A Potpourri . . . Demonic Possession, Marriage, And The Incarnate Condition

July 27, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on A Potpourri . . . Demonic Possession, Marriage, And The Incarnate Condition

By GEORGE A. KENDALL I am alarmed at the tendency of the contemporary Church to minimize the phenomenon of demonic possession, insisting that true possession is very rare, and that most such cases are “merely” mental illness, fully explainable by modern science without resort to the supernatural. As a result, in many cases, the Church refuses to give permission for exorcism where possession is suspected, seeming to require that first we need to prove beyond any doubt that there is no natural explanation for the phenomenon, a burden of proof that for logical reasons cannot possibly be met. One of the things that disturbs me about this is that, given that there is such a thing as possession, there are…Continue Reading

Trump Trumps Obama’s Transgender Military Nightmare

July 26, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on Trump Trumps Obama’s Transgender Military Nightmare

Rey Flores President Donald J. Trump has again kicked the proverbial progressive hornet’s nest. Trump just knocked over the big, tacky, rainbow-colored unicorn fantasy that Obama had forced upon our once-again proud military.   Therefore, America needed Trump, so he could fix all the insanity that Obama, the two Bushes and Bill Clinton wreaked upon our nation. If the fake news media and politically correct, sore loser progressives, Democrats and RINOs are saying that President Trump is an international embarrassment to the United States, the exact opposite is true.   While Trump seeks to make the military exactly what the military was created to do, ex-President Obama abused it as a place to attempt a sick and twisted “transgender” social…Continue Reading

A Truly Remarkable Beatification Cause For Families

July 26, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on A Truly Remarkable Beatification Cause For Families

By JAMES MONTI With recent events in the Middle East and the slaughter of Fr. Jacques Hamel in France last year as well as all the signs of anti-Catholic hostility in our own country, the subject of martyrdom for the faith has been receiving growing attention of late. A whole new chapter in the Church’s history of venerating those who have paid the ultimate price for their faith may soon be written with the amplification this year of the “Roman phase” of the beautification cause for a Polish family of nine, Jozef and Wiktoria Ulma and their seven young children. We have seen in recent years the advancement to the altars of two married couples, Saints Louis and Zelie Martin…Continue Reading

Happy Birthday, Humanae Vitae!

July 25, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on Happy Birthday, Humanae Vitae!

By CHRISTOPHER MANION This week we celebrate the 49th anniversary of Humanae Vitae, the brave and beautiful encyclical of Blessed Paul VI promulgated on July 25, 1968. Brave? Absolutely. This eloquent articulation of the teaching of the Church and the fundamentals of the Natural Law constituted a direct challenge to what Pope Benedict has called “the spirit of the age.” And the reaction of that decadent and resentful age demonstrates just how brave it was — Francis Cardinal Stafford, a young Baltimore priest in 1968, describes the pain suffered by the defenders of the faith that year as “Gethsemane.” And beautiful? How could it not be? The gentle, clear, but firm unfolding of the mystery of sacramental marriage and its…Continue Reading

You Might Be A Liberal If…

July 24, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on You Might Be A Liberal If…

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK I have no idea if Jeff Foxworthy is displeased with all the take-offs on his popular “You might be a redneck if . . . ” one-liners that float around the Internet. The versions that I see most often are entitled something like “You might be a liberal if . . .”, or “You might be a Democrat if . . .” Perhaps Foxworthy likes the publicity. Or he could resent the manner in which political views that may not be his own are linked to him. I can’t imagine that Foxworthy would want to alienate half the people of the United States. His digs at working-class Southerners, found in his best-selling books and standup comedy…Continue Reading

For Catholics, What Is True Wealth?

July 23, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on For Catholics, What Is True Wealth?

By REY FLORES Pontius Pilate once asked, “What is truth?” Today I ask you, “What is wealth?” Forbes magazine just released their list of the wealthiest counties in the United States. In their report titled, “Greater Washington has half of the nation’s richest counties,” coming in at number one is Loudon County in Virginia. Not surprisingly, it’s a short 36 miles away from Washington, D.C., the capital of the entire Free World. Not trailing too far behind are Falls Church, Fairfax, and Arlington Counties respectively, and Howard County, Md. — also all a stone’s throw away from Washington, D.C. The remaining richest counties on the Forbes list are Douglas County in Colorado, Los Alamos County in New Mexico, Williamson County…Continue Reading

Will Dems Warn GOP To “Honor John”?. . . McCain’s Medical Surprise Adds Turmoil To Senate Ills

July 22, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on Will Dems Warn GOP To “Honor John”?. . . McCain’s Medical Surprise Adds Turmoil To Senate Ills

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Politics shouldn’t take too long to give its twist to the surprise announcement here that Sen. John McCain has aggressive brain cancer. Although initial reaction from both sides of the aisle praised McCain and expressed hopes for his recovery — sometimes even sincerely — how long could it be before Republicans were warned by liberal Democrats to truly honor the Arizona senator by working with them to improve, not replace, Obamacare? A quick look around the web after the cancer announcement was made later in the day on July 19, Wednesday, didn’t show this line was being pushed yet. But it’s hard to believe it wouldn’t be taken up shortly, even before this hard-copy issue…Continue Reading

The Real Crimes Of Russiagate

July 21, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on The Real Crimes Of Russiagate

By PATRICK J. BUCHANAN For a year, the big question of Russiagate has boiled down to this: Did Donald Trump’s campaign collude with the Russians in hacking the DNC? And until last week, the answer was “no.” As ex-CIA director Mike Morell said in March, “On the question of the Trump campaign conspiring with the Russians . . . there is smoke, but there is no fire, at all. . . . There’s no little campfire, there’s no little candle, there’s no spark.” Well, last week, it appeared there had been a fire in Trump Tower. On June 9, 2016, Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort met with Russians — in anticipation of promised dirt on Hillary Clinton’s…Continue Reading

The New Cardinal From Stockholm… Receives Accolades From Many In His Country

July 20, 2017 Frontpage Comments Off on The New Cardinal From Stockholm… Receives Accolades From Many In His Country

By ALBERTO CAROSA In his homily at Santa Marta on June 26, Pope Francis called upon faithful to be open to “God’s surprises,” and certainly he knew what he was talking about, if we think at the “surprise” appointment of the first Scandinavian cardinal in the history of the Church. The bishop of Stockholm, Carmelite Anders Arborelius, an ethnic Swede who could not have been a more ideal representative of what Pope Francis uses to term the “Church of the Peripheries,” received his red hat in the consistory on Wednesday, June 28, in Rome, the eve of the solemn feast of the Apostles Peter and Paul. The Church in Sweden has been in the news on a number of occasions…Continue Reading
