But Cloward-Piven In Background . . . Obama’s “Child Migrant” Border Strategy Backfires Badly

By DEXTER DUGGAN

PHOENIX — The Bible is clear about requirements to extend mercy and compassion to neighbors and strangers. Less remarked upon these days, it seems, are other clear lessons about the need to be faithful stewards for the Lord.

The Parable of the Talents dramatically illustrates God’s expectation that people will develop what they have been given (Matthew, Luke).

In that parable, the harsh master celebrates and rewards his servants who productively, creatively invested the money he loaned them. But he severely punishes the listless servant who merely hands back the original amount he received, even though this servant vainly tries to excuse himself by saying he feared the wrath of the master.

When each of us faces Final Judgment, we understandably would like the mercy we hope for, not the justice we deserve. God best understands our frailties as well as strengths and will weigh them accordingly. But He wants to have evidence that we really tried, not a disappointing record that we didn’t make the effort because we feared a harsh ruler.

A few years ago a black California activist came to the Arizona state capitol to join in a rally against massive illegal immigration. A San Diego resident, he knew Mexico up close. Perhaps his most striking comment was, “It’s the same dirt” on either side of the border fence.

The United States side of the border doesn’t have magical money-sprouting fields while the Mexican side has only bad-luck dirt. What you do with what you’ve received significantly determines the result.

This doesn’t mean that every hard worker becomes a millionaire but all the poor are deservedly being punished for laziness. While that never was true, the Barack Obama era of an intentionally repressed economy underscores lack of financial certainty.

Still, one draws lessons that when a nation’s population allows deep political corruption and oligarchy to flourish, the people eventually pay the price of their passivity and get a dismal future. American voters face the challenge every day to throw off Obama thug rule. It’s not an easy task, but desperately necessary.

The same has to be said of illegal immigrants massively flooding into the U.S. for a financial reward after allowing continued corruption in their own nations. Even if they fear a harsh master, they must use their talents in their homelands more courageously.

We’re told they hope for a better life here — even though their own nations often could provide that if they buckled down instead of stooping their heads, then stooping across the border illegally and “into the shadows” here to await their promised reward of amnesty.

In one of countless possible examples, a woman from Honduras recently said she came to the U.S. illegally because she was told there are good schools here for her children. And, presumably, good U.S. taxpayers to pay for them. This is an obvious violation of justice against U.S. citizens.

To such border violations has been added the recent surge of alien minors. Another one-way street, with the U.S. bearing the brunt.

Why shouldn’t many of the people of Oklahoma and North Carolina send their children to France and expect Paris to bear the financial burden? Perhaps because the French elite haven’t preached the open-borders poison as much as have the U.S. elite.

Tucson public school teacher Brad McQueen voiced his concerns at the Arizona Daily Independent website on June 21 because “every year our schools . . . see a steady stream of illegal-immigrant children enrolling, burdening our already stretched educational resources,” and the schools are required by the federal government to accept them.

McQueen feared that by continued overloading of the schools, Obama will create another crisis in education and social services that he’ll proclaim requires the federal government to expand further and impose more control.

Having encouraged year after year of massive illegal immigration despite public opposition, the elites and their government allies apparently decided they could throw Americans off balance by suddenly bringing in waves of new immigrants, mainly minors. Who would dare turn away children?

That strategy didn’t work so well. First, how could anyone think hundreds of thousands of toddlers and teenagers legally should be able to choose wherever they want to live?

In addition, the youngster onslaught appeared to demonstrate the ultimate tragedy of open borders. Unauthorized foreigners go anywhere they please, and no nation can dare refuse welcoming and subsidizing them all, even for years or permanently.

Even the legendary open-borders crusader Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) quickly perceived the public backlash and demanded the minors all be sent home. Yes, the storied McCain, whose heart is so big that tens of millions of illegal immigrants find a home there, insisted these children must be sent back south.

McCain was on the airwaves and in the newspapers saying this.

A long story in the June 17 issue of the Phoenix-based Arizona Republic, the state’s largest daily, which is every bit as pro-open-borders as the senator, quoted McCain:

“It’s the result of the president sending the message that if you can get here and you are a young person, you can stay. The president has got to openly say that if you come here illegally, you can’t stay. And until he does that, you’re going to see this flood of young people, which is absolutely unacceptable.”

The Republic story also quoted Cong. Matt Salmon (R., Ariz.), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere:

“If President Obama really cares about families and children, then he should make it really clear that there is no amnesty here, and if you come, you will be immediately deported. That’s the only deterrent, because the waves are going to keep coming unless we clarify that.”

Obama’s Deceptions

The Los Angeles Times posted a story June 18 saying that Art del Cueto, a Border Patrol union president in Arizona, said children at the Nogales, Ariz., holding center “had told him they were urged to migrate illegally now by family members, smugglers, and religious leaders who believed they would be allowed to stay legally.”

The story didn’t identify which “religious leaders” joined in this deception.

