Politics A Loser’s Game . . . When Liberal Media Make Up The Rules Against Conservative Players

June 6, 2016 Frontpage No Comments

By DEXTER DUGGAN

PHOENIX — The names of sports teams from elementary school to professional play usually reflect admirable qualities, whether strength, bravery, heroism, resilience, resourcefulness, endurance, or something else positive.
Think along the lines of Spartans, Aztecs, Mustangs, Broncos, Trojans, Chiefs, Pirates, Titans, Patriots, Braves, or, ahem, Redskins. Teams don’t get named the Wet Newspapers or the Garbage Cans — although sometimes their poor performance could bring that sort of derision. Team names are to be proud of, not ashamed about.
However, the campus unrest of the early 1970s included a swipe at heroic team names at the relatively new Scottsdale Community College, just east of Phoenix. During a sports budgeting dispute back then, students voted to change the team name from Drovers to the Fighting Artichokes, an appellation intended to rouse laughter at a traditionally sacred sports practice.
The student rebels knew they were mocking this source of school pride and reversing the standard attitudes. (Artie the Artichoke came to be beloved, and remains the Scottsdale mascot today.)
But you might think, according to dominant media assertions, that football fans in the Washington, D.C., area, a liberal bastion, all are roaring racists because the pro team is the Washington Redskins. Year after year, big-media drums beat against the supposed bigotry of the Redskins name and allege the flaming necessity to change it.
Yet a Washington Post poll posted May 19 said that nine out of 10 Native Americans aren’t offended by the Redskins name — a result consistent with another poll taken more than a decade ago.
The puzzled Post said the Native Americans’ belief hadn’t moved despite the fact “opponents of the name have won a string of high-profile victories, garnering support from President Obama, 50 Democratic U.S. senators, dozens of sports broadcasters and columnists, several newspaper editorial boards (including the Post’s), a civil-rights organization that works closely with the National Football League, and tribal leaders throughout Indian Country.”
In other words, here was a case when the insular national liberal media’s rage against something they inexplicably hate hadn’t made a difference in their target audience’s attitudes, nor in reality.
Oh, if only the Redskins were the national Republican Party leadership. The trembling GOP would have changed its name to the Mousefaces Party or the Twiddly Toes or the Rotten Rutabagas long ago if only the hostile media always pounding them had demanded it.
These media routinely attribute racism as standard operating procedure to conservative Republicans.
That may be one reason disgusted voters love trash-talking presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, who’ll tolerate none of this media harassment.
It’s also a reminder of how unfair these media play, how generally biased toward the left they are, and why people should simply ignore contrived media slants.
If the Republicans — er, the Mousefaces — were a football team, they’d not only know but accept that the media — er, referees — always make them start carrying the ball from the opposite end of the field, and with 80-pound anchors strapped to their legs, while the Democrat players would automatically head for the goal from the 15-yard line, in chauffeured limousines.
Last year these media went on a rampage against the California-based Center for Medical Progress when the CMP exposed Planned Parenthood baby-harvesting barbarity, although the barbarity itself was fine with these tendentious journalists.
On May 30, the online California Catholic Daily posted that in the liberal Democrat-dominated California legislature, PP is supporting a bill to criminalize publicity about evidence of its business practices, including harvesting and selling aborted babies’ body parts.
Cal Catholic said the Life Legal Defense Foundation said legislative analysts “expressed concern that the bill would violate the First Amendment, which ‘gives the free press the protection it must have to fulfill its essential role in democracy.’ The U.S. Supreme Court has held that ‘prior restraints on speech and publication are the most serious and least tolerable infringement on First Amendment rights’.”
An earlier version of the bill drew opposition from the California Newspaper Publishers Association, the news item said, but when the bill was amended to target pro-life investigative activities, the CNPA withdrew its objections.
“Neither the ACLU nor any other civil-liberties or journalism organization has voiced opposition” to the bill, the news item added.
Jim Holman, publisher of Cal Catholic, told The Wanderer on May 31 that the CNPA “normally care(s) about First Amendment, but abortion trumps all other rights.”
Holman also is publisher of the alternative Southern California weekly San Diego Reader. He said he’s not a member of the CNPA, “but they have come to the Reader’s defense in the past.”
Another fresh instance of calculated major-media deception occurred when left-wing Yahoo anchor Katie Couric’s director intentionally switched footage in a gun-control documentary, making it look as though clueless gun defenders were left speechless when Couric asked them a question. Actually, they promptly answered.
On May 31 the generally conservative Washington Examiner said presidential candidate Trump had just “heaped criticism” on Couric’s documentary, saying it was par for the course in her reporting career.
The Examiner reported, “‘The Katie Couric piece is not that unusual,’ Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity.”
What might seem remarkable, though, is that in this social-media age, Couric and her director tried to get away with the deception, even though they must have realized that gun defenders they victimize have, at the least, alternative resources to utilize in honest response.
Meanwhile, a major story that national liberal media prefer to downplay is the continuing assault against U.S. safety by criminal border invaders. Media eyes gleam with dreams of Democrat voter dominance if only enough unauthorized aliens can be imported. Indeed, that has been the political result of massive immigration into California.

