Big Media Say “Facts” Come And “Facts” Go… And You Can Think What You Want Until You Can’t

By DEXTER DUGGAN

When an expert tells you he follows the science but you see his astrology books on the shelf and Tarot cards and Ouija board on the table, you’re justified in being as skeptical of him as he claims to be of unscientific methods.

People tend to be correct to distrust left-wing politicians who say they must follow the science but are as scared of seeing scientific ultrasound images of preborn babies as a vampire is of a crucifix.

For secularists who claim to reject miracles, they attribute wondrous powers to the “magical birth canal,” which in a few inches transforms an inert glob of useless tissue into a fully human baby upon delivery — or maybe a day or two after delivery, should Governors Andrew Cuomo or Ralph Northam want to tinker around a bit first at the cribs in the so-called newborn nursery.

The sly politician wants scientific “evidence,” even though his grasp of what the climate is to be a century into the future is as shaky as what his fellows 50 years ago claimed would be happening now. Icebergs melting? No, no they shrieked in the 1970s; the world will be locked in a new ice age.

Facts to them are whatever these wizards conjure in their cauldrons for the left-wing mandate of the moment.

So, a bit over a year ago, when some folks including conservative U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) and archvillain President Donald Trump considered evidence and expressed curiosity about whether the coronavirus that had exploded on the world may have come from a Communist Chinese lab, the stern media monitors of science howled condemnations.

Not condemnation that such an evil deed might have originated in the blessed land of Beijing. But condemnation that someone like Cotton or Trump even dared to believe such a bogus, phony, disproved, debunked, fraudulent, fake, bigoted, cockamamie, wacky, sappy, absurd piece of claptrap.

For Trump even to suggest such an idea was proof of his xenophobia, malice, ignorance, prejudice and hatred. Strange, but the terms Spanish flu and German measles long had entered the language before Trump could spread his own disease of chauvinism. But no matter, he still stood convicted.

How do we know these conservatives were so wrong? Because all of the big media backscratchers agreed among themselves then made sure to tell off everyone else.

Facebook didn’t want to hear that COVID-19 might be manmade or manufactured. Nor did biased “fact-checkers.” Until they suddenly reconsidered. “In other words, Facebook now believes that its censorship of millions of posts in the preceding months had been in error,” said an article at the UnHerd site on May 31.

The World so-called Health Organization, firmly in China’s hip pocket, proclaimed whatever President Xi Jinping wanted.

Last September the Associated Press explained how, according to scientists, COVID-19 couldn’t have originated in a lab.

“Despite top medical officials and researchers debunking the conspiracy theory that the virus originated in a lab, it continues to thrive,” said the AP. “Scientists have repeatedly said that the genetic sequence of the virus and its similarities to SARS, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, prove that the virus was not made in a lab or engineered.

“In a paper titled ‘The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2’ published in Nature in March, scientists with Scripps Research who studied the genome sequence of the virus concluded that it originated through natural processes,” the news service proclaimed.

Medical journals agreed. Until they couldn’t.

As for the Fourth Estate, national conservative commentator Quin Hillyer told The Wanderer on May 31, “This was another example of media ‘groupthink’ with a liberal bias, to the detriment of fair and factual reporting. It is inexcusable.”

(Sen. Cotton, by the way, if you’ll recall, got himself into bad trouble a few months later, as the 2020 summer of domestic violence erupted, when The New York Times published his opinion column citing the precedent for using the National Guard to put down such uprisings. Times staffers went wild at the very idea that their rioting left-wing buddies in the streets should be constrained.)

But, lo and behold, with Trump out of the White House now, the same media harridans who’d countenance none of his impieties against them began to admit there may be credibility to the virology lab as the source of the scourge after all. Hmm — turning on a dime — this may be a serious possibility.

The media faucet. Turn it on. Turn it off. It gushes. It goes dry. Better not try to plan your hydration or dish washing around the supply from this pipe.

Month after month, year after year, dominant media whip up whatever their preferred narratives are and try to ram them down everyone else’s throat. That journos have become ever more aggressive while their tales are increasingly disconnected from reality has brought them into their current disrepute.

If a grocer had worms crawling out of all his apples, he’d dump that bad stuff and restock his shelves with healthy fruit if he intended to make sales. But if he’s a journalist selling filth, he insists you buy it or he’ll call you the same bad names he calls the Cottons and Trumps. Deplorables, haters, Nazis, whatever.

But, take note, he probably won’t call you a Marxist or a Communist. Those, after all, are folks more to his liking. Like Black Lives Matter.

These journos insist they provide the information you need to live by in every which way. But their guidance is as dangerous as the blind driver’s who keeps running into ravines.

As far as these group-thinkers are concerned, it’s not even an issue if Joe Biden plans to use everyone’s tax dollars to pay for countless permissive abortions. It’s more important for them to ask bleary Biden about what ice cream he likes.

Hillyer, the national conservative commentator, posted at the Washington Examiner on May 29: “There is something ghoulish about the Left’s obsession with forcing people to pay for the abortions of others. Now, President Joe Biden is going full-ghoul while trying to jettison what for 45 years has been both his own position and U.S. policy.”

Biden is trying to dump the longtime Hyde Amendment, Hillyer said, which denies federal taxpayer funding for most abortions. He added this is a commonsensical arrangement which honors widespread opposition to, or qualms about, permissive abortion.

Nor is this the only example of the Left’s love of compelling others’ consciences in such serious moral matters. Hillyer added: “The worst example, but far from the only one, has been the repeated harassment of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Catholic nuns who take vows of poverty while providing late-life care to the indigent.

“The Little Sisters consider any participation in the provision of abortion to be a serious and intrinsic evil, such that they cannot in good conscience continue their ministry if it requires support for health insurance that covers it,” Hillyer said, pointing out that both the Obama administration and some states, as well as Biden, put the sisters in the crosshairs, despite courts ruling in the nuns’ favor.

Many Big Thoughts

It’s still early June, but thanks to Biden’s ineptitude, the Mideast is precariously perched, the Southwest border overrun while criminal cartels call the tune, the economy looking into an abyss of inflation and debt. However, scribblers say what a cute little dummy he is, so charming! Biden must have so many big thoughts in his mind all at once, that’s why he has trouble sputtering them out.

Back when Trump was in office, on the other hand, he was the slime of the Earth, an execrable liar who had to be stomped into oblivion every day. If ice cream was the topic, it’s that Trump hogged the dessert for himself, along with all other kinds of detestable ways of eating.

If only he’d let the media spoon-feed him his thoughts, they probably would have allowed Trump to remain in office for a second term, while a laugh like Biden would be in the comfy retirement home he deserves. With lots of ice cream.
