Will The Real Catholics Please Stand Up?

By TOM TAKASH

If we were to bring Catholic members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives together in one room and then ask them to stand up if they’re pro-life, we would most likely see almost all, if not all of them, proudly rise to their feet. If we were then to question them as to whether they had ever supported or voted in favor of any pro-abortion legislation in the past, and if they had done so to please take their seat again, few would remain standing, and some of those still standing would hope that no one would actually check their voting records.

Among those who sat down again, upon questioning them as to motive, we would likely get one of two answers: The often-told argument that “Who am I to tell others what they can and cannot do in our secular society? Just because I, as ‘a faithful Catholic,’ believe that abortion is evil that does not give me the right to create laws that force a woman to give birth to a child that she didn’t plan to have and doesn’t want.”

Others would simultaneously defend their “pro-life” beliefs and then contradict themselves, with the argument that in certain cases there are exceptions, and in those cases, deciding to abort a child is actually not wrong, i.e., in cases where the mother’s life is in danger, or when a woman has become pregnant after being raped, or a child is impregnated after sexual relations with a relative.

These arguments, while heard often, never address the truth. Abortion always murders a child, regardless of circumstances. If you are pro-life, you cannot give permission for some children to be put to death. God gave us the Ten Commandments. The fifth one, “Thou shall not kill” has no asterisk. There are no exceptions. A living child of God dies a gruesome death in each and every abortion. Claiming to honor the rights of others, at the expense of the unborn, these “Catholic” Washington, D.C., elites, glad-hand each other, as they close their eyes to the truth. They bathe in the attention of the media and often provide cover for their guilty consciences by touting their support for “social justice,” as in, Medicare for All, expansion of welfare, and opening the border to more of the needy.

The idea that we can ignore the murder of an unborn child by promoting better lives for others is absurd. The truth is that these cowards promote death for God’s children because of personal greed and the desire for continual power. They fear retribution from our “Catholic” Puppet President, Joe Biden, and other “Catholic” Party leaders, (Nancy Pelosi, et al.) who have long ago sold their souls in exchange for their positions. Knowing that if they voted as pro-life Catholics, these faint-of-heart legislators would be exposing themselves to fierce negative pressure from the pro-abortion giants.

Even worse, they fear losing their pro-abortion campaign money. Planned Parenthood alone received over 633 million dollars in taxpayer funding last year; our money that can used to help ensure the election of those who will support their most important plan, the killing of our children.

And without that money, their prestigious positions would be gone, and they would have to leave their world of “make-believe.” And to claim that they would be imposing their private religious beliefs on others by attempting to save the innocent babies in the womb is, in fact, rationalization at its worst! In the recesses of their minds, these spineless hacks must know this. They just refuse to face reality.

But the real tragedy is not just their cowardice. Unfortunately, we have come to expect lack of character in many of our “Catholic” politicians. The real catastrophe is that they have seldom forced to confront the betrayal of their Catholic faith. While the pro-life laity and a relatively few brave clerics have prayed for them and called for them to stand up for truth, the majority of the U.S. Catholic clergy have remained silent until very recently, and their silence has been deafening!

But with the brazen activity of our “Catholic” pro-abortion politicians since the overturning of Roe v. Wade this past June, we are finally witnessing some very positive leadership from many of our bishops. Just this past October 25, as reported in an article by Micaiah Bilger of LifeNews in the November 3 issue of The Wanderer, Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore described pro-abortion legislation proposed by Biden as “child sacrifice.” He struck home by adding that such legislation would be expected “from a devout Satanist, not a devout Catholic.” (Did you hear that, Joe?) This archbishop, as chair of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, speaks with authority.

Add to Lori’s charge, Archbishop Cordileone’s recent ban of Nancy Pelosi from receiving the Eucharist in his diocese, and a very harsh warning to priests throughout the country from Archbishop Charles Chaput, OFM Cap., and we have real support for our unborn from courageous prelates. In case you haven’t read Chaput’s stern warning, and it’s hard to imagine that it could be more explicit, read it now. Archbishop Chaput said that Joe Biden “is not in Communion with the Catholic faith” and that “any priest who now provides Communion to the president participates in his hypocrisy.” Italics mine.

Most of these pro-abortion “Catholic” politicians are fully in sync with Biden and have defied the Church by continuing to receive the Body and Blood of Our Lord while promoting the slaughter of our children. Their actions are no different than Biden’s. The priests who provide the Eucharist to them should reflect on Chaput’s warning and step up for life regardless of the possible repercussions.