Multiple Shootouts

Shortly before Memorial Day, Pinal County, Ariz., Sheriff Paul Babeu, a Republican, again had to warn the public against dangers of Latino cartel violence, including assassins, in his county, just southeast of Phoenix’s Maricopa County.
On May 24 the Phoenix area’s KTAR news radio reported that Babeu “said people who choose to celebrate Memorial Day in Pinal County’s western deserts should be armed in the instance they come across smugglers or sicarios (assassins).”
The report added that Babeu’s office “said it has received reports of multiple shootouts between rival gangs south of its jurisdiction. It also said it arrested 21 cartel scouts and numerous smugglers last year.”
On May 31, WCQS Public Radio in North Carolina posted that unauthorized immigration is swelling on the southern border again this year. The report quoted Brandon Judd, the border agents’ union president, about orders to simply turn the aliens loose into the U.S.:
“What happens is, if you are arrested in the United States and you ask for any sort of asylum, what we do is we will process you, and we will walk you right out our front door, give you a pat on the back and say, ‘Welcome to the United States.’ And they’re good to go.”
The story also quoted a Catholic Charities director in Texas about outfitting the new arrivals: “It’s like 50, 60, 100, 200 backpacks that we need every day; 200, or 50 or 80 deodorants or shoes. Can you imagine coming up with 50, 60, 80 pairs of shoes every day? It’s amazing.”
Meanwhile, Mexican flags are displayed prominently at rowdy Latino protests in the U.S. against Trump. It used to be that rallies for “immigration reform” were told only to have U.S. flags, but that pretense seems to have been folded away and forgotten.
A classic result of victory in war is to populate the conquered territories with people from the invader nation. By that measure, the U.S. increasingly is being conquered each day.
And liberal media here are more than ready to tell the new arrivals what to think politically.
Do you care about this damage, leaders of the Diocese of Phoenix?

Now more than ever, vehicles like The Wanderer are needed for clarification and guidance on the issues of the day.

Catholic, conservative, orthodox, and loyal to the Magisterium have been this journal’s hallmarks for five generations. God willing, our message will continue well into this century and beyond.

Abortion Advocates No Longer Consider It “A Necessary Evil,” They Celebrate Killing Babies

Last week, Kamala Harris became the first vice president in U.S. history to make a public visit to an abortion clinic. Though the Democratic party’s support for abortion is nothing new, Harris’ Planned Parenthood appearance does illustrate how that support has become a flagrant celebration of abortion as a public and personal good, essential to both “freedom” and to “healthcare.” At the appearance, Harris proclaimed,  It is only right and fair that people have access…Continue Reading
