The Truth Held Hostage

August 25, 2017 Frontpage No Comments

By JOSEPH MATT

We are reaching a flashpoint or tipping point in this country when it comes to honest public debate or dialogue about any topic that involves politics, religion, or the moral direction of our country. As the influence of those unwilling or unable to address the truth in these matters reaches a majority, the survival of our republic comes into question. Every totalitarian tyrant, dictator, and despot has known that if you can control the media and dictate your own “truth,” you control the citizenry.
The truth today is being held hostage by the media elite, the provocateurs of thought control, the willing participants of its citizenry and the puppet masters of the progressive left who are all too eager to impose their Godless progressive agendas and silence those that oppose them at any cost, namely at the expense of the truth.
These demonizing tactics, of course, are nothing new but their forces have reached a fever pitch and one that continues to tear our country apart. The recent presidential victory of Trump snatched the victory away from the progressive bigots of the left who thought the election of their candidate was owed to them and now feel cheated by the very system they helped create. Now these people with the full backing and support of the mainstream media want him removed at all costs.
The progressives have always been extremely adept at courting and influencing the media, but seemed to accelerate their pace in the Clinton years when the press became complicit in the scandals then taking place, ignoring and even covering up for most of them. Obama used and manipulated the press to an even greater extreme, often using the race card to further his agenda. Now coming off the heels of an unexpected devastating loss, the mainstream media have become more rabid and emboldened than ever.
As a perfect example on how the left has ramped up its effective use of its media propaganda, witness the events that took place in Charlotte this past week in which the media successfully paralyzed President Trump in his attempt to bring calm to the situation.
If you listen to the statements made by President Trump regarding the situation in Charlotte, there was no misrepresentation of the truth. The media spun the whole situation with false innuendo and outright lies, portraying Trump as some sort of hatemongering racist. As a result of which the so-called titans of business who made up the president’s economic council turned tail and ran, cowering at the thought of taking on the media and afraid of defending the president. They all hid behind the phony cry of racism.
And of course the spineless members of the GOP fell silent in their defense of Trump, but almost tripped over each other to announce to the world that they were not racist.
The continuation of the hate-fed leftist response to the events in Charlotte last week resulted in countless outcries for the removal of statues or any other representative of “hate” to be removed from the public square.
Well, it is easy to conclude this will not stop with Charlotte or anything that can be remotely inferred as hate. What else other than Christianity will be the next targeted hate group for the left to attack? How long before the symbols of Christianity from crucifixes to statues will be the next targets of the progressive left as symbols of bigotry and hate?
The once little-known leftist propaganda arm called the Southern Poverty Law Center — arguably a “hate” organization itself — at one time could be easily ignored, but now you have major news outlets like CNN referencing the SPLC for information about organizations which they have deemed “hate” organizations. Thus, the media treat the SPLC as the final arbiter of who is a “hate group.” That is a problem especially when this organization has known ties to various left-wing organizations.
Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, responded August 21 to the recent “hate label” his group received from the Southern Poverty Law Center and he called for prayer and healing in a country divided.
Staver said: “As a pastor before becoming an attorney, my heart then and now is for hurting people. Liberty Counsel is a peaceful Christian ministry that opposes violence. We believe that each person is created in the image of God and each one should be treated with dignity and respect. Difference of opinion is no cause for violence or hatred.
“I have previously condemned the violence in Charlottesville perpetrated by KKK and white supremacist groups. We must not allow the seeds of the Holocaust or the violence against people of color to take root again in America.
“But instead of speaking with a united voice against violence and hatred, the Southern Poverty Law Center and some irresponsible media have falsely included some Christian, pro-family, or conservative groups with real hate groups like the KKK.
“This false labeling is defamatory and dangerous. Moreover, this false label is exploiting a serious situation to push a self-interested political agenda. This must stop! We need to come together to speak against hatred and violence. I urge everyone to pray for the healing of our nation.”
Another group that came to my attention, via local news, was none other than The Remnant newspaper, which is published by the first cousin once-removed of this writer. It is no secret to longtime Wanderer readers we have had our differences with The Remnant over the years; that paper’s origins are largely in the Lefebvrite movement, which began in the post-Vatican II era.
Nevertheless, our differences have never approached the level of considering each other a “hate organization.” Not only is this a grave injustice perpetrated by the SPLC, it is a harbinger of what is to come to organizations that promote traditional family values and defend basic Christian principles.
The more the mainstream media divorces itself from the truth, the closer we come to a police state. The days of Christians being able to freely express their beliefs and live their faith may be coming to an end. When one looks at the fast-paced decline of a society that now accepts and funds the killing of its future generations, that embraces same-sex marriage, and that redefines gender, it is no longer an argument whether the republic will survive but an argument as to how much longer will it survive.
Without a clarion call to the God who created us and a return to a society whose laws parallel natural law, I am afraid this is a battle that will be lost.

Now more than ever, vehicles like The Wanderer are needed for clarification and guidance on the issues of the day.

Catholic, conservative, orthodox, and loyal to the Magisterium have been this journal’s hallmarks for five generations. God willing, our message will continue well into this century and beyond.
