PHOENIX – Like many other people who don’t determine the priorities for coverage by dominant left-wing media, conservative pundit Bill Bennett was puzzled at irrational behavior in Joe Biden’s proclaimed steely fight against the COVID virus.
Commenting that 40,000 people a week come up to the southern border, Bennett said, “If this is a national emergency, why don’t you take it seriously?” Bennett wasn’t referring to the open-border crisis itself at that moment, but the fact that illegal aliens weren’t being vaccinated or screened out from being spread around the U.S. despite carrying the disease.
What a contrast with Biden’s merciless war on U.S. citizens, supposedly to stop this virus.
Bennett added, “Why is that not being paid attention to?” He made the observations during a September 12 Fox News program with media critic Howard Kurtz.
Having served as chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities and then Secretary of Education during the Reagan presidency, Bennett went on to be a daily national radio talk host for more than a decade at “Morning in America.”
Seth Leibsohn was Bennett’s radio producer and also a conservative policy leader in the nation’s capital before Leibsohn returned to his home town of Phoenix and started his own radio talk program here at KKNT (960 AM).
The Wanderer asked Leibsohn about the contrast between Biden’s locking down Americans and welcoming sick aliens without limit.
Leibsohn replied on September 14, “This administration seems to care more for non-Americans. I get they don’t like America First. That’s a tell about the Democratic Party. But I’d like to think in extremis, from war and peace to the safety of Americans, America should always be first. It isn’t. It’s a scandal.”
An often-liberal columnist at the Grand Canyon State’s largest daily newspaper, The Arizona Republic, also was puzzled over the Biden policy.
Laurie Roberts posted her Republic opinion column on September 14 to observe: “President Joe Biden is putting the hammer down on America, requiring roughly two-thirds of the country’s workers to get vaccinated or undergo weekly tests for COVID-19.
“Meanwhile,” Roberts added, “at the U.S-Mexico border there is no requirement that immigrants caught illegally crossing into the country be vaccinated — not even the migrants who are allowed to remain in the U.S. to pursue asylum. And this makes sense how?”
One might wonder if Biden preferred to use his iron fist against U.S. citizens because that serves his taste as a haughty dictator who believes that for too long he was denied the presidency by a recalcitrant electorate, but he takes advantage of using the illegal entrants to keep the U.S. in turmoil about the pandemic and thereby assist Democrats in the 2022 midterm elections.
Keenly aware about how damaged Democrats are nationally — with unmasked sports crowds around the nation even bursting into obscene chants against him — Biden may use the disease as his excuse to tamper with election procedures again, resurrecting such Democrat fraud tactics as ballot harvesting and mail-in votes for everyone.
Meanwhile, the New York Post posted on September 6 to note that Biden has no intention of stopping what he hopes to be floods of new Democrat voters.
The numbers of those being encountered by border agents, the Post said, “from all nations in Central and South America are way up — heck, they include nearly 25,000 Brazilians.
“Most are not fleeing violence,” the Post said. “Rather, reports (writer) Dave Seminara, they are ‘seeking higher-paying jobs and more generous welfare benefits and … think we’ll let them stay now that Sheriff Joe Biden is in charge.’ ”
The Wall Street Journal’s editorial view is that large-scale legal immigration is desirable, but the paper carried an opinion column by Tucson writer Leo Banks about the serious threats to this nation that Biden is causing — despite dominant-media dislike of covering the issue as a priority.
The column appeared in the Journal’s September 11-12 weekend edition and was headlined, “Arizona’s border crisis threatens public safety and health.”
“Most media step around the issue like they would a rattlesnake,” Banks wrote, going on to detail how many of the illegal crossers into just the Grand Canyon State aren’t even stopped by agents.
From October 2020 through mid-August, he wrote, “an estimated 105,000 illegal crossers have avoided capture in Border Patrol’s 262-mile Tucson sector,” based on evidence compiled by such tools as camera sightings and sensor hits, while smuggling-related vehicle accidents cause injury and death.
In southeastern Arizona’s border county of Cochise, Banks wrote, vehicle chases are up 300 percent this year, while drivers coming southward from Phoenix receive “$1,000 per person to get crossers away from the borderlands fast.”
Banks concluded that some border-area residents feel betrayed by an administration that seems to care more about illegal entrants than the safety of U.S. citizens. “Great nations don’t behave this way,” he wrote.

ist site, Mollie Hemingway, gave a speech recently contending that the U.S. is being put on a path to destruction.
“For conservatism to mean anything now, it has to be about rejecting this rigged system,” Hemingway said. “Don’t just say ‘stop.’ Our duty is to not to say ‘stop’ but then bend the knee in cowardice when the mob comes. That brings even more harm to our more vulnerable neighbors and does nothing to prevent the destruction of the country…
“The moral climate has been degraded as the left has taken over every single one of the powerful institutions in the country and is actively pushing people to lead a life of godlessness, barrenness, selfishness, gluttony, and addiction to outrage and dopamine,” she said, adding, “. . . And at some point, if more people don’t stand up and fight hard, the nation is going to die.”
In a separate article, another senior editor at The Federalist, Christopher Bedford, said there’s a difference in the way Democrats and Republicans fight for their agendas, and even though Democrats may suffer temporary setbacks, they win in the long term because they fight harder.
In Congress, Bedford posted on September 10, Democrats are willing to take some losses in their membership because the public detests what they did, such as ramming through Obamacare, but they know they’ll get a majority back some election cycles later, and Obamacare is still the law.
On the other hand, Bedford said, Republicans are afraid of offending someone or losing a few seats, so they sit on their majority until it’s yanked away, and they accomplished nothing lasting in the meantime.
Nancy Pelosi is trying to help shove some ruinous spending bills through Congress now, Bedford wrote, but even if that loses Democrats seats in the 2022 election, “well, then, who cares. Her legacy will be remaking the role of government and its interactions with an increasingly dependent class of citizens in the most major way since President Lyndon B. Johnson and his Great Society 60 years ago.”
Bedford expressed hope over “more active, populist, hard-hitting Republicans coming to the fore” these days “who want real change, not just the promise of one.”
Whether the earth will have been so scorched, and trampled beyond repair by that time, won’t matter to Democrats. If they’ve destroyed the U.S., there’s always some new dictatorship they can raise up to replace it.
