Gunfire At Ballpark . . . Democrat Leaders’ Cowardice Helps Propel Nation Toward Breakdown

By DEXTER DUGGAN

If more political leaders had stood up for basic moral beliefs, there probably would have been less of the growth of left-wing extremism that enabled hysteria culminating in the shooting attack on Republican members of Congress on a Virginia baseball field in mid-June.

However, with each step further left that the national Democratic Party took in recent decades, prominent figures like Catholics Cong. Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Tim Kaine. and Gov. Andrew Cuomo joined the march in the role of avid pro-abortionists, supporters of homosexual privilege, and advocates of a politicized “morality” that detested its opposition.

No accusation seemed too wild. Even the imaginary idea that Republican Donald Trump managed to conspire with Russia to steal the presidential election for himself last November — although Democrat Barack Obama was commander-in-chief — wasn’t confined to feverish bloggers but eagerly pushed on the front pages and live updates of nationally dominant media.

At some previous point Pelosi & Co. could have put the brakes on this political momentum and thereby deflated its indulgence in these media, but the pols sailed along with it, even though aggrieved leftists in their basements bulged their eyes for the day of revenge.

And what happens if this counterfeit campaign could drive the duly elected Trump from the White House in a lawless coup? Do the leftists and their media pals entertain the notion that the rest of America simply will shrug its shoulders and say, “Sure, we surrender. Get back to doing your dirty deeds that made us fly into Trump’s arms for protection last November”?

By pure coincidence, on the very day of the June 14 attack against GOP politicians in Arlington, Va., the leader of the Liberal Democrat Party in the United Kingdom, Tim Farron, an evangelical Christian, stepped down, citing suspicions against him because of his presumably traditionalist views on abortion and homosexuality.

Reuters news service reported: “Farron said he had concluded that it was impossible for him to stay as leader of a progressive, liberal party and live as a committed Christian despite not seeking to impose his views on others.”

The news service quoted Farron: “I seem to be the subject of suspicion because of what I believe and Who my faith is in. In which case, we are kidding ourselves if we think we yet live in a tolerant, liberal society.”

Britain’s Liberal Democrats are a small party, sort of a “conscience” party that chooses to persecute conscience these days.

And the U.S. Democratic Party is less a party than it once was, both because of its traditional-morality supporters it purged and the ones who simply abandoned the Democrats over disgust for its continued capitulations to, and promotion of, major immorality.

Thus, national Democrats have sought fresh support among radicals and extremists who’d have no home of their own, or powerful approbation, except for Dems giving them the house key.

Shortly after 7 a.m. on June 14, a radical supporter of left-wing Sen. Bernie Sanders began ripping off dozens of rifle shots in a try to assassinate Republican politicians practicing their baseball moves in Virginia for a charity-benefit game against Democrats the next evening.

Sanders denounced “this despicable act” by suspect James Hodgkinson, of Belleville, Ill.

Five reportedly were shot, including House GOP Whip Steve Scalise, of Louisiana, whose status as a senior Republican meant two members of a government security detail were present, who returned fire.

The gunman was shot and died.

Others at the ball field marveled that if armed agents hadn’t been present, there could have been a massacre by the well-armed suspect shooting into an open park against defenseless players.

News reports described Hodgkinson as an avid consumer of left-wing media who posted his own diatribes against President Trump and Republicans at his Facebook page, including saying, “Trump is a traitor. Trump has destroyed our democracy. It’s time to destroy Trump & Co.” Themes which, incidentally, aren’t much different from the daily memes of dominant media.

Hodgkinson’s hometown newspaper, the Belleville News-Democrat, said he belonged to a number of anti-GOP groups including “The Road to Hell Is Paved With Republicans,” “Expose Republican Fraud,” and “Terminate the Republican Party.”

