Whose Children Are They?

By BARBARA SIMPSON

As if parents didn’t have enough to worry about today in protecting their children, the politicians have gotten into the mix — again — and California is at the head of the list.

At issue is SB 107, legislation signed into law in late September by Gov. Newsom. Essentially, the measure allows California courts to take what is termed “emergency jurisdiction” of any child who comes to the state for “gender transitions.”

Essentially what this means is that the state can strip parents from any state of their custody rights if their children seek such sex mutilations in California — or even through telemedicine with a California-based doctor.

Openly “gay” State Sen. Scott Weiner, author of the bill, refers to it as a “trans state of refuge bill” so those children can come to California for treatment and not be criminalized in states that deny such surgeries and treatments.

He is quoted as saying, “Parents should never be separated from their kids or criminalized for simply allowing them to be who they are. We need to hold firm in our support for the LGBTQ community and stand with LGBTQ youth.” Weiner claims that the move by California has pushed 19 other states to propose similar measures for their jurisdictions.

Of course, he didn’t say anything about parents who do not want their children subjected to such gender changing procedures, just because the kids want it.

However, the measure allows courts to take control of the child if they want such procedures and are not able to get the cooperation and permission of their own parents or family.

So much for parental rights.

Conversely, if the child is in California with some family members who support the procedures, the law will allow them to take place, regardless of what the parents want for their child and who refuse to give their permission. In such cases, the parents can also lose permanent custody of their children and that has happened.

The bill also blocks any law from another state from being enforced if it results in a child being taken from a parent, if the parent, in that case, is forcing the child to have the gender treatments.

Parents losing rights to their children isn’t new. According to a report in LifeSiteNews, many have lost those rights by not being “affirming” enough. The Epoch Times reported about Abigail Martinez whose gender-confused daughter ultimately killed herself after being remanded to state custody.

Martinez unsuccessfully fought the Los Angeles school system and Child Services Department over the case. She reported she was visited repeatedly by pro-trans groups who told her to “have a funeral for your daughter and adopt your son. She was also told not to talk about God. She said, they told her if you do that, you’ll never see your daughter.”

They were right. Her daughter killed herself.

It’s been reported parents have endured similar ordeals concerning their children in Chicago, Cincinnati, and Dallas. Such situations are not unusual, and it seems there will be more.

According to the Heritage Foundation, if Democrats get and keep a majority in Congress, they will pass their pro-LGBT Equality Act. Heritage says that it “could lead to more prosecutions against parents who refuse to aid in the sterilization of their children.”

If you think that gender issues are the only ones that affect parental rights, think again. A poll taken in January, showed that approximately one-third of Democratic voters agree with removing children from unvaccinated parents. Apparently, some judges have done just that. In addition, polls have shown that liberals openly describe raising children according to Christian beliefs as a form of child abuse. How this might play out in reality remains to be seen.

With measures on various ballots around the country that deal with issues like this, we are facing the reality that the law is gradually infringing on the right of parents to keep and raise their own children. It is an issue that I would wager no average person even considered until now. Yet, we are seeing that it may come to pass nationally and if the move by California is any measure, it is already here.

Gov. Newsom is proud of the fact that his state is a haven for “gay rights” — and judging by the direction he is taking, this is just the beginning. I shudder to think how it will end.