The Times added that even liberal Texas Democrat Cong. Henry Cuellar joined with Sen. John Cornyn (R., Texas) to demand the young illegal immigrants be stopped.

The newspaper said Cuellar “said the problem would not be solved on the border but rather at its source, in Central America, where the latest wave of young immigrants must be prevented from starting the trek north. ‘If we keep playing defense on the one-yard line — which is the U.S.-Mexico border — you can see what’s happening’.”

Responding to an outraged public, the Obama administration pretended that it planned to send most of the minors back home, but the ruse was apparent.

Washington Examiner columnist Byron York noted a statement by Vice President Joe Biden that “the vast majority” of illegal minors would be returned home.

York wrote on June 23: “In his brief statement, the vice president (unintentionally) put his finger on the problem. ‘We’re going to hold hearings,’ he said, ‘with our judges, consistent with international law and American law.’ That hearing process now stretches for years, ensuring that a young illegal immigrant will not have to leave the U.S. anytime soon, if at all.”

It’s the same deception the Obama administration uses when it puts illegal immigrants on buses to travel to wherever they please in the U.S., including your hometown.

The migrants supposedly are to visit an immigration judge after they arrive — as if anyone expects them, once they succeed in getting where they want, to present themselves for possible deportation. Or the fantasy that, having released them now, Obama will try to catch them later.

Even open-borders Republican writer Fred Barnes admitted on the Hugh Hewitt radio program on June 18, “They didn’t come to America to go to an immigration hearing.”

If Obama intended to deport them, he could do so right at the Southwest border, not from Omaha, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, and New York.

Destroying The System

A careful student of left-wing radicalism, hard-left Obama is well aware of the strategy developed by academic Marxists Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven in the 1960s for destroying the system by overloading it. Obama’s wild budgets and deficits are only part of the technique.

Writer John Hayward summarized Cloward-Piven at the Human Events website on June 9:

“Back in the Sixties, Marxists Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven came up with a great strategy for overloading and collapsing democratic welfare states, paving the way for socialist tyranny. Basically, the idea was to hit the system with a tidal wave of demands it couldn’t refuse, and couldn’t possibly fulfill.

“The Left would then insist that the moral argument for the system remained intact, so the only way to meet those impossible demands was to scrap every vestige of Constitutional restraint and republican self-government, instituting a totalitarian system that in theory would forcibly restructure society to promote ‘fairness’ and give all those government dependents what they ‘deserve’,” Hayward wrote.

Former Cong. John Linder (R., Ga.) noted that the Cloward-Piven strategy explicitly is being used at the border to overwhelm the U.S. Linder wrote in part at The Blaze site on June 10:

“The federal government is shipping illegal families to Phoenix from Texas by the planeload, and illegals from Central America are being bused from the Mexican border to Phoenix and released on the street corners. They will all overload our health-care system, our welfare rolls, and our schools.”

An increasingly frustrated Arizona GOP Gov. Jan Brewer told Phoenix’s KFYI talk radio (550 AM) on June 12 that the current experience shows the border must be secured first, but the courts have said the states can’t control the border, and the federal government refuses to.

Brewer actually suggested that the answer may have to be the people staging a revolution.

Meanwhile, National Review Online reported June 24 that south Texas ranchers are seeing an increasing criminal element coming across, with ranchers having their pistols at the ready even when just mowing the lawn.

The previous week, the Pinal County, Ariz., Sheriff’s Office held a news conference about the continuing story of Mexican gang members who work as lookouts on local hills, to help the cartels move their loads of drugs and aliens deeper into Arizona.

Pinal County isn’t some remote location but is directly southeast of metropolitan Phoenix’s Maricopa County.

On June 18, KFNX radio news in Phoenix (1100 AM) reported that Arizona is the sixth-most dangerous state in the nation, with illegal immigration likely a contributing factor.

Despite this June spectacle, the big-money elite like media king Rupert Murdoch and casino magnate Sheldon Adelson demanded that Congress hurry up and provide “comprehensive immigration reform,” just like lawless Obama demands.

Perhaps with an eye on this powerful class more than looking out for ordinary Americans, new House Majority Leader-elect Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) sounded less than firm in promising he won’t bring up some sort of “immigration reform” for a vote in coming months.

National Review editor Rich Lowry said, “The drive to get this done will never go away,” so “eternal vigilance” against “immigration reform” is required. Lowry was speaking on the June 23 Laura Ingraham national radio program.

Massive illegal immigration never has been popular with Americans. But some members of the U.S. “me generation” who think they have a right to everything from the U.S. government, from cell phones to abortions, may have been reluctant to firmly oppose illegal border crossers who think they, too, have a guaranteed right to U.S. benefits.

That may be changing now that the waves of underage illegal immigrants show there’s no limit to the demands that massive unauthorized crossing will place on this country, nor the number of ways that Obama will maneuver to grind this nation down to dust.
