Abolish The CCHD

By REY FLORES

Heads up, folks! Once again that old turkey known as the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is descending upon us, reaching into our pockets to help fortify Saul Alinsky’s disciples across the land.

The collection baskets will be passed around a second time asking us to support a variety of organizations that claim to be helping the poor in all sorts of ways. In some parishes, you may even be treated to a guest speaker at Mass who is trained to tug at your heartstrings with one hand, while reaching for your wallet with the other.

No matter how many times many people have investigated, reported, and written countless articles about this campaign, many continue to support it, trusting that the bishops have finally learned their lesson.

I’m afraid to say that this is not the case and perhaps never will be. Not as long as we have so many pastors out across the land who are more community organizers than priests.

If your cup of tea is to support leftists in the ghettos and barrios of America, by all means dump your hard-earned cash into this losing proposition.

Yes, the CCHD is a dream come true for those Catholic brethren of ours who drive around with Obama bumper stickers on their cars and National Public Radio on their radio dial.

Are there any good programs that the CCHD helps? The answer is yes, but the bad organizations far outweigh the good ones. For every good worker rights program that might actually help low-wage workers recover unpaid wages from an abusive employer, there are more that are out there taking your CCHD donations to register Democratic Party voters.

Make no mistake about it and don’t listen to a word any of the do-gooder social justice flunkies tell you. The CCHD is a rotten apple in the USCCB barrel that is run by people who seem to have little interest in ever changing the way it conducts its operations.

This is all about money and the community organizations that have been on the CCHD dole for decades are not about to let that money go.

This past year, United Power for Action and Justice received a $20,000 grant from the CCHD in Chicago. United Power for Action and Justice is busy on a rabid anti-gun campaign that misses its target by a mile.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again — the reason why there are so many shootings in Chicago is not because we have a gun problem, but rather a sin problem!

Instead of these do-gooder priests rabble-rousing on the streets, they should be in a confessional every day, teaching the souls they are in charge of about why their lives are riddled with bullets, violence, and despair.

I have had a recurring conversation with several colleagues of mine about the CCHD and other troublesome programs like Catholic Relief Services (CRS) as well. Just how many times can we write about this problem before people get it?

Some people just don’t care either way and continue to give to these campaigns despite whatever many of us have exposed about these programs. The real problem is that some people are complicit with these activities and will do absolutely nothing to change things.

If anything, they will dig their heels even deeper into the ground in their determination to keep fleecing the Church to pay for their immoral and wrongheaded activities. Saul Alinsky would be proud.

It is high time we cleaned house and threw the leftist agitators out of our parishes and dioceses! Nothing less than a complete abolishment of the CCHD will do.

Please share this information with as many people as possible. I encourage you to print or cut this article out, make copies, and get the copies to your friends.

Say no to the CCHD!
