A Book Review . . . These Christian Realtors Show Us The True Cost

By REY FLORES

“God’s amazing grace and tender mercy saved us when we were young boys. And for the last thirty-nine years He’s built our testimony for Him — with lots of ups and downs. And during those rough times….God was right there all along, forging a ‘whatever the cost’ attitude in our hearts” — David and Jason Benham.

Whatever the Cost: Facing Your Fears, Dying to Your Dreams, and Living Powerfully is the new book written by David and Jason Benham, real estate entrepreneurs and public speakers who have truly lived up to the title of their book.

Most of you may know about the Benhams from when HGTV canceled their reality TV show, Flip It Forward, last year before it even started. The cable television network bowed down to the pressure of homosexual activist groups who took offense at some of the conservative Christian values the Benhams spoke about publicly, completely independently from the show.

Never mind that the show itself was about helping people to learn how to flip houses and improve their lives. The network showed no backbone and canceled plans to proceed with the show. At the end of the day, the Benhams were simply the latest targets of the increasing secularism that embraces anything and everything, no matter how bad or immoral, and instead persecutes God, Christianity, and morality.

“Our position remains a loving position that God defines both sexuality and family, yet we are not ‘anti-gay’ nor do we speak against homosexuals as people,” write the brothers in the new book.

“Unfortunately, propaganda works in America, and the polarized condition of our nation with animosity towards God’s standards is what we have to show for it.”

As Christians of all stripes, we are called to love our brothers and sisters, but that does not mean we also have to love the sins that enslave them. While we maintain that homosexuality is indeed against God’s plan, we must never deny human dignity to any of God’s creations. If anything, we must love them and shower them with prayers and try to lead them to our Lord’s truth.

In the book, David and Jason Benham share several stories and experiences, mainly how, despite any setbacks or difficulties, they trusted that God was in charge and found comfort and peace in that knowledge.

Throughout the book as they tell their stories, whether it was their brief time as professional baseball players in the minors or with the whole HGTV/Right Wing Watch thing, the brothers share Scripture and what I call snippets of their conversations with God. These snippets offer a great insight into the wonderful men these two guys truly are.

I recently have had the pleasure to work with them directly, as they are endorsers of American Life League’s youth outreach efforts. Just with a simple phone call and an email, the Benhams said yes to my request for them to model our National Pro-Life T-shirt and take a “selfie” photo with them wearing the shirts.

A colleague and I spent an hour at their North Carolina office shooting some photos and a brief video you can watch at www.NPLTW.com. I assure you that these men are the real deal.

David and Jason Benham are two of the finest men I have ever met. They are not afraid to pray, they are not afraid to speak the truth, they are not afraid to smile and will talk about how much they love God every chance they get. I am proud to call them friends and my brothers in Christ.

I ask that everyone reading this article please buy a copy or two of this book and share it with others in your lives. It is a lot more than the Benhams telling their story; in many ways, I have found this book to be like a manual for life that has provided me with some new inspiration, based on their words and their love for and belief in our Lord.
