Trump Played Fair By Pardoning… Arpaio Was Railroaded By Legal System

September 6, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on Trump Played Fair By Pardoning… Arpaio Was Railroaded By Legal System

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Commenting on President Trump’s pardon of former Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio for misdemeanor criminal contempt of court, national conservative radio talk host Mark Levin raised the question on August 28 of what are people supposed to do when judges themselves defy the Constitution. Dominant media’s slant assumed that Arpaio actually was a “racist” who broke the law by policing against massive illegal immigration. But what if he was the victim of judicial manipulation that’s familiar to Arizonans who suffer under a corrupt open-borders establishment willing to destroy even prominent officials in the Grand Canyon State who don’t follow its line? Perhaps illustrating why Trump won the presidency after so many voters hoped he’d…Continue Reading

Helping The Catholic Alcoholic

September 5, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on Helping The Catholic Alcoholic

By REY FLORES The fallen human, born with original sin, is not perfect, but there are absolutely no reasons we shouldn’t strive to be saints. Our life here is to work toward eternal life in Heaven with God, so it’s time to get to work, folks. As an alcoholic in recovery, I too have known the destructive results of a maddening and spiritual disease. Everything from coming from a broken home, to broken hearts and broken bones, it’s no fun out there in our self-imposed hell. The path of destruction left behind by alcoholics is not pretty. It can ruin lives — if not completely, at least partly. It can take a long time to recover one’s own life, if…Continue Reading

Reasons To Believe

September 4, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on Reasons To Believe

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK Pope Francis made headlines back in 2013 when he responded to an open letter published in the Italian newspaper La Repubblica by its atheist editor Eugenio Scalfari. Scalfari asked “if God forgives those who do not believe and do not seek faith if they sincerely obey their conscience?” The Pope’s answer: “God’s forgiveness and mercy is open even to the Godless”; the “key task for unbelievers is to obey their conscience; the goodness or the wickedness of our behavior depends on this decision.” Predictably, some in the media seized the moment to contend that the Pope was diminishing the Church’s role in salvation history and suggesting a moral equivalence between Christianity and atheism. There is no…Continue Reading

A World Still At Unrest . . . That’s Tear Gas, Not Incense, Rising By The Bells Of St. Mary’s Basilica

September 3, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on A World Still At Unrest . . . That’s Tear Gas, Not Incense, Rising By The Bells Of St. Mary’s Basilica

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — The neighborhood around St. Mary’s Basilica here, downtown on East Monroe Street, has seen its portion of historic happenings, probably the same as any city’s share of memorable events as a small settlement grew to a substantial spot on the map. Construction of an adobe church began in 1880 for the oldest Catholic parish in Phoenix. St. Mary’s remained the city’s only one until 1924. It’s hard to believe that fact today, less than a century later, when a motorist from California can consume more than two hours to drive west to east across the sprawling metropolitan area when the freeways are well-flowing. Probably St. Mary’s high point as a Catholic place of worship occurred…Continue Reading

Summer Doldrums News Roundup

By CHRISTOPHER MANION Hugo Black, a racist Democrat, joined the Ku Klux Klan shortly after successfully defending the murderer of James E. Coyle, a Catholic priest. Black built his winning Senate campaign around multiple appearances at KKK meetings across Alabama. He kept his membership secret until he was confirmed as an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court. “I would have joined any group if it helped get me votes,” he said later [Black’s portrait still hangs in the halls of the Supreme Court in Washington]. Big Brother, call your office: A California state senator wants to punish people who “willfully and repeatedly” refuse “to use a transgender resident’s preferred name or pronouns.” So if you refuse to refer…Continue Reading

Can The GOP’s Shotgun Marriage Be Saved?

September 1, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on Can The GOP’s Shotgun Marriage Be Saved?

By PATRICK J. BUCHANAN Wednesday morning, November 9, 2016, Republicans awoke to learn they had won the lottery. Donald Trump had won the presidency by carrying Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. All three states had gone Democratic in the last six presidential elections. The GOP had won both houses of Congress. Party control of governorships and state legislatures rivaled the halcyon years of the 1920s. But not everyone was jubilant. Neocons and Never-Trumpers were appalled, and as morose as they had been since the primaries produced a populist slaughter of what GOP elites had boasted was the finest class of presidential candidates in memory. And there was this sobering fact: Hillary Clinton had won the popular vote. Her margin would rise…Continue Reading

A Digital Library

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK J.M. of Wikieup, Ariz., writes to suggest that “parents might get some insight into their children’s academic environment by delving into their required summer reading lists.” It is a point well taken. We cannot assume any longer that teachers will use these lists to introduce our children to the classics and uplifting modern literature. There is a new breed of teacher, committed to waging the culture wars and the sexual revolution in their classes. There is no reason to assume that your children’s teachers will not be in that category. J.M calls our attention to “an interesting article in The Imaginative Conservative (theimaginativeconservative.org). The article notes that a survey shows high school seniors read on average…Continue Reading

Back To School

August 30, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on Back To School

By REY FLORES If you think this is going to be one of those whimsical, feel-good “back-to-school’ columns recalling days gone by when little Junior brought an apple to Miss Crabtree on the first day of school, you are sorely mistaken. I will instead take this opportunity to point out just how dumbed-down Americans have become in everything from reading and spelling, to math and science. We won’t even get into how uninformed, unaware, and deliberately misinformed many Catholics have become in the postconciliar era. That is a column all in and of itself. For several decades now, the average American student has become nothing more than another falling number, a failing statistic, in the monstrosity known as the American…Continue Reading

Where Is Hopalong Cassidy Now That We Need Him?

August 29, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on Where Is Hopalong Cassidy Now That We Need Him?

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK I see few counterparts of Hopalong Cassidy, Flash Gordon, and Nancy Drew these days. They have been replaced by pot-smoking “dudes,” sleep-around women, and homosexual super heroes. The world of rock music is worse. It seems as if modern rock stars go out of their way to project an image that is the antithesis of the clean-cut matinee idols of the past. What else can be the purpose of the bizarre hairstyles, tattoos, body-piercings, and open allusions to their dissolute lifestyles than an assault on traditional values? Most of them make Elvis look like a choir boy. The heroes of old were All-American boys, wholesome women, brave and courteous, self-effacing, devoted to God and country. They…Continue Reading

Trump’s Phoenix Talk . . . Brings A History Lesson To Radicals Who Think They Can Rewrite It

August 28, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on Trump’s Phoenix Talk . . . Brings A History Lesson To Radicals Who Think They Can Rewrite It

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — There could have been more significance than the White House realized when Donald Trump spoke here as he made his first appearances in the West since his election as president. Still under media opprobrium over baseless, opportunistic accusations that he’s a “white nationalist” or supporter of the Ku Klux Klan, Trump spoke in one of the halls at the vast Phoenix Convention Center on August 22, about four miles north of South Mountain High School, an educational center with a large black enrollment whose mascot used to be The Rebels. Neither Trump nor the traveling White House made any reference to or showed any awareness of the South Mountain Rebels. Current leftist attempts to rewrite…Continue Reading
