“Emangelizing” With Cardinal Burke

By REY FLORES

It’s been a growing problem that men have taken a back seat to being the spiritual heads of their own households. This is no accident. This is the result of the rampant social engineering that hates marriage, families, and human life itself. I call it the “Homerization” of our nation, where men are portrayed in popular culture as useless dolts who care for nothing more than their own selfish desires and needs.

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: We went from “Father Knows Best” to “Father Knows Nothing.” We have become a soft-in-the-middle army of Homer Simpson-like cartoon characters, asleep on the couch with a TV remote in our hands, as the souls of our families are being attacked.

Matthew James Christoff is a convert and was accepted into the Catholic Church in 2006. Prior to his conversion, he was a pluralist, believing that all religions had truth but no single religion had the “Truth.” In the midst of a life-threatening battle with cancer, Matthew had a series of encounters with Jesus Christ that eventually led him to the Catholic Church. Interesting how that happens.

Christoff is spearheading The New Emangelization project, which, according to Christoff’s website, argues that a “New Emangelization,” a targeted effort to evangelize men as part of the New Evangelization, is both necessary and urgent because of the worsening “Man Crisis” in the Catholic Church and its significant negative long-term consequences.

Christoff recently had an interview with Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke in which the “man-crisis” was discussed at length. Burke offered many insightful perspectives as to why we men really do need to get our act together to strengthen both the Church and our own individual domestic churches.

Because traditional marriage is under attack, Cardinal Burke emphasized the importance of appreciating human sexuality as God designed it, despite all of the pro-homosexual propaganda being thrust upon our culture.

He stated: “So too is the beautiful gift of our human sexuality as God intended it, not as, sadly, the many sick abuses of the gift of sexuality that are occurring in the world today. The dark confusion of gender theory deceives people into thinking that they can create their own sexual identities based on urges and emotions.

“We are so blessed God gave us this gift of being a man or being a woman. It’s a matter of us to respond to God’s will to develop our gifts of being a man or woman.”

His Eminence also pointed out the importance of stepping out into the public square to defend our faith, our traditions, our culture, but, most important, our families.

“When the French government unilaterally imposed the so-called same-sex marriage, which of course is not marriage at all, it brought out two million people who rallied behind the simple image of fathers and mothers holding the hands of their children. Fathers are essential to the family.”

He added: “If a father was missing in their lives, men need to realize what they needed in a father and a mother. Fathers and mothers are wonderful gifts that are given to us by God.”

One of the highlights of this terrific interview addressed the need for priests to develop their manly qualities and to be good examples to the men of the parish through self-discipline, chivalry, and selflessness. Oftentimes, we may tell our sons to follow Father’s example, but we ourselves aren’t always following that same example.

Other important topics covered in this interview included the importance of the Traditional Latin Mass and altar boys; the dangers of pornography and masturbation; and the soul-saving Sacrament of Confession.

At the end of the interview, His Eminence commended Christoff for his efforts in developing the New Emangelization, telling him that it is the “key to the New Evangelization.”
