Are We Facing The Complete Loss of Innocence?

By REY FLORES

It’s Girl Scout Cookie time again as I write this, but this column isn’t about cookies. It’s about how we as individuals and as a society have made the country an almost completely unsafe and dangerous place for children. We have failed our children in so many respects, and as Christians, we all know about that millstone around our necks.

With every generation that comes, we have lowered the bar every time, almost as if we were enjoying the downward spiral as if it were some kind of twisting waterslide. The thing about this whirlpool is that it is the flushing of our entire civilization down the toilet.

When I see those little girls and their parents outside the local grocery store, peddling their cookies in order to raise money for whatever project their troop is working on, I can’t help thinking about Planned Parenthood (PP).

Those Planned Parenthood demons, purveyors of perversion and death, have not only stuck their greedy meat hooks into the flesh of unborn children, but they have also now stuck them into the souls of the hundreds of thousands of little girls who are members of the Girls Scouts of America (GSA).

And it’s not just the GSA and PP, it’s everything else too. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA), the National Education Association (NEA), the United States government, the so-called entertainment industry, and, even worse, the homosexual and other infiltrators inside the Catholic Church.

There appears to be no safe place, or “safe space” — as today’s wimpy snowflakes like to say. Children of the world today have had it all, but their purest innocence has been stolen. We have allowed this by not being stronger, not standing firmer, and not listening to God.

Like the GSA Cookies, we live in a world of pop culture trash, like the HBO two-part documentary Leaving Neverland highlighting the story of two men who allege that they were sexually molested by the late pop singer Michael Jackson when they were just little boys. The show has been making headlines since its premiere on the cable network a few weeks back.

I always found it interesting how Michael Jackson was always portrayed by the media as some kind of modern-day saint who loved children, and who even named his Hollywood estate after the Neverland in the Peter Pan children’s stories. While acquitted on some charges, it turns out that there are out-of-court multimillion-dollar settlements with the parents who essentially pimped their own children to Jackson. He loved children all right; it appeals that he loved to abuse them.

Speaking of settlements, I cannot tell you the disgust I feel at the homosexual infiltrator priests who tainted and soiled our seminaries and the priesthood with their perversions and filth. Pair the actual horrible crimes committed by these homosexual fake clergy with the demonic fake news media, and you’ve got headlines that sell every time. There’s nothing as salacious and gratifying to the secular, anti-Catholic pop culture than a good old-fashioned clergy sexual abuse story.

I have to ask just how many of these accusations are just that. Just how many dollar signs do some greedy lawyers see when some person claims to have been sexually abused by a clergyman?

It appears that with new anti-Catholic persecutorial laws being passed in state after state, just about any Tom, Dick, or Harry can fabricate some tale of woe, one that may not have ever occurred, yet receive the full benefit of the doubt, while an innocent clergyman will automatically have his faculties taken away, be removed from his current post, and then be banished into some reeducation facility.

Barring the very traditional home-schooled families who thankfully keep their children away from the scourge of the Internet and popular culture, most Catholic kids today are bombarded with not just sexually explicit content on what’s supposed to be “acceptable” entertainment, but with agendas and narratives which promote homosexuality as well.

If we as Catholic parents can demonstrate to our own children more pious examples through our own actions, words, and behaviors, perhaps they will have a fighting chance. Despite Satan’s every effort to use the modernist tools of today’s society, we can counteract him by remaining true to our spouses and families.

As fathers, we must abstain from any behaviors which give a poor example to our sons and daughters. Even through marriage and family trials and separations, parents must remain united and on the same page when it comes to forming their children in the faith.

We must not only teach them to be saints, we must also strive to be saints and warriors ourselves, as an example to them. I know I have a lot of work to do in this department, and I pray fervently that God gives me the opportunity to make up for lost time and opportunities with my family.

Yes, despite the bleak outlook, there is still a chance for our children to come out of this perhaps not unscathed, but with as little damage as possible so that they too one day may be able to raise their children in the faith.

It’s spiritually and psychologically hard for children and young people today. They are reading headlines about clergy abuse scandals, watching politicians lie as if their political lives depended on it (which they do), and witnessing the ongoing destruction of one-honorable and good institutions like the GSA and the BSA. It’s extremely difficult, but if you are a younger person reading this, do not despair; remember that Jesus died on that cross for you and me, and He is always triumphant.

Are we truly living in an age of complete and total loss of innocence? Not entirely yet. But if we do not step up and get busy removing that huge plank from our own eye, how do we ever expect to effectively bring other souls into God’s Kingdom with us?
