Hermeneutic of Continuity: Pope Benedict XVI’s 10 Step Guide to Vatican II

September 14, 2014 World News Comments Off on Hermeneutic of Continuity: Pope Benedict XVI’s 10 Step Guide to Vatican II

In 2005 His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI gave a Christmas address to the Roman Curia that sparked a “Holy Revolution.” The good pontiff’s comments were received as “epoch-making” by many of those faithful to Sacred Tradition.1 At the heart of his address is the juxtaposition of the post-Vatican II Church. On one side is the hermeneutic of continuity that seeks to implement Vatican II in fidelity to Sacred Tradition, while on the other side there is the hermeneutic of discontinuity that proclaims a “new Catholicism” has risen divorced from any adherence to the “pre-Vatican II Church.” In 2013, His Holiness Pope Francis appeared to lend support to the hermeneutic of continuity. In a letter, the pope stated, “The best hermeneutics

The Satanist group that will stage a controversial “black mass” at an Oklahoma City civic center has said that all 88 tickets for its Sept. 21 event are sold out. The co-founder of the group revealed that the ritual will go ahead despite strong Christian protests and will feature a satanic exorcism, but will be “toned down” to comply with state health laws. “One of the dictates of the church is not only to educate the members but to educate the public, and to debunk the Hollywood-projected image of our beliefs,” Dakhma of Angra Mainyu’s Adam Daniels told ABC News. Catholic League Bowing Out Of New York’s St. Patrick’s Parade

September 11, 2014 World News Comments Off on Catholic League Bowing Out Of New York’s St. Patrick’s Parade

NEW YORK –  The Catholic League says it will sit out next year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York because parade organizers aren’t letting an anti-abortion Catholic group march. Catholic League head Bill Donohue said Thursday that his organization won’t participate in the March 2015 parade for the first time in 20 years. Parade organizers said last week that they would allow OUT(at)NBCUniversal to march. That’s an LGBT resource group at the company that broadcasts the parade. Gay activists say inviting the NBC employee group isn’t enough. But Donohue says parade organizers promised him that if a gay group could march under its own banner, a “pro-life” Catholic

September 11, 2014 World News Comments Off on Catholic Cardinal McCarrick Embraces Islam

Catholic Cardinal Theodore McCarrick offered Islamic religious phrases and insisted that Islam shares foundational rules with Christianity, during a Sept. 10 press conference in D.C. “In the name of God, the Merciful and Compassionate,” McCarrick said as he introduced himself to the audience at a meeting arranged by the Muslim Public Affairs Council. That praise of the Islamic deity is an important phrase in Islam, is found more than 100 times in the Koran, and is akin to the Catholic prayer, ”In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” McCarrick next claimed that “Catholic social teaching is based on the dignity of the human Read more: http://dailycaller.com/2014/09/11/catholic-cardinal-mccarrick-embraces-islam/#ixzz3D3wrjH1W

Cardinal Dolan and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade

September 9, 2014 World News Comments Off on Cardinal Dolan and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade

by Hon. Bob Marshall Sept. 8, 2014 New York’s Cardinal Dolan, appointed as Grand Marshal of the 2015 St. Patrick’s Day Parade, praised the decision to allow an openly gay group to march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. “I have no trouble with the decision at all … I think the decision is a wise one,” he said. His action has left many Catholics, including elected officials like myself, puzzled and disheartened especially when we measure Cardinal Dolan’s new policy with that of his predecessor, Cardinal O’Connor. In 1993, when LGBT groups and government officials demanded that openly homosexual groups be included in the Parade, Cardinal O’Connor vowed in a St. Patrick’s Day sermon that he “could never even be perceived as…Continue Reading

September 9, 2014 World News Comments Off on Founder: Catholic Studies programs help colleges fulfill call to faithfulness

St. Paul, Minn., Sep 8, 2014 / 06:03 pm (CNA).- University-level Catholic Studies programs are an essential response to the increasingly fragmented college experience, said the man who founded the first such program 20 years ago. “At the heart of Catholic Studies has been the encounter not merely with a set of texts, but with living Catholic minds who share in that gaudium de veritate, that joy in the truth at the heart of the life of a university, properly understood,” Dr. Don Briel told participants at a recent conference on Catholic education. The Twenty Years of Catholic Studies conference was held Aug. 29-31 in honor of Dr. Briel, who founded and spent 20 years directing the Center for Catholic…Continue Reading

A ‘dereliction of duty’? Catholics react to Cardinal Dolan’s role in St. Patrick’s Day Parade

September 7, 2014 World News Comments Off on A ‘dereliction of duty’? Catholics react to Cardinal Dolan’s role in St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s decision to act as grand marshal of the New York City St. Patrick’s Day parade despite its decision to allow an openly homosexual organization to participate has drawn strong criticism from Catholic writers and outrage from many laity. The parade announced that an LGBT organization of NBC employees, which calls itself OUT@NBCUniversal, will openly march behind a banner, marking the first time homosexuals have marched as a separate organization in the religious event intended to celebrate a beloved saint. Cardinal Dolan said the organizers had his “confidence and support” in making the change, which his predecessors had resisted for more than two de

Notre Dame Caves

September 5, 2014 World News Comments Off on Notre Dame Caves

The following comes from an Aug. 30 email from the Sycamore Trust, “alumni protecting Notre Dame’s Catholic identity.” Notre Dame is complying with the abortifacient/contraceptive mandate in renewing its student health insurance program for 2014-15. Aetna, the insurer, will now provide students with free abortifacients and contraceptives.  Moreover, the university will itself enroll all otherwise uninsured graduate and foreign students in the plan.  Notre Dame has declared in court that to do what it is doing now would be scandalous.  And it is doing this voluntarily. It could have dropped the program or switched to a self-insured program free of the mandate.
