Biden Defies Dobbs Verdict

On July 8, in response to the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, Joe Biden signed an executive order “to defend reproductive rights.” The Dobbs decision “will disproportionately affect women of color, low-income women, and rural women,” the White House alleged, implying that Catholic Joe wants to make sure those communities get as many abortions as possible.

And to drive its message home, in the cause of “protecting Medication Abortion . . . [and] Access to Contraception,” the Executive Order enlists a nationwide army of lawyers and federal bureaucrats that Biden will command in every state to promote abortion, whatever that state’s law might say.
Remember Obama’s “HHS Mandate” and the havoc it caused, the harassment of groups like the Little Sisters of the Poor? The expenses that were required to fight it in court?
Here we go again.
Biden’s Executive Order calls for an “interagency” effort to direct the abortion effort throughout the country. That means that the Departments of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services will join the Department of Justice, the FBI, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Federal Trade Commission to harass and hector pro-lifers in every city and town in America.
Somehow they forgot Pete Buttigieg.
The Executive Order instructs Attorney General Garland and the White House Counsel to organize “private pro bono attorneys, bar associations, and public interest organizations in order to encourage lawyers to represent and assist patients, providers, and third parties lawfully seeking these services throughout the country.”
In other words, Biden is directing the attorney general to politicize America’s entire legal community and sic them on us.
A day later, on July 9, Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, issued a statement condemning Biden for using his office “to promote and facilitate abortion in our country, seeking every possible avenue to deny unborn children their most basic human and civil right, the right to life. Rather than using the power of the executive branch to increase support and care to mothers and babies, the president’s executive order seeks only to facilitate the destruction of defenseless, voiceless human beings.”
When Biden issued a second executive order on August 5 aimed at making it easier to travel to receive an abortion, Chairman Lori spoke out again:
“It is the wrong direction to take at a moment when we should be working to support women and to build up a culture of life. I continue to call on the President and all our elected officials to increase support and care to mothers and babies, rather than facilitate the destruction of defenseless, voiceless human beings. Blessed Virgin Mary, patroness of our nation, intercede for us as we advocate to protect human life and work toward solutions that will help every mother and child flourish.”
Meanwhile, The Washington Post’s “very devout Catholic” is praying the rosary to invoke our Lady’s help in destroying more unborn children.
Strange.
Archbishop Lori did not address Biden’s radical defiance of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs. Nor did he criticize “Catholic Joe” for his defiance of the laws of nature and of nature’s God. Unfortunately, America’s bishops have always been more than reluctant in criticizing Biden and his fellow Catholic Democrats on Capitol Hill for their murderous campaign.
But it’s a different story when it comes to the Democrats’ domestic agenda.

When the Senate approved the “Inflation Reduction Act” last weekend, Kamala Harris’ vote as presiding officer was required to break the tie vote — 50 Democrats for, 50 Republicans against.
And who was the Democrats’ biggest fan?
That’s right. Archbishop Paul Coakley of Oklahoma City, chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development.
“I am grateful to the Senate for their efforts to support the environment and lower drug prices through the Inflation Reduction Act,” he wrote. “It is also prudent that this legislation contains revenue provisions to offset the investments when concerns around inflation and the economy are high. Climate change is a global challenge that requires courageous, long-term action from Congress, and I am grateful for the many substantial climate provisions that bring the United States closer to honoring its emissions reductions goals under the Paris Agreement, which Pope Francis has strongly encouraged us to meet. This is a meaningful effort to care for our common home. Provisions in this package will help to curb greenhouse gas emissions while seeking to safeguard the economy and give preference to the poor.”
Note the embrace not only of the Democrat agenda, but of the agenda’s Orwellian lexicon as well.
Higher taxes on the middle class are “revenue provisions,” while voting on the bill without any hearings that no one had read was “prudent.” Printing $700 billion in new money “reduces inflation,” while Americans are already suffering from real inflation that’s at ten percent and rising fast.
Higher energy prices will “support the environment,” and the “Paris Agreement” is like unto Pachamama (even if the Chicoms blow it off, while they build more new coal-fired power plants than the rest of the world combined). Everyday weather is now “Climate Change,” so handing out hundreds of taxpayer billions to Dem-friendly “green energy” outfits are “investments” that will “give preference to the poor” — the poor who in the real world are already suffering most when faced by cost hikes for basic necessities like lodging, food, heating, cooling, and travel — none of which cost hikes will be lowered by Coakley’s marvelous bill, and all of which have been caused by the Democrats in the first place.
Most chilling is the legislation’s doubling the size of the IRS with the creation of 87,000 new agents, all of whom, according to a public IRS recruitment ad that was later withdrawn, “must be comfortable carrying a firearm and, if necessary, use deadly force.”
And what will these 87,000 heavily-armed Stasi-knockoffs do to “reduce inflation”?
They will enlist with the other platoons to march with Biden’s Interagency Abortion Army that is going to invade the country looking for incorrigible pro-lifers and other beleaguered Deplorables to boss around, torment, and intimidate.
Archbishop Lori urges Biden to respect life, but he makes no reference to the radical and anti-constitutional measures Joe has taken — including his transformation of the federal justice system into an attack weapon for his political hacks to use against the opposition party.
Not so Archbishop Coakley. He is tuned in to every note in the Democrat Doggerel Dirge.
Instead, the USCCB’s “domestic justice” champion cheers the Democrat left’s radical agenda that will further impoverish and subjugate Americans.
That campaign is already well under way. It is designed to expand and consolidate power, but also to provoke random reaction and opposition that can serve as useful propaganda for the imposition of more power.
Unfortunately, America’s Catholic hierarchy is AWOL, or worse, in all this.
Alas, it’s an obdurate performance that history has witnessed all too often.
