Pope at Santa Marta: God goes to the limit so no one should be lost

November 8, 2014 breaking Comments Off on Pope at Santa Marta: God goes to the limit so no one should be lost

(Vatican Radio) The true Christian is not afraid to get his hands dirty by reaching out to sinners, even at the risk of losing his reputation, because as the parable of the Good Shepherd teaches us, no one should be lost, said Pope Francis at Mass on Thursday morning. Pope Francis based his homily on the two parables of the lost sheep and the lost coin. The Pharisees and scribes were scandalized because Jesus “welcomes sinners and eats with them”. “It was quite a scandal at the time, for these people,” observed the Pope. “Just imagine if there had been press at that time!”. “But Jesus came for this very reason: to look for those who had strayed from the…Continue Reading

November 7, 2014 breaking Comments Off on Pope At Santa Marta: Enemies Of The Cross Of Christ

2014-11-07 Vatican Radio (Vatican Radio) Even today there are “pagan Christians” who “behave like enemies of the Cross of Christ”, said Pope Francis at morning Mass Friday at Casa Santa Marta, warning that we must guard against the temptations of a worldly society that lead us to ruin. Pope Francis was inspired by the words of St. Paul to the Philippians to dwell on two groups of Christians, still present today as they were in the time of the Apostle of the Gentiles. Christians who go forward in faith and Christians who “live like enemies of the Cross of Christ”. “Both groups – he said – were in the Church together, they went to Mass on Sunday, they praised the…Continue Reading

Pope At Audience: Pray For Your Bishops

November 5, 2014 breaking Comments Off on Pope At Audience: Pray For Your Bishops

(Vatican Radio) A Church that is not united around its bishops is a sick Church.  Jesus wanted unity between the bishop and all the faithful, starting with priests and deacons. However the role of bishop is not a position of honor, it is a service.  Therefore, there is no room in the Church for a worldly mentality, for people who seek ‘ecclesiastical careers’, for bishops who instead of lowering themselves in service, are vain, proud and power-hungry. The Ordained Ministries and in particular the role of Bishops and episcopal collegiality were the focus of Pope Francis’ General Audience catechesis this week. The Pope began by asking those present to pray for bishops, that they may be men of virtue: “It…Continue Reading

Pope: The Resurrection Is The Foundation Of Our Faith

November 4, 2014 breaking Comments Off on Pope: The Resurrection Is The Foundation Of Our Faith

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Monday, November 3, celebrated Mass in remembrance of all the Cardinals and Bishops who died during the past year. During the Mass, which was held in St. Peter’s Basilica, the Pope reminded us that thanks to the Resurrection of Jesus our faith is full of the joy of truth and eternal life. Reflecting on the reading from the second Book of Maccabees in which the ruler of Jerusalem collects “two thousand silver drachmas for sacrifice to be offered for the sins of the dead, thinking well and religiously concerning the resurrection” (2 Mac 12, 43-46),  – the Pope said – that thanks to God’s Word this celebration is enlightened by our faith in the Resurrection.…Continue Reading

Pope At Santa Marta: Rivalry And Vainglory Weaken The Church

November 3, 2014 breaking Comments Off on Pope At Santa Marta: Rivalry And Vainglory Weaken The Church

(Vatican Radio) Rivalry and vainglory are two worms that weaken the Church; instead we must act in a spirit of humility and harmony, without seeking our own interests said Pope Francis Monday morning at Mass in Casa Santa Marta. Taking a cue from the Letter of St. Paul to the Philippians, the Pope noted that a bishop’s joy lies in seeing love, unity and harmony in his Church. “This harmony – he said – is a grace, which the Holy Spirit creates, but we must do our part, we must do everything to help the Holy Spirit to create this harmony in the Church”. This is why St. Paul calls the Philippians to do nothing “out of selfishness or out…Continue Reading

Pope: Seek The Unity Which Is The Work Of The Holy Spirit

November 1, 2014 breaking Comments Off on Pope: Seek The Unity Which Is The Work Of The Holy Spirit

(Vatican Radio) On Friday Pope Francis met with members of the “Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic Covenant Communities and Fellowship.” The group is in Rome for its Sixteenth International Conference, which has for its theme “Praise and charismatic worship for a New Evangelization.” The Holy Father touched on several themes in his address to the group, beginning with the idea of “unity in diversity.” “Unity does not imply uniformity,” the Pope said. “It does not necessarily mean doing everything together or thinking in the same way. Nor does it signify a loss of identity. Unity in diversity is actually the opposite: it involves the joyful recognition and acceptance of the various gifts which the Holy Spirit gives to each one and…Continue Reading

Pope At Mass: Christian Life Is A Continuous Battle Against The Devil

October 31, 2014 breaking Comments Off on Pope At Mass: Christian Life Is A Continuous Battle Against The Devil

(Vatican Radio)  Pope Francis described Christian life as a continuous battle being waged against Satan, the world and the passions of the flesh. His comments came during his homily at Mass celebrated on Thursday morning at the Santa Marta residence. He stressed that the devil exists and we must fight against him with the armour of truth. Pope Francis’s reflections during his homily were taken from the words of St Paul in his letter to the Ephesians where the apostle urged Christians to put on the full armour of God in order to resist Satan’s temptations.  A Christian life, he said, has to be defended and it requires both strength and courage. It’s a continuous battle against the three main…Continue Reading
