Don’t Miss This Week’s Print Edition Of The Wanderer . . .

There is much to be concerned with the Pope’s new encyclical on the environment, such as the “scientific advisers” who were consulted for this document, as well as some of the “accepted scientific theory” treated as fact in Laudato Si.

Unsurprisingly, a firestorm of criticism has erupted on the Internet and over the airwaves about the Pope’s new encyclical.

James K. Fitzpatrick’s front-page column for The Wanderer this week reminds us about what seems to be lost in the conflict: “The Church claims authority only in faith and morals, not in science and economics.”

On the other hand, Fr. Kevin M. Cusick’s column highlights the portions of the document where Catholic teaching does play an important role.

The Pope has encouraged honest and open debate regarding the environment. Perhaps in the weeks and months ahead The Wanderer can shed some light on the controversies, particularly on those areas where the encyclical lacks authority and may inadvertently become a tool for those who wish to use it to further agendas contrary to Church teaching.
