Masterpiece Cakeshop Revisited

September 1, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Masterpiece Cakeshop Revisited

By MIKE MANNO How many bites at the apple — or wedding cake — does Colorado get? We all remember Jack Phillips and his Masterpiece Cakeshop, the baker and his shop that refused to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding, and who was ordered to stop making wedding cakes by the Colorado Civil Rights Commission. Then, after six years of litigation, he won his case before the U.S. Supreme Court this June. Well, Jack and his business are back in the state’s cross-hairs again. Shortly after their Supreme Court victory the civil rights commission filed another complaint, this time for refusing to bake a custom birthday cake with a blue exterior and pink interior to reflect the customer’s transition…Continue Reading

Rescuing St. Adalbert’s Parish In Chicago

August 31, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Rescuing St. Adalbert’s Parish In Chicago

By REY FLORES You may recall I wrote about St. Adalbert’s last year and the efforts being made to keep its doors open by longtime parishioners and some of the folks in the surrounding community. The fight to save St. Adalbert’s Church in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood has been in its 11th hour since June when the Society of St. Adalbert (SOSA) learned that the Archdiocese of Chicago had hired a commercial broker to sell this magnificent, cathedral-style, architectural masterpiece built by Polish immigrants in 1914. SOSA was formed in 2017 as a nonprofit by a group of former parishioners as well as other Polish parishioners from the Chicago area to develop a plan to save the church. Board member Margo…Continue Reading

Can Arizona RINO Martha McSally… Cover Her Border Footprints And March Into U.S. Senate?

August 30, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Can Arizona RINO Martha McSally… Cover Her Border Footprints And March Into U.S. Senate?

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Those who wonder how generally conservative Arizona has John McCain and Jeff Flake as its members of the U.S. Senate could gain insight by observing the desperate campaign strategy for another acknowledged establishment Republican, Cong. Martha McSally, of Arizona’s more-liberal Second Congressional District. McSally’s main GOP opponent for a U.S. Senate seat in the Arizona primary election scheduled for August 28 is conservative former state senator and physician Kelli Ward. As the election approached, a frantic barrage of advertising by McSally’s campaign and other groups backing her hammered Ward for, among various alleged transgressions, favoring border “amnesty,” opposing President Trump, and being weak in the fight against international terrorism. If any candidate in this race…Continue Reading

Somehow Energized By Abortion . . . Dems Can’t See Why Others Don’t Join Them In Driving Off Cliff

August 29, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Somehow Energized By Abortion . . . Dems Can’t See Why Others Don’t Join Them In Driving Off Cliff

By DEXTER DUGGAN The Democratic Party is making progress on the abortion issue — in the same sense that an impaired driver speeding toward the rim of the Grand Canyon makes progress toward plunging into a deadly abyss. Back in the 1990s days of the Bill Clinton presidency, “safe, legal and rare” was the deflecting lie that left-wing Dems employed to defend permissive abortion while pretending they didn’t like it. Today, with Bill and Hillary’s daughter all grown up, massive abortion is thought of as a vital engine in that fatally misdirected driver’s vehicle, supposedly helping make the U.S. economy surge forward. At an August 11 New York get-together lauding and promoting abortion, daughter Chelsea did a good impression of…Continue Reading

Pope Francis Takes The Fifth

August 28, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Pope Francis Takes The Fifth

Pope Francis’ inflight press conference during his return from Ireland certainly did not give the impression of a man who had just been implicated in a major cover-up causing a worldwide scandal of major proportions. His answer to a simple yes or no question from a reporter was puzzling, to say the least, as that answer was coming from Christ’s representative here on Earth. The top Vatican representative in the U.S. from 2011 to 2016, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, had just accused him of deceit and cover-up regarding ex-cardinal McCarrick. At the very least, even if we were to consider Viganò’s testimony suspect, we would conclude this was a scandalous assault on the Catholic Church and the Pope himself. Any…Continue Reading

The Half-Hearted Half-Century

August 28, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on The Half-Hearted Half-Century

By CHRISTOPHER MANION He has failed, he has failed, he has missed his chance He has just done things by half. . . . — Robert Service, The Men Who Don’t Fit In The history of the American Church since Vatican II is riddled with the ruins of abandoned doctrines and responsibilities. The result has been a half-baked mélange of happy-talk, left-wing politics, and content-free moral teaching. When Humanae Vitae was promulgated in July 1968, our bishops seemed paralyzed. The savage power of the sexual revolution acted like a non-stop eraser on the blackboard displaying two thousand years of Church teaching. What Pope Benedict XVI called the Culture of Death was in charge, and it rolled over America’s Catholic hierarchy…Continue Reading

Vatican on Defensive

August 27, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Vatican on Defensive

The wagons are circling at the Vatican. These are the Latest Headlines on the news that sent shock waves throughout the Vatican this weekend. Perhaps equally shocking is the silence on the matter from the Chair of Peter. Former nunciature official: ‘Vigano said the truth’ Monsignor Jean-François Lantheaume, the former first counsellor at the apostolic nunciature in Washington D.C., has said that the former nuncio, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, told “the truth” in his explosive statement released to the press on Aug. 25. A Leaven In The World . . . Calls For Episcopal Resignation Increase

August 27, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on A Leaven In The World . . . Calls For Episcopal Resignation Increase

By FR. KEVIN M. CUSICK One doesn’t wish to join in with the calls for blood in the current crisis over sexual abuse embroiling the Church, but rather to simply report the news in regard to increasing numbers of laity who have decided that bishops found to have covered up sexual abuse, or moved priests around after knowledge of abuse, must go. Justice must be served and, in this case as ever, no one need step down without first being satisfied that due process has been observed. The Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report was largely a catalogue of priests accused of crimes. Accusations do not always lead to convictions. Priests are public persons and sometimes falsely accused for reasons having nothing…Continue Reading
