Ex-nuncio . . . Explosive Testimony

August 26, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Ex-nuncio . . . Explosive Testimony

In the last 24 hours, news of ex-nuncio Archbishop Vigano’s explosive claims of Pope Francis involvement in the McCarrick cover-up is garnering headlines worldwide. Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, was apostolic nuncio in Washington D.C. from 2011 to 2016, the highest ranking Vatican official in the U.S. at the time. His explosive testimony will have dire consequences. This could very well be a historic turning point for the Catholic Church. These claims will have to be addressed by the Pope himself in the coming days. If true, this is devastating news for the Church and for this already damaged Pontificate. At this time for faithful Catholics all over the world, prayer for the Church and the Pope is much needed. Joseph Matt – Publisher

Clerics’ Kicking The Can Comes To The End Of The Road?

By DEXTER DUGGAN In 2016, at the March 30 White House Easter prayer breakfast, then-Vice President Joe Biden said once again that he was “a practicing Catholic.” Biden, however, fully adhered to the Democratic Party’s platform of the Culture of Death. As I wrote in the lead story for the hardcopy issue of The Wanderer dated for April 14, 2016: “Biden actually is a strong backer of massive permissive abortion of defenseless infants, ‘same-sex marriage,’ compulsion of religious believers to act against their consciences, embryonic stem-cell research, and other instances of opposition to basic beliefs for practicing Catholics. “By proclaiming his Catholic fidelity,” I added, “Biden — and other politicians like him — gravely misleads the nation.” I contacted the…Continue Reading

Turning Point USA Liberating Blacks . . . Student Activists’ Leader Would “Rather Win Culture War”

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Step inside the front door of Turning Point USA’s new national headquarters here for a primer on the booming student organization’s activist focus. “We’re not a think tank. We’re a battle tank!” proclaims a large poster of a modern war wagon in action. Battling against what? Statism. Nearby, a large poster asks, “If socialism is so great, why don’t people flee from Florida to Cuba?” Videos and literature say Turning Point USA (TPUSA) is the “most effective conservative student movement in America,” with its videos viewed two million times a day, and 20 million reached on social media each week. Eighteen years old when he began to give shape to his dream in 2012 with…Continue Reading

Democracy, Relativism, And A Swim Across The English Channel

By ALBERTO M. PIEDRA (Editor’s Note: Alberto M. Piedra is professor emeritus of the Institute of World Politics.) + + + “A Power which regulates human behavior according to its own notions of social utility is absolute in a quite different way from one whose subjects have had their actions prescribed for them by God. And here we glimpse the fact that the denial of a divine lawgiving and the establishment of a human lawgiving are the most prodigious strides which society can take towards a truly absolute Power. So long as a supernatural origin was ascribed to law, this step remained untaken” — Bertrand de Jouvenel. + + + A month ago, my grandson Gordon, studying at Eton College…Continue Reading

Wuerl Turned Upside Down

August 23, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Wuerl Turned Upside Down

By SHAUN KENNEY Much ink has already been spilled on the activities of the Catholic hierarchy in Pennsylvania, principal among these being Donald Cardinal Wuerl of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. Let us dispense with the idea that priestly celibacy is the root cause of this crisis. No one looks at these child molesters and wonders aloud whether things might have been different if they had a wife and children. Yet the problem here isn’t merely “child molesters” in cassocks. Rather, once again we are brought face to face with a problem no one seems to want to discuss — either in 2002 or in 2018, and that is the presence of a sexually active homosexual clergy ordained in the…Continue Reading

A Shepherd For Our Time

August 22, 2018 Frontpage, Uncategorized Comments Off on A Shepherd For Our Time

By JOSEPH MATT Into all of the darkness and despair that have overwhelmed the Catholic Church this past month enters a shepherd who stands tall among his peers. His actions and words are representative of a man who stands for what God called him to be — a shepherd. Bishop Robert Morlino issued a letter to the members of his Diocese of Madison, Wis., this past week addressing the latest Church scandal. In his letter the good bishop short-circuits any excuse-ridden happy talk and the tired PR speak, which the lay faithful have become so accustomed to hearing from our hierarchy. Bishop Morlino addresses the current scandal in the Church, pulling no punches as to what the root of the…Continue Reading

Hawkeye Redux

By MIKE MANNO In our February 8, 2018 edition I wrote about a student group, Business Leaders in Christ (BLinC), that had its status as a recognized student group revoked by the University of Iowa. The long and short of the story was that while the group was open to all students, its leaders had to affirm certain Christian principles. “All Christians are under obligation to seek to follow the example of Christ in their own lives and in human society,” was how the BLinC expressed it; but even if you could not follow, you could still become a member, just not an elected leader. The story ended with a federal court decision which ordered the university to restore BLinC’s…Continue Reading

The Wanderer Flashback 2013 . . . Agony In Albany Revisited . . . Honors Galore For Retiring Bishop Hubbard

August 20, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on The Wanderer Flashback 2013 . . . Agony In Albany Revisited . . . Honors Galore For Retiring Bishop Hubbard

Editors Note: This article first appeared in The Wanderer in Nov 9, 2013 written by our late news editor Paul Likoudis. We intend to reprint his 10 part series titled Agony in Albany on our website soon. By PAUL LIKOUDIS “This is a time of taking stock for the bishop,” wrote The Albany Times-Union’s Paul Grondahl on September 30. “Several honorary dinners and liturgies are being planned for [Bishop Howard] Hubbard. Masters of ceremony will strain to find new superlatives.” On October 20, a crowd packed Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Albany to honor Bishop Hubbard as he celebrated the 50 years of his Ordination as a priest. Among those present were Timothy Cardinal Dolan of New York and his predecessor, Edward Cardinal…Continue Reading

A Leaven In The World… Living Faith In Dark Days For The Church And Victims

August 20, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on A Leaven In The World… Living Faith In Dark Days For The Church And Victims

By FR. KEVIN M. CUSICK The publication of the Pennsylvania grand jury report has laid bare the sins of the fathers, our spiritual fathers. Both priests and bishops, who abused the young and/or covered it up through an evil intention, placed children in the way of further harm with the sinful excuse of “saving face” for the Church. Bishops who conflated the reputation of the Church with that of individual priests, or bishops, were suffering under the malaise of a most destructive delusion. The Church exists for the salvation of souls and the protection of their purity as well. The public reputation of a sinner who visits evil of any kind upon an innocent child is the only thing that…Continue Reading

Despite Torrents Of Criticism . . . Trump Keeps Surfing Along With His Winning Endorsements

August 19, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Despite Torrents Of Criticism . . . Trump Keeps Surfing Along With His Winning Endorsements

By DEXTER DUGGAN In mid-August dominant media obsessed for days over whether President Trump had used the racist N-word sometime in private. Around the clock, given current 24-hour news cycles, Trump-hating journalists bulged their eyes at that nasty possibility — just as they had glared throughout Trump’s presidency at one after another after another example of what they regarded as the president’s unforgivable and impeachable personality. Closer to home, though, vile attacks were hardly worth mentioning by the journos, and quickly to be forgotten. Their lodestar New York Times recently hired as one of its own opinion writers the aggressively racist Sarah Jeong, who had a history of publicly tweeting one despicable slur after another at white people, of which…Continue Reading
