Evil Is As Evil Does

By REY FLORES It’s no accident that Glamour magazine has named Bruce Jenner as the Woman of the Year. This is the latest step in normalizing the abnormal. What Glamour magazine has done is introduce what could be the next big thing in so-called women’s magazines. Who would have ever thought of a woman’s magazine for men who think they’re women? There is a market for it, a very small market at that, but we might someday see something like a Trans-Glamour magazine in the racks at your local grocery store. People can’t seem to get enough of this freakish sideshow. They used to say that sex sells, but apparently what sells now is absolute insanity. Of course the insanity…Continue Reading

One Nation Under God No More

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK I make an effort to keep up with what is being written by the journalists who focus on the difference in perspective between conservatives and liberals in the United States. For the most part, these columnists, even the best and most interesting of them, bat around the same issues. There is nothing wrong with that. It is interesting and informative to get a wide array of angles on, for example, the Keystone pipeline, President Obama’s handling of ISIS, and what Donald Trump’s candidacy means for the Republican Party. Occasionally, however, I come cross something that breaks new ground, a column that forces me to look at the world differently than before. Andrew J. Bacevich’s article…Continue Reading

11th Planned Parenthood Video . . . Shows Abortion Workers Enthusing Over “Cute” Tiny Organs

November 2, 2015 Frontpage Comments Off on 11th Planned Parenthood Video . . . Shows Abortion Workers Enthusing Over “Cute” Tiny Organs

By DEXTER DUGGAN It might seem that abortion workers who kill dozens of babies every week would lose interest in the individual characteristics of their victims, but the 11th Planned Parenthood video released by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) showed a Texas abortionist talking of a colleague’s fascination with their tiny organs. Even though pro-abortionists often try to minimize the killings by saying most abortions occur during the first trimester, the video released October 27 showed Austin, Texas, Planned Parenthood abortionist Amna Dermish, MD, freely acknowledging the development of recognizable organs then. A story posted on October 27 by the Christian Post website about the CMP video quoted Dermish saying about a co-worker: “Yeah, she’ll pull out like kidneys…Continue Reading

The Synod Final Report . . . Much That Is Good, But Humanae Vitae Needed More Emphasis

November 1, 2015 Frontpage Comments Off on The Synod Final Report . . . Much That Is Good, But Humanae Vitae Needed More Emphasis

By LOUISE KIRK ROME — When at last it came, the Family Synod’s Final Report with all its ninety-four clauses, a generous first reaction was to be impressed. This was a work pored over not only by the 270 synod fathers, but also by a host of people beavering away in the background. The last three weeks have been solid hard work, led into by the Extraordinary Synod held last year, and a lot of extra footwork was carried out between the two events. Fr. Thomas Rosica made much of all of this in introducing the final report at the press briefing covering its launch. He suggested that the whole synod process should be seen as a continuation of Vatican…Continue Reading

Synod On The Family . . . A Story That Will Be Told

October 31, 2015 Frontpage Comments Off on Synod On The Family . . . A Story That Will Be Told

By PEGGY MOEN Since the synod ended, the gloom on the blogosphere has been spreading like the onset of winter darkness. Comments from faithful Catholics on the blogosphere and elsewhere show widespead fear and discouragement over the final report of the Synod of Bishops on the Family. The Wanderer’s stand is that while the document fell short, good forces prevented an absolute disaster. Our emphasis will be on continuing the fight, rather than giving into discouragement. The discouragement centers on the final report’s treatment on Communion for the divorced-remarried, which exhibited a “lack of clarity,” as Raymond Cardinal Burke characterized it. The wording of the final synod document quotes John Paul II’s Familiaris Consortio on discernment, but does not quote…Continue Reading

Was The Synod Worth It?

October 30, 2015 Frontpage Comments Off on Was The Synod Worth It?

By JOSEPH MATT The Ordinary Synod of Bishops on the Family has drawn to an end. Was it all for naught? If one can even categorize such a thing in terms of winners and losers, the jury seems to still be out regarding the outcome of this 2015 synod. There are many comments on these pages by which one can conclude it certainly was not a success for either side. Time will tell. Some observations are quite clear. It did bring to light two distinct factions within the Church at odds with each other, in a Church where there is only one truth. Much of what bubbled to the surface during the synod has been gnawing at the Church for…Continue Reading

The Divorced-Remarried… What Can The Church Do About It?

October 29, 2015 Frontpage Comments Off on The Divorced-Remarried… What Can The Church Do About It?

By PHILIP TROWER According to what we have been reading in the press for over a year, we can be certain that one of the subjects most discussed at the recent Synod on the Family in Rome has been whether or not divorced-remarried Catholics can be allowed to receive Holy Communion. I have enough faith to believe that our Holy Father Pope Francis will never permit it. But the pressure on him to alter or relax the Church’s teaching and discipline in the matter is and has been as strong as, if not stronger than, the pressure on John Paul II during the 1980 Synod on the Family to reverse Pope Paul’s teaching about contraception. This time the proponents of…Continue Reading

“Discernment Of Spirits” At The Synod

October 28, 2015 Frontpage Comments Off on “Discernment Of Spirits” At The Synod

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK It is not a good thing that so many of us get our news these days from the Yahoo homepage that greets us when we turn on our computers in the morning, rather than a newspaper from the local newsstand. But it is a fact of life. I know that I browse the headlines that Yahoo offers even before going to my email each morning. It is too convenient a service to ignore. Yahoo gives us lots of daily junk about the Kardashians, but it also offers in capsule form the major stories of the day from the wire services. The problem is that whoever it is that puts together the Yahoo homepage gets to set…Continue Reading

Abortion Survivor Jessen . . . Says Passivity “Is Like A Cancer In Christian Community”

October 27, 2015 Frontpage Comments Off on Abortion Survivor Jessen . . . Says Passivity “Is Like A Cancer In Christian Community”

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — After warning in a talk here that the United States is at an “absolutely pivotal” moment, saline-abortion survivor Gianna Jessen told The Wanderer that the “horrendous” abortion situation continues because people have “grown somewhat indifferent and cold.” Jessen and another saline survivor, Melissa Ohden, were among the four leadoff witnesses testifying to congressional investigators in Washington, D.C., on September 9 as the Republican-led U.S. House began hearings into Planned Parenthood, prompted by sting videos from the Center for Medical Progress that underlined the abortion giant’s barbarity. Both women were aborted as babies in 1977, Jessen in southern California and Ohden in Iowa. Because Jessen was called to Capitol Hill due to the videos, The Wanderer…Continue Reading

How Media Tilt . . . Taught Pols And Others To Bury Their Consciences While Abortion Buries Babies

October 26, 2015 Frontpage Comments Off on How Media Tilt . . . Taught Pols And Others To Bury Their Consciences While Abortion Buries Babies

By DEXTER DUGGAN After three tries, a social-media reporter still couldn’t get Democrat Party national headliner Debbie Wasserman Schultz to answer the question of whether, in her opinion, her own children were human beings before birth. The conservative Media Research Center posted a video and article on October 13 showing Wasserman Schultz, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, simply avoiding answering its reporter the first two times, instead lauding “reproductive choices.” A viewer would have to conclude that the second time she was asked, Wasserman Schultz actually said she was proud to have had the opportunity to abort her three children, but chose not to. What did she believe about her own preborn children? Here’s how that response went: “That…Continue Reading
