Afghan Tragedy Shrivels Prez . . . Will Biden Be Diminished Enough Now For Bishops To Rebuke Him?

By DEXTER DUGGAN

Would Joe Biden’s newly diminished public image make him realize that he no longer should get away with his public pose of being a practicing Catholic and his sacrilege of receiving the Eucharist while energetically promoting the Culture of Death internationally?

Although Biden’s physical and moral impairment already were plain to those who cared about what mattered, dominant leftist media mainly still had portrayed him as a capable politician and admirable man. And these foes of traditional morality were charmed by the notion they could portray his sacrilege as acceptable Catholicism.

But even they gave up the pretense about Biden’s capability and talent over the specific issue of his surrendering Afghanistan to the barbarity of the Taliban in mid-August.

Not only did Biden make no military fight or even try to, but he allowed tens of billions of dollars of U.S. fighting equipment to fall into their war-making hands, while innocent people fell behind enemy lines.

If it had been left to him, he would have continued to spend frequent time in seclusion away from the White House, for whatever mysterious reasons, but the severity of this matter forced even Biden to make some limited public remarks. Still, the rear of his torso as he departed from reporters remained a familiar sight.

Afghanistan was becoming a new staging area for terrorists to train and launch their attacks against the rest of the world, just as they had against the United States exactly 20 years ago, on 9/11.

U.S. allies were shocked at Biden’s surrender and official American unreliability. They wondered what kind of different world they’d be coping with as terrorists crowed in triumph, while deadly enemies like Communist China looked forward to exploiting new opportunities.

Biden’s government even feared to recognize China as the origin of the serious virus that wracked the world for well over a year. A mere accidental release of the virus would have revealed the Communist totalitarianism as more than careless. And what if it was intentional biological warfare? Feeble Biden didn’t want to hear a word of that.

A man who lived in cognitive decline, Biden even lied about the allied nations actually having urged him to extend the U.S. withdrawal date from Afghanistan so Americans and those who’d assisted them could be better extricated from behind enemy lines.

He had showed no good sense about the necessity to remove civilians before the military left the country, and he didn’t even snap out of his delusions as desperate people continued to crowd outside Kabul’s main airport, seeking to flee.

Various critics described Biden’s failure here as one of the worst ever for the nation. An editorial posted August 24 by the New York Post concluded:

“Whether he’s being stubborn, having a prolonged senior moment or really fears the Taliban, Biden is guaranteeing that thousands of innocents, including hundreds of American citizens, will be left to the Taliban’s un-tender mercies. This will go down as one of the most shameful moments in U.S. history.”

Against this backdrop, would U.S. Catholic prelates officially regard the diminished Biden as someone to whom necessary discipline could be applied, rather than as a potent politician who many of them — including in his home Diocese of Wilmington, Del., and national Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. — had feared to act against?

If bishops didn’t get blunt with Biden about his need to reform, what motivation would he have? He deadened his conscience long ago.

The Wanderer asked Moira Sheridan, the president of Delaware Right to Life, if she thought the Wilmington Diocese or U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops might be more likely to take a tougher line against Biden now.

She replied succinctly on August 25: “Not a chance.”

Sheridan is familiar with Biden escaping rebuke by the local Church while practicing sacrilege in his home diocese.

In June the USCCB voted to have a statement drafted for debate in November about unworthy reception of the Eucharist. It was anticipated to apply broadly to Catholic politicians, not only Biden.

The Wanderer also asked a woman at the opposite side of the country from Delaware’s Sheridan the same question, about whether she thought prelates might be more likely to take a tougher line against Biden now.

Ann Howard, an Arizona Catholic, replied on August 25 by first noting other damage Biden did.

“We all know that Biden is running roughshod over America’s economy with rising inflation; over Americans’ livelihoods, with a deluge of immigrants taking Americans’ jobs; over the military and the diplomatic corps with his callous disregard for Americans and allies in Afghanistan,” Howard said.

“He is stomping on the Church, which teaches the right to life of the unborn, by allowing the slaughtering of the foreign unborn, with deletion of the Hyde Amendment, and support for Planned Parenthood in America,” Howard said. “His critics are growing in diversity, number and intensity. He is weak with abuse of power.

“Biden needs to be reminded of his duty to serve, not destroy,” she said. “In my opinion, the bishops should discipline him by the vigorous use of Canon 915 and publicly refuse him access to the Eucharist now.”

Canon 915 of the Church’s Code of Canon Law includes the provision that the Eucharist should be denied to those who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin.

“After all,” Howard said, “if the bishops can tell us which vaccines developed with fetal cells from aborted babies not to take, they certainly can withhold the Eucharist from any public figure who promotes the abortions which involve the same fetal cells.”

Although even dominant media treated Biden’s abandonment of Afghanistan as worthy of strong condemnation, it seemed that mainly conservative commentators were the ones calling for his resignation or removal from office.

When Donald Trump was president, it seemed almost a daily warning by dominant media that “the walls are closing in” on him, but Biden seemed immune to the wall-tightening disease in their eyes.

