains more than a mile in altitude between Phoenix at 1,117 feet (340 m) and Flagstaff at 7,000 feet (2,100 m).”
Farther west on Glendale Avenue, one sees the University of Phoenix Stadium looming, home to the Arizona Cardinals professional football team and sometime site of other major events including the Super Bowl and the NCAA Final Four college basketball championship, which concluded with North Carolina’s victory over Gonzaga on April 3.
America’s baby slaughterhouses are ignored in the daily bustle, quite unlike what would happen if leftist media were to make the bug-eyed discovery that illegal immigrants were having their arms and legs pulled off next to a children’s dentist, or even unwanted dogs and cats were being executed this painful way. But, hey, if the illegal immigrant is only an unborn baby, hack away, these media say.
The day before the new CMP video was released, California’s new attorney general, left-wing Democrat and putative “Catholic” Xavier Becerra, charged Daleiden and CMP co-investigator Sandra Merritt with 15 felonies for CMP videos exposing abortion and baby-parts-harvesting businesses (see the April 6 hardcopy Wanderer, p. A8).
The Washington Examiner noted on March 31 that “that’s seven felony charges more than the state brought against the Manson Family (seven counts of murder, one count of conspiracy).”
The Manson Family was California cult leader Charles Manson and his followers, who went on a murder spree in 1969.
“Amazingly enough,” Examiner writer T. Becket Adams said, “the overall response to news that the state is bringing the full force of the law down on investigative methods that credentialed reporters from legacy media groups have relied on for decades inspired barely a sniff from the nation’s reporters.”
An editorial posted March 30 at the pro-abortion Los Angeles Times was a bit of an exception. Although squirming with discomfort at coming to the CMP’s defense, the official voice of the newspaper said that parties offended by Daleiden and Merritt can sue them. “The state doesn’t need to threaten the pair with prison time.”
It concluded that “Becerra’s attempt to take this to the level of a criminal felony is misplaced here.”
The Times editorial seemed to show at least more distaste for Becerra than demonstrated by Los Angeles Catholic Archbishop José Gomez, who attended a lavish March 30 dinner where both he and Becerra received awards from the Cesar Chavez Foundation, according to a story posted April 1 at California Catholic Daily.
The dinner was two days after Becerra blazed forth with his 15 felony charges against the pro-lifers, but no rebuke by the archbishop against the fraudulently “Catholic” Becerra supping with him was reported.
Similarly, a front-page story in the November 7, 2013, hardcopy Wanderer reported that Gomez had lent his prominent presence to a gathering of left-wing California Democrats, including so-called Catholic Gov. Jerry Brown, celebrating legalizing driver’s licenses for illegal aliens.
Just a few weeks earlier, Brown had signed radical legislation from these left-wing Democrats allowing non-physicians to perform abortions, and allowing abortions to be performed in facilities not equipped for surgery.
Although no justification could be imagined for Gomez rubbing shoulders with these radicals just after their major expansion of abortion, the archbishop’s name was listed first on Brown’s news release about public figures attending his signing of the driver-license measure.
A photo in Gomez’s own Tidings newspaper showed him at a lectern surrounded by the radicals, including Brown.

Unreleased Videotapes

Daleiden replied to Becerra’s 15 wild felony charges with a March 28 news release that said: “The bogus charges from Planned Parenthood’s political cronies are fake news. They tried the same collusion with corrupt officials in Houston, Texas, and failed: Both the charges and the (Harris County) DA were thrown out.
“The public knows the real criminals are Planned Parenthood and their business partners like StemExpress and DV Biologics — currently being prosecuted in California — who have harvested and sold aborted-baby body parts for profit for years in direct violation of state and federal law,” Daleiden said.
“We look forward to showing the entire world what is on our yet-unreleased videotapes of Planned Parenthood’s criminal baby body-parts enterprise, in vindication of the First Amendment rights of all,” he said.

An Egregious Injustice

Southern California pro-life activist Allyson Smith told The Wanderer on April 1: “I believe that this is one of the most egregious injustices that has ever been committed against pro-lifers. Instead of prosecuting Daleiden and Merritt for exposing Planned Parenthood’s crimes, Becerra should be prosecuting Planned Parenthood, StemExpress, and the rest of the baby parts-for-profit traders for their crimes!
“The U.S. bishops, particularly the California bishops, should loudly denounce this betrayal by Becerra and call him to conversion and repentance,” Smith said, likening the CMP investigators’ plight to the lamb led to slaughter in the April 1 reading from the Book of Jeremiah.
Becerra is attempting “to cut them off from the land of the living by putting them in prison for a very long time,” she said.
As for the Phoenix abortionist, Smith said: “Taylor’s euphemistic statement that her method for dismembering unborn babies is a ‘disarticulation technique’ shows just how badly seared and ‘disarticulated’ from truth, reality, and compassion her own conscience is.
“The fact that she admits she hits the gym to build up her biceps to more easily tear apart unborn babies is utterly shocking — but sadly unsurprising from a woman who herself was fortunate enough to be born, but who now makes her living destroying fellow human beings in the womb.”
And northern California commentator Barbara Simpson told The Wanderer on April 2 that she has “no sympathy for Planned Parenthood or its staff as they continue their legal vendetta against the CMP. . . . . Despite the comments by Becerra that it’s really a constitutional issue of ‘privacy’,” there’s also “a gag order on the tapes so that no one can see them, even law enforcement.
“What are they trying to hide? Could it be the comments by abortionist Dr. DeShawn Taylor commenting that she strengthens her biceps by pulling apart larger unborn babies? What a sense of humor that gal has,” Simpson said. “Or perhaps it’s a violation of Arizona law, which protects the lives of abortion survivors. . . .
“These people are despicable killers, and I look forward to the other tapes CMP has waiting in the wings,” she said.
