Catholic Pro-Abort Claims Killing Babies Upholds “Human Dignity”

By MICAIAH BILGER

SANTA FE, N.M. (LifeNews) — Ignoring the humanity of unborn babies, a “Catholic” abortion activist defended her pro-abortion beliefs as a matter of “human dignity” in an interview last week.

Speaking with KUNM News, Catholics for Choice president Jamie Manson explained why she fights for abortion in contradiction to the teachings of the Catholic Church.

“We support abortion access because it aligns with our Catholic social justice values of human dignity and individual conscience,” she said.

Catholics for Choice joined the New Mexico Religious Coalition for Reproductive Justice in calling on state lawmakers to expand abortions, according to the report.

One bill moving through the New Mexico Legislature, House Bill 7, supposedly would protect “access to reproductive and gender-affirming health care” by prohibiting school boards, city councils, and other local governments from discriminating against people based on their “reproductive” choices.

However, state pro-life leaders said the bill actually could force teachers and school nurses to help students get secret abortions without their parents’ knowledge.

Manson and her organization support the legislation. Speaking with KUNM News, she accused many Christians and Catholic leaders of creating “silence and shame” around abortion.

“The assault we now see against reproductive freedom and LGBTQIA+ rights is the result of religious overreach led by Catholic bishops, men who will never ever be pregnant, men who have very few inroads into the lives of women,” she said.

But Manson ignored how babies in the womb also are valuable human beings who deserve to be protected. Christianity teaches that human dignity applies to all human beings, including those who are not yet born, and Christians all across the world are heavily involved in efforts to end abortion and support mothers and babies in need.

Manson’s pro-abortion organization uses the Catholic name, but it is not affiliated with the Catholic Church in any way. Its mission violates the fundamental Catholic belief that killing innocent human beings is evil.