However, wasn’t Biden’s blithering failure here a serious warning to everyone that it was too dangerous to have him continue in the presidency? What even worse international tragedies may lie ahead due to such ills as Biden’s stubbornness, his deceit, his highly excessive self-esteem, and his cognitive decline?

This, after all, is still a nuclear age. It’s simply a factual description, not an insult, to describe Biden as an old fool. What disasters may explode from his muddled mind? Or how unwisely could he react if, say, terrorists he has empowered spring a major assault on the U.S. or its allies?

For the U.S.’s own survival, wouldn’t one expect a media drumbeat that he be removed? Interestingly, though, his immediate replacement in the line of succession, left-wing Vice President Kamala Harris, didn’t seem to be that popular with some influential media, even though they’d seem likely to put up with a lot about her, in service to their shared ideology.

In addition to Harris’ own obvious liabilities and awkwardness, had Biden’s staff sowed a bad reputation for her as a way to ensure that Biden remained president?

Beyond the vice president, conservatives would find no glee in the liberal Democrat names in the line of succession, but liberals likely could accept anyone here, even though advanced age or lack of luster dimmed many of these potential presidents, from Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Sen. Patrick Leahy to Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, and so on.

When listing members of Congress, it’s customary to put a “D” or “R” after their names to denote their political party, but former Sen. Biden had at least four “D’s” — in addition to Democrat, there was Death, Destruction, and Depravity. In other words, his party platform. But Biden was taking the immorality to an even lower level.

He really seemed intent on remaking the U.S. from a worthwhile place to a supine socialist swamp.

The “war room” in the White House wasn’t where international defense was planned, but the passage of staggering new trillions of dollars of spending in legislation that wasn’t even to be debated, and that lumped all sorts of unrelated topics into one huge, unconstitutional blob.

The galloping inflation, the unmanageable debt, the crippling federal intrusions were among the elements that would leave gaping wounds all over the national and individual souls.

As Biden was busy destroying the U.S. on the international scene, he continued burying this nation under massive illegal immigration that even his secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, recently confided privately to his agents was unsustainable to U.S. survival.

When the U.S. Supreme Court on August 24 ordered Biden’s government to reinstate President Trump’s highly effective “Remain in Mexico” policy while asylum-seekers’ requests are weighed, the lawless Biden administration was likely to do all it could to avoid complying.

On August 25 the Washington Examiner cited a former top border official saying that “instead of implementing the Mexico policy as ordered by the Court, it is likely that the Biden administration will ‘slow roll’ any change and blame Mexico for any problems.”

The border threat only grew worse when jailed terrorists far off in Afghanistan were released by the triumphant Taliban.

On August 24 the Washington Free Beacon site posted an article warning of the added threat, quoting a Department of Homeland Security official:

“We’ve always been surprised by the countries of origin we see individuals coming from along our Southwest border. It’s more than likely some Afghans will arrive now as well. . . . It’s definitely a national security threat, and the strain of forces currently along the border would make it more likely that some would slip through illegally.”

On every front, Biden plotted to demoralize U.S. citizens while incentivizing those who wished this nation harm, or at least hoped to assert their unfair privilege.

U.S. citizens had to pay their taxes and wear their masks no matter how unlikely it was they would catch the virus. But illegal aliens were welcomed here to live off the taxpayers and freely spread their COVID-19 everywhere.

The Ruling Class

An article posted August 24 at The Federalist site said U.S. “garbage elites” think they deserve to rule over the rest of us, and the only way they’ll depart is for us to throw them out.

The article was titled, “America’s failure in Afghanistan is a call to ordinary Americans to clean house.” It said in part:

“Like with the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan, our defeat there has exposed the nation’s failed leadership busy looting and wrecking what is left of our country. We can now see that we are led by the worst of humanity — a collection of garbage elites, tyrants, and political grifters. Like the Soviets before us, there are two only two classes in modern America: the ruling class, and everyone else.”

One easily could think of recent parties of wealthy Democrat hypocrites maskless, not socially distanced, enjoying their privilege — prominent among them Nancy Her Highness Pelosi at a Napa fund-raiser, and Barack Obama celebrating his 60th birthday.

But, as The Federalist article noted, it’s not only Democrats. “This is an America versus the uniparty of failed elites thing.”

Who, after all, has been another strong foe of conservatives but the professional GOP establishment that did all it could to destroy the Tea Party, Donald Trump, anyone who wasn’t among the Republican in-crowd of losers whose goal is just to keep themselves well off?

Posting at The American Spectator on August 24, commentator Jeffrey Lord, a former aide to Ronald Reagan, recalled that back in the 1930s a prominent British politician was disdained for being out of touch with the times and should be best forgotten.

His name was Winston Churchill, and it turned out that he was just what Britain needed after the smart people had brought that land to the edge of ruin.

Lord suggested there’s a parallel now with another leader who was booted from the scene as being useless but will be called upon again. His name is Donald Trump.
