No, the melee at the Capitol on January sixth.
Or so brayed Joe Biden in his speech to Congress on Wednesday, April 28.
It went downhill from there. “America is rising anew,” he said.
No, not America. The government. An extra six trillion dollars’ worth.
Whoever Joe Biden is working for, it isn’t the American people. This year will bring “the fastest pace of economic growth in this country in nearly four decades.” Joe takes the credit, ignoring how the best economic growth in history under Trump was trashed by lockdowns that destroyed millions of jobs and thousands of businesses nationwide.
But Joe will create a million new government jobs, just like Obama did — remember “shovel ready”? — and he’ll spend your money to control everyone from three-year-olds to college students. So what if our grandchildren will be stuck with the bill, plus interest?
And the rest of us will pay as well: Expect Big Government Biden to bring back inflation matching that of the Democrat binge years of 1975-1980.
“I’ve lied all my life,” said Monica Lewinsky, Bill Clinton’s “that woman.” Joe’s career resonates Monica’s mantra, and his speech Wednesday was no exception. Even The Washington Post knows it. The “Billionaire’s Blog,” owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, had sustained a constant barrage of hatred towards Donald Trump since 2016 with a presidential “fact check” department.
The Post conveniently retired that operation the week before Biden’s speech.
The New York Times joined in, announcing it would close down the op-ed page it established 51 years ago as a response to Spiro Agnew hectoring them as purveyors of “the nattering nabobs of negativism.”
No longer needed.
Censorship is easy, right? So now it’s a “fact” that China Joe, bought and paid for by the CCP, has stood up to Party leader Xi Jinping.
Fat chance. And “let’s end cancer as we know it. It’s within our power” — the government’s power, that is.
The government is now America. It won’t cure cancer, but it might well kill us.
Consider: Joe’s the most pro-abortion president in history. He didn’t bring that up, of course, but he did canonize George Floyd. And the big bucks? “These are the investments we make together, as one country, and that only government can make.”
Another lie — as Ronald Reagan told Walter Mondale, “There you go again.” The government can’t spend any money it doesn’t first take from us and our children. Joe ignored America’s real problems because he’s part of them. Instead, he smugly tells us he’s taking six trillion dollars of our money to pay off every failed Democrat grifter in America.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) tersely summed up Biden’s speech: “Boring, but radical.”
Catholic Stuff
At their annual meeting this June, America’s bishops are expected to issue an “instruction” on the reception of the Eucharist, in a feeble attempt to explain away Wilton Gregory’s refusal to apply Canon 915 to Joe Biden.
Whatever they do, whatever they say, rest assured: It will be meaningless.
Remember the bishops’ urgent “prime mandate” on abortion for the 2020 election? Bishop Michael Burbidge, the USCCB Communications chairman, used our donations to fund the conference’s “Faithful Citizenship” campaign, and then allowed his staff to kill off that “abortion is our preeminent issue” baby in the crib.
This summer they’ll do it again — they love Joe Biden, and they literally swoon over Kamala.
The rot continues.
On Tuesday, April 27, Wisconsin’s Democrat Attorney General Josh Kaul “announced his decision to investigate clergy sexual assault across Wisconsin’s five Catholic dioceses.” Kaul “was flanked by Catholic clergy abuse survivors who praised him for undertaking the review,” the AP reports. Diocesan officials quickly questioned the decision, but there’s not much that they can do about it.
That’s because there are now 23 states conducting such investigations. The record shows that their purpose is primarily to intimidate Catholic bishops from speaking out and acting in accordance with their consecrated duties. The tactic has succeeded. Our bishops bowed to Caesar and Catholics were locked out of the Mass — many still are — for the first time in American history.
Now backed by the raw power of the Obama-Harris-Biden administration, Democrats have sent a message to America’s Catholic prelates to lock down and shut up — or else. Unfortunately, those threats have been remarkably effective, and no Thomas Mores and Bishop John Fishers have emerged to counter the persecution.
Instead, the USCCB’s Bishop Mario E. Dorsonville has expressed his “disappointment” that the White House has decided not to raise the number of refugees permitted to enter the country. Bishop Dorsonville did not mention how many millions of taxpayer dollars the bishops’ secular NGOs “caring for refugees” will lose as a result of the decision.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden has handed off the administration’s coordination with governors on the Wuhan Virus to Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D., N.Y.). The choice is curious, given that under Cuomo, New York has had the nation’s worst response to the virus. Cuomo is personally responsible for the deaths of some fifteen thousand New Yorkers in nursing homes, a disaster which he successfully covered up for months, and which he now refuses to discuss because his critics are “political.”
Biden’s foreign-policy coordinator Kamala Harris continues to do nothing about the crisis at the border. White House spokeswoman Psaki has tried to quell the “crisis” narrative, and Brownsville Bishop Daniel Flores complies. “I don’t call the capacity of the (Rio Grande Valley) to handle it a crisis,” Flores told Crux, even as the valley is inundated with thousands of illegals and thousands more are kept in overcrowded detention facilities.
Catholic Charities is one of the most prominent nonprofits receiving millions of taxpayer dollars from the administration to “care for” those crossing the border illegally. Although child trafficking is rife in the border region, no bishop has yet publicly condemned the Coyote sex and drug traffickers that supply most of the clients for their NGOs.
Leftovers
“You can get a job in any industry you want basically right now,” CEO of Landry’s Tilman Fertitta said Tuesday, April 27 on CNBC’s Power Lunch.
Why so easy? Because Biden has extended the virus “emergency unemployment payments” through September, and millions of former employees prefer collecting those benefits to going back to work.
Over a million businesses were put out of business by the Democrat lockdowns. Millions more — restaurants, retail, factories, and countless other enterprises — are struggling to stay alive. They are central to the supply chain and are desperate to find help, but men and women willing to work are scarce indeed.
Say, where’s Joe Biden going to find a million people to fill those new government jobs?
In other news, former President George W. Bush was asked this week about Biden’s announced intention to pull American troops out of Afghanistan.
“My first reaction was, wow, these girls are going to have real trouble with the Taliban,” Bush said. “I’m deeply concerned about the plight of women and girls in that country.”
When he invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, Bush dismissed St. John Paul II’s warning that his wars would cause “chaos” in the Middle East. That chaos came, and it continues to this day. It brought with it the virtual extermination of Christianity in the region. One Iraqi Patriarch says that Bush’s wars achieved what Islam hadn’t been able to do since the seventh century.
Three days after the attacks of September 11, 2001, Bush had already decided to play Manichee. “Our responsibility to history is already clear,” he told a prayer service at Washington National Cathedral. Our task was “to answer these attacks and rid the world of evil.”
And now, two decades later, we learn that the most disastrous foreign policy decision in our lifetimes was all about “the plight of women and girls” in Afghanistan.
So much for our “responsibility to history.”