It’s beyond reasonable to believe that any of our over 37,000 clergy in our country are unaware that President Biden, Speaker of the House Pelosi, the Senate Majority Party Whip Dick Durbin, along with this many other “Catholic” senators and nearly 60 “Catholic” members of Pelosi’s House of Representatives, consistently support legal abortion and routinely provide government funding for the murder of our unborn babies.

We have needed Catholic leadership who won’t just provide lip service in defense of life. They must walk the talk for our children twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. It is urgent that all of them immediately speak out at every Catholic conference, in every newspaper, on every television network, and from every pulpit, seven day a week, in complete and unqualified defense of life, and condemn each and every politician who claims to be Catholic but who votes as an agent of Satan for death to our unborn.

Anything short of this is unacceptable to Our Lord, Jesus Christ and to His Mother, Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Unborn!

It’s time for every priest throughout the country to pray for courage and be heard. It’s a disservice to every priest’s Ordination, a disservice to the Catholic laity and a disservice to all pro-abortion “Catholic” politicians themselves, to ignore their combined slap in the Catholic Church’s face. A priest shames his priesthood by failing to absolutely support the right to life for each and every child in the womb. The lay faithful more than ever need to hear Catholic Truth, and those pro-abortion “Catholic” politicians deserve to receive corrective teaching even if they choose to close their eyes and cover their ears.

And, even if priests throughout the country have not heard the voices of their bishops in their individual dioceses that does not excuse them from teaching the Truth. Praying for an end to abortion, praying for the election of real pro-life politicians, and praying for protection of life from conception to natural death should be among the Prayers of the Faithful at every single Mass celebrated in our country.

Every parish should have a Life Office. Every priest or deacon who gives a homily should insist that every parishioner who intends to receive the Eucharist that day should make a silent promise to Jesus through Mary to always vote for candidates who are 100 percent pro-life. There should be no qualifier. The parish should teach without reservation that if a parishioner cannot make that commitment, he or she should refrain from receiving Communion until they can. No if, ands, or buts about it.

One might argue that such a position will only offend otherwise good Catholic parishioners who regularly vote for a Joe Biden or a Nancy Pelosi. We must never forget that: “We get the public officials we deserve. Their virtue — or lack thereof — is a judgment not only on them, but on us” (Living the Gospel of Life, n. 34). The risk of alienating those who support candidates who promote abortion is worth the potential result. Saving their souls and shining light on those who promote the killing of the unborn, is infinitely more important than walking softly to maintain the goodwill of our fellow parishioners.

And let’s hope no priest is concerned about losing anyone’s financial support, by ignoring the fact that some parishioners favor abortion. I will never forget a priest who I once heard asking his parishioners to commit to donations for a new church, and then passionately added, “But if you support abortion, keep your money. I don’t want it.” That priest was living his vocation!

Speak The Truth

Sadly, not all bishops worldwide are on board with bringing up Church teaching, and instead are frightened at the possibility that they have offended the sheep they are supposed to tend. Recently, Bishop Ray Browne, bishop of Kerry, Ireland, suspended a priest, Fr. Sean Sheehy, from saying the Mass for proclaiming the truth about abortion, contraception, and sodomite relations. Apparently, several of the congregation heckled the priest and walked out. It seems that the good Father dared to tell his flock that the government’s rampart legislation favoring these sins is wrong!

Not only did the bishop suspend him, but he issued a formal apology to members of Sheehy’s parish who may have been offended by the sermon. After apologizing to the offended flock, the bishop added that “the views expressed do not represent the Christian position” and the message was “not appropriate for a regular weekend parish Mass.” When, one might ask the bishop, is it appropriate? During a Church picnic, bingo, or never?

Teaching those in error to turn away from false prophets is the obligation of every bishop, every priest, every deacon, and every lay Catholic. We owe them the truth, even if no one wants to hear it. We should always remember the biblical verse of Jer. 5:21: “Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding, which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not.” Or to put it in modern words, “There are none so blind as those who will not see.”

But no matter their obstinance, our obligation to speak the truth remains. If some of our clergy and many of our fellow laity will not open their eyes to the plight of our unborn, we still have to stay the course, regardless of the consequences. If we give up, whether from frustration, or from the desire to be accepted, we should ask Nancy and Joe to move over, because we will have to take our seats in shame alongside all the weak and frightened pro-abortion “Catholic” politicians.
