At What Point Does Pope Francis Totally Undermine His Moral Authority?

By JOSEPH MATT

Today we have learned that Pope Francis was aware of the salacious pornographic book written by the current head of the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal Victor Fernández who was appointed for that role by the Pope himself.

LifesiteNews reported: In an interview with the online Spanish-language newspaper Religión Digital published today, Cardinal Victor Manuel “Tucho” Fernández said that he had warned his fellow Argentinian that there would be trouble about his 1998 work The Mystical Passion the second time he was offered the doctrine chief post.

“When the Pope offered me this seat for the second time, I told him this would occur, but he was already clear about that and knew the book as well,” the cardinal said. “It happens that in one instance years ago I was already accused because of this book, and I wasn’t sanctioned by Rome for it. And they investigated me long and wide.”

What Catholic father would allow his teenage daughter to have this “priest” hear her Confession or for that matter even converse with her in private – yet this man was hand-picked by the Pope himself to head the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith’ which was founded to defend the Catholic Church from heresy and is the body responsible for promulgating and defending Catholic doctrine. And just as scandalous, the same man is responsible for the blasphemous document released recently, Fiducia Supplicans. How can the Vatican continue to be so tone-deaf with just the optics alone on such an obvious scandal. Obviously, nothing has been learned from the McCarrick scandal. The fact that the Pope knew about the existence of this book before the Fernández appointment must be addressed by the hierarchy immediately to end this scandal before more moral credibility is lost.
