So What’s A Little Pornography Among Friends?

March 13, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on So What’s A Little Pornography Among Friends?

By MIKE MANNO Statistics from the Internet tell us that, as you read this, there are 30,000 people in the United States who are viewing Internet pornography. The demand for this “art” is so high that every 39 minutes a new porn video is produced. Worldwide, pornography is nearly a $100 billion-a-year industry. The Applied Research Forum reported that in 2002 alone there were more than 11,000 new hard-core video/DVD titles released. Family Safe Media reports that there are nearly five million pornographic websites and they make up nearly 15 percent of all websites. The average age of first exposure to Internet porn is 11; 80 percent of 15- to 17-year-olds have viewed porn online and 10 percent of adults…Continue Reading

Gun Control Or Self-Control?

March 12, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Gun Control Or Self-Control?

By CHRISTOPHER MANION The recent massacre of students in Parkland, Fla., has justifiably generated a generous flow of commentary. Sifting through the myths for the most prominent arguments, it becomes clear that the American left has stuck to its guns, so to speak, demanding more government power — in this case, the federal regulation of guns and those permitted to possess them. “Gun Control” has long been a central plank in the platform of the American left, where it resides in comfortable cohabitation with the left’s celebration of the sexual revolution in all of its constantly mutating forms. After all, leftists want to show the world that they can control something! Of course, such a contradiction can exist only in…Continue Reading

Resource Center Official Says… Denver Archbishop’s Talk On Humanae Vitae Inspired Her

March 11, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Resource Center Official Says… Denver Archbishop’s Talk On Humanae Vitae Inspired Her

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Denver Archbishop Samuel Aquila’s talk here to observe the fiftieth anniversary of Blessed Paul VI’s encyclical Humanae Vitae was an inspiration on how to deal with the “‘ anti- culture’ seeking to distort and damage our sexuality at every turn,” according to the coordinator of the Phoenix Catholic diocesan resource center that sponsored Aquila’s talk. “ I was struck by Archbishop Aquila’s comments on encounter. Rather than immediately placing his reflections on ( Humanae Vitae) and human sexuality within the language of moral right and wrong, he chose first to create a context of encounter — a context of being fully present to others and a love that is restorative,” said Katrina Zeno, coordinator of…Continue Reading

God Proves Himself

March 10, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on God Proves Himself

By SHAUN KENNEY Mr. C — shares a Newsmax article talking about the rise in atheism while scientific evidence seems to be centering on the actual existence of an actual God. Interestingly enough, the article (“Scientific, Philosophical Case for God’s Existence Reaches New Heights,” Newsmax, February 20, 2018) mentions the arguments from Dr. Alvin Plantinga’s Where The Conflict Really Lies, which is a relatively new book that attacks the Darwinist reliance on reproducibility. The book — published in 2011 — is an interesting argument that effectively states that science and faith may have its discord, but science and Darwinian naturalism have even deeper problems to resolve, which Plantinga effectively means physicalism — or the concept that mankind can know the…Continue Reading

Pale Pentecost… The Treason Against Women

March 9, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Pale Pentecost… The Treason Against Women

By J.B. TONER (J.B. Toner studied literature at Thomas More College of Liberal Arts. He is the son of Deacon James H. Toner, a frequent contributor to The Wanderer.) + + + On January 21, 2017, women marching for the dignity of women donned cloven pink hats like albino flames, ostensibly named for a cat. No one, perhaps, could have foreseen this latest move in the degradation of womankind; but as Milton’s Satan remarks, “And in the lowest deep, a lower deep / Still threat’ning to devour me, opens wide.” It’s conceivable that with some prognostication, we may forearm ourselves against the next devouring gambit. First, of course, we must chart the minotaur-haunted paths that led us here. Tracing the…Continue Reading

Disgusted Democrats… Could Be Basis Of GOP 2018 Campaign Ads

March 8, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Disgusted Democrats… Could Be Basis Of GOP 2018 Campaign Ads

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Longtime Democrats who have become disgusted with or left that political party could be the basis of powerful campaign commercials for the other side in the 2018 midterm elections, to hold the mirror up to what that party has become, if only Republican media strategy will show the courage of GOP platform convictions. In one recent incident, toxic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of San Francisco, was heckled at a February 20 Phoenix gathering by a lifelong Democrat who had been won over by Donald Trump. As multimillionaire Pelosi recited the standard leftwing resentment of wealthy people, a Latina in the audience called out, “How much are you worth, Nancy? Do you live in…Continue Reading

Rationalization Of Assisted Suicide And Euthanasia

March 7, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Rationalization Of Assisted Suicide And Euthanasia

By MIKE MANNO In the last few weeks I’ve devoted my column to the subject of physician-assisted suicide (doctor-prescribed death), the slippery slope to euthanasia, and the dangers of the right-to-die movement. We’ve all seen and read the warnings, but below that, how is it that those proponents of death are able to rationalize to themselves, and to society at large, that killing, or assisting in the killing of a fellow human being, is a moral thing. I’m not wise enough — even with a Jesuit education! — to figure all that out. However, there is a Swedish researcher, Fabian Stahle, who penned a peer-reviewed article for The Journal of Ethics in Mental Health that does answer that question. Relying…Continue Reading

Blowback For The Unborn

March 6, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Blowback For The Unborn

By CHRISTOPHER MANION Last week we reported on the “Fatal Fourteen” Catholic senators who cast the deciding votes on January 29 that killed legislation written to protect from abortion those unborn children capable of pain (i.e., past twenty weeks of gestation). While USCCB leaders were at the time announcing “an important escalation of our efforts” in their nationwide campaign in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens, our shepherds made no similar efforts to protect the unborn capable of surviving outside the womb. In fact, to this day USCCB leaders have been silent regarding the “Fatal Fourteen” Catholic pro-abortion politicians. Only one brave prelate has stepped forward to exercise his consecrated authority…Continue Reading

Vote-Hungry Nevada “Catholic” Dem Slimes Pregnancy Center

March 5, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Vote-Hungry Nevada “Catholic” Dem Slimes Pregnancy Center

By DEXTER DUGGAN Government can be pretty activist in protecting consumers in some ways. Grocers probably wouldn’t get away with it for long if they advertised “well-matured” foods that actually were spoiled rotten. Or car dealers would be deflated if advertising “venerable” vehicles that were so old they were about to collapse. People probably wouldn’t buy bad stuff if they understood the transaction. Enter the world of euphemism — hiding the truth to make spoiled commodities sound palatable, an invitation to consume the indigestible until its toxins become insufferable. Younger pro-lifers may not realize, but the term “pro-choice” wasn’t minted the day that the U.S. Supreme Court mandated national permissive abortion in January 1973. Pro-abortionists struggled to devise a term…Continue Reading

The Eternal Lure Of Nationalism

March 4, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on The Eternal Lure Of Nationalism

By PATRICK J. BUCHANAN In a surprise overtime victory in the finals of the Olympic men’s hockey tournament, the Russians defeated Germany, 4-3. But the Russians were not permitted to have their national anthem played or flag raised, due to a past doping scandal. So, the team ignored the prohibition and sang out the Russian national anthem over the sounds of the Olympic anthem. One recalls the scene in Casablanca, where French patrons of Rick’s saloon stood and loudly sang the La Marseillaise to drown out the Die Wacht am Rhein being sung by a table of German officers. When the combined North-South Korean Olympic team entered the stadium, Vice President Mike Pence remained seated and silent. But tens of…Continue Reading
