“This Is Still A Victory”. . . Fr. Pavone Welcomes SCOTUS Ruling On Texas Abortion Law

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Fr. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, made the following preliminary statement September 10 about the Supreme Court’s decision regarding enforcement of the Texas Heartbeat Law:

“We are very encouraged today that the U.S. Supreme Court has allowed the Texas Heartbeat Law to continue to stand, as it saves thousands of lives, and has both limited the lawsuits of the abortion advocates in the lower courts and has dismissed the challenge the Biden Administration made to the law. While the Court has still not heard a case on the constitutionality of the law itself, this is a victory.

“We are studying the Court’s decision in more detail, as well as the implications of lawsuits that it is allowing to continue in the lower courts against state licensing officials (but not judges and clerks).

“We also hope the Biden administration will learn a lesson that it does not have some kind of right to enforce the ‘right to abortion.’ We are the United States, and the states have the right to govern themselves. Their right to protect the unborn needs to be recognized and protected.

“We look forward to honoring the Texas legislature and all the pro-life people of Texas this January 21, the day of the March for Life in Washington, at the National Prayer Service. We will present an award to Sen. Bryan Hughes for his work on the Heartbeat Act, and we invite all pro-life people who will be coming to the March for Life to join us in thanking Texas for this law that continues to save lives despite all these challenges.”
