Wanderer Contributor Rey Flores Dies

Rey Flores, who contributed book reviews, reports, and commentaries to The Wanderer for years, died in Omaha, Neb., died on January 31. He was in hospice care with massive organ failure.

Originally from Chicago, Rey served in a number of key positions, including: Grassroots Outreach at Leadership Institute: Director of Outreach at American Life League; CCHD Director at the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Joseph Matt, publisher of The Wanderer, stated: “Rey Flores was a colorful guy who was never without a story or a strong opinion on any matter. Rey was the kind of person you wanted on your side — a natural street fighter kind of a guy who, if he liked you, would stand up for you. Rey, who found himself down on his luck more often than naught, was always quick to call upon his deep Catholic convictions in seeking solutions — a lesson we can all learn from.

“I don’t recall a conversation with Rey in which he did not mention his children. He was proud of all his kids and he loved to talk about them. He was a champion for the unborn, always eager to write a story or cover an event involving a pro-life cause. The unborn have lost a familiar voice in their earthly defense. The Wanderer and our family of readers and writers have lost a friend and a gifted writer. May God rest his soul in peace!”
