Will The Law Pierce The Seal Of The Confessional?

July 30, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Will The Law Pierce The Seal Of The Confessional?

By MIKE MANNO Recently Australia’s territorial assembly in Canberra passed a measure tightening Canberra’s child abuse reporting law to include Catholic priests, making it illegal for priests to fail to report abuse they learn about in the confessional. The provision will take effect on March 31 next year. As I watch attacks on religious liberty, one thing I have noticed is that just because there is an attack overseas doesn’t mean we are immune from it. Those chipping away at our rights are active all over the globe and ideas that start elsewhere will soon find their way to our shores, and the reverse is also true: A lot of our bad ideas migrate elsewhere. And, in case you are…Continue Reading

Dems Trying To Find Their Way… Can’t Get To Right Destination If The Maps Are All Wrong

July 29, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Dems Trying To Find Their Way… Can’t Get To Right Destination If The Maps Are All Wrong

By DEXTER DUGGAN An inapplicable roadmap won’t get you to the correct destination. You can’t cross the Everglades with a diagram of the Rocky Mountains or see how wide one of the Great Lakes is by using a chart of the Pacific Ocean. If your tour guide says he likes mountain goats better than alligators, that’s still no excuse for looking at pictures of Pike’s Peak when you’re trying to find the way from Tampa to Miami. However, much of the advice being offered to Democrats about how to arrive at Victory City on Election Day doesn’t acknowledge actual political road conditions. Anyone knows, or should, that the national Democratic Party’s militant embrace of repellent permissive abortion has cost it…Continue Reading

Simony For Sodomy: A Primer

July 28, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Simony For Sodomy: A Primer

By CHRISTOPHER MANION For years what was obvious to many was denied by prelates who knew the truth. How many? They know, we don’t. But we do know that they spent billions in secret settlements with victims of criminal homosexual child abuse. They paid those settlements with contributions from the faithful. At their 2002 meeting in Dallas, bishops were given the golden opportunity to have a cleansing truth-telling. During the proceedings, Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz of Lincoln, Neb., offered a motion to investigate the causes of the sex abuse and cover-up scandals. Such an investigation would have quickly revealed the cause and effect — rampant homosexuality, kept secret instead of admitted and expunged, and the immeasurably catastrophic damage done to the…Continue Reading

Going Away To College

July 27, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Going Away To College

By REY FLORES The time when we would say, “Our firstborn baby is going away to college,” once seemed to far away, but that day has finally arrived. I’m sure many parents and families will be going through this bittersweet moment this summer and fall, just as many have before, and many will do the same in years to come. It is a rite of passage that none of us are ever really ready for, but we must accept it as part of life. In today’s climate it is getting harder for Catholic families to choose a college which will maintain its Catholic identity, rather than to succumb to the secular forces which can rob our children of their faith.…Continue Reading

Guaranteed Basic Income? Start With School Choice

July 26, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Guaranteed Basic Income? Start With School Choice

By SHAUN KENNEY If you are reading and seeing things regarding a “universal basic income,” you’re not crazy. This idea — once the thought experiment of libertarian economist Milton Friedman or “Uncle Milton” to his legions of adherents — is starting to pick up traction from the unlikeliest of quarters — the political left. Friedman’s logic ran something like this. Take the trillions of dollars that the United States spends on the social welfare state — its handouts, bureaucrats, and civil service. Instead of spending it on the welfare state, simply take that amount and divide it among each American citizen. Thus every American would get a single check of a several thousands of dollars a year, but with the…Continue Reading

A Fiftieth Anniversary Perspective… Is Humanae Vitae Succeeding?

July 25, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on A Fiftieth Anniversary Perspective… Is Humanae Vitae Succeeding?

By PEGGY MOEN A.J. Matt Jr., now The Wanderer’s editor emeritus, wrote an essay for the fortieth anniversary of Humanae Vitae, published in our issue dated August 7, 2008. Titled “The End of a Dark Night,” the editorial saw hope for the encyclical because of “heartening evidence that more recently appointed bishops and ordained priests are much more conformable to the Church’s teaching” on human life and reproduction. The full text appears below, followed by further commentary. + + + The publication by a seminary professor in our July 17 [2008] issue of his assessment of the effects of the 40 terrible years of widespread dissent and rejection by Catholics of Pope Paul VI’s landmark encyclical Humanae Vitae concluded with…Continue Reading

Leave It To The Liberals

July 24, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Leave It To The Liberals

By MIKE MANNO Downtown Hope Center in Anchorage, Alaska, is a faith-based nonprofit that provides shelter for homeless and abused women. The Hope Center also maintains a church on its premises. Last February, while the center was full, an intoxicated man who “identifies” as a woman was denied admission to the center after being expelled from another homeless shelter for fighting. The center did provide the individual with cab fare to a local hospital to treat his injuries. Besides space, the center was also concerned about the effect the presence an intoxicated man might have on the battered women it sheltered. Notwithstanding any of that, the individual then filed a complaint with the Anchorage Equal Rights Commission claiming that “she”…Continue Reading

“Two Minutes Hate”? . . . No, It’s Non-Stop Hate Against Prime Foe Of Self-Anointed Elite

July 23, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on “Two Minutes Hate”? . . . No, It’s Non-Stop Hate Against Prime Foe Of Self-Anointed Elite

By DEXTER DUGGAN Refuting the hatred conjured by dominant media against Donald Trump — whatever the moment’s reason for their horror against him happens to be — is about as futile a task as expecting the Ministry of Truth in George Orwell’s novel 1984 to stand for the same truth today and also tomorrow. The Ministry of Truth constantly rewrote the record to suit whatever the party line of the hour was. Yesterday’s “facts” disappeared down the “memory hole,” replaced by today’s totally different ones. Which will be replaced by tomorrow’s. Vladimir Putin was an okay dictator yesterday. The same Vladimir Putin is a monstrous dictator today. Manhattan multibillionaire developer Trump was a cosmopolitan friend to all. The same Republican…Continue Reading

Satan Weighs In On Contraception: Why Not?

July 22, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Satan Weighs In On Contraception: Why Not?

By CHRISTOPHER MANION Humanae Vitae’s text beautifully invokes the natural law to celebrate life, the family, children, and the role of sexual affection in God’s plan for procreation. But Blessed Paul also warns us that, if contraception becomes widespread, governments will eventually use it to destroy the family, and ultimately, the culture. This tyrannical practice has diverse methods, but they all operate under the umbrella brand called “population control.” Blessed Paul’s warning has often been called “prophetic,” but it is based on Scripture as well as common sense and experience. Consider Gen. 1, verse 28: “And God blessed them, saying: be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the fishes of the sea,…Continue Reading

Hope for the Future . . . This Essay Was Submitted By A 15-Year-Old Wanderer Reader

July 21, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Hope for the Future . . . This Essay Was Submitted By A 15-Year-Old Wanderer Reader

J.M.J Annalise Penn   Many women these days have fallen prey for a trick that ends in death. They are told that they have a ‘right’ to choose; that if they want, they can get rid of their unborn baby. And not ‘get rid of’ as in put up for adoption, but ‘get rid of’ as in killing it. ‘Get rid of’ as in never even giving the baby a chance at life. Women who choose abortion are falling prey to evil, being led astray by the sickly sweet voice of Satan, who tells them that it is alright to permit the murder of their own flesh and blood child. Despite what society says, women considering abortion should know that…Continue Reading