The newspaper posted online various letters to the editor he’d written to it, including attacking “income inequality” and calling for higher taxes. The London-based Daily Telegraph said some of his letters “praised Barack Obama, while others railed against Republicans in general and right-wing talk-show hosts in particular.” The Hill political news site reported June 14 that shortly after the shooting, a New York Republican congresswoman, Claudia Tenney, received a threatening email saying:

“Did you NOT expect this? When you take away ordinary peoples (sic) very lives in order to pay off the wealthiest among us, your own lives are forfeit. Certainly, your souls and morality were lost long before. Good riddance.”

This echoed the arrogant, hollow moralizing tone of leftists who fight for a socialist view of “income equality.”

Apparently misstating the number of 239 House Republicans, the threatening email’s subject line was, “One down, 216 to go.”

A spokeswoman for Tenney said the tone of the email actually wasn’t unusual, The Hill reported, but its timing was “particularly disheartening following this morning’s tragic events.”

Syracuse.com, a news platform in Tenney’s home district, quoted her on June 14 saying: “I always feel safe here at the Capitol. But when I’m back home in the district, not always. People always recognize me. There is a lot of angst, and unfortunately the dialogue and the protesters and the Resist movement has gotten very aggressive.”

Indeed, foaming leftist movements, cheered on by dominant media, are transforming the United States into a violently unsafe space for conservatives and Republicans. Consider how leftist judges deplore Trump’s efforts to specially vet questionable entrants to this country.

Conservatives justifiably have mocked liberal college students for demanding “safe spaces” where they don’t have to listen to words they dislike. But leftists have gone so far as to riot against allowing conservative speakers on campuses. Meanwhile, the so-called news coverage in a media flagship like The Washington Post rages bug-eyed every day against Trump and the GOP.

How different from relatively recent days when radical leftist President Obama’s whoppers of lies and lawbreaking left the Post and its pals purring in delight.

Students better expect to hear different ideas. I seem to recall a bygone college English class, not political science or sociology, where the instructor presented his Marxist views. He was out of bounds on the topic, but I guess this could have been called “expanding your horizons” for students instead of opting to flee to a safe space.

And politicians better expect criticism if they expect to be in office. That goes with the job. As Democrat politician Harry Truman is reputed to have said even before becoming president in 1945, “If you don’t like the heat, get out of the kitchen.”

But both inside the U.S. and beyond our borders, people are coming under actual gunfire these days from radicals ablaze with resentment over the idea their revolution is being resisted. Looks like if we don’t just lie down obediently, they intend to make us prone.

On the day of the Arlington shootings, national radio host Rush Limbaugh, noting the result of media’s unhinged spouting, said, “You can’t continue to enrage people” without expecting such a result. He concluded his program by saying, “This hoax is now getting people shot.”

Conservative Cong. Ron DeSantis (R., Fla.) told national radio talk host Laura Ingraham on June 14 that threats have increased against Congress since Trump took office — and, personally, not only against him and his wife but also their six and a half-month-old baby daughter.

Raid On Daleiden

To have watched freshman Democrat Sen. Kamala Harris of California repeatedly badger and interrupt respected witnesses on Capitol Hill shortly before the Arlington shooting was a reminder that this minority party’s radicals know no limit to their risible sense of self-importance, as damaging as it is to their public image.

This, after all, was the same Kamala Harris who as California attorney general last year ordered a sneak raid of pro-life activist David Daleiden’s residence to seize his video footage of abortionists selling aborted babies’ organs.

Why might Harris do that? Tens of thousands of dollars of campaign donations to her from leading abortionist Planned Parenthood might have provided some inspiration.

And one can only ponder what’s going on inside the mind of fired former FBI Director James Comey, who openly testified recently that he arranged to have government information leaked in hopes this would lead to the creation of a special prosecutor to trouble Trump. If that doesn’t sound like an invitation for criminal action against Comey, what would?

Except, of course, not to organs like the hyper-partisan Washington Post, which headlined that Comey merely wanted to “share” information. Golly, like in friendly old Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood? Bad old Mr. Trump, he scares us! He doesn’t deserve to live in our friendly neighborhood, no matter how many fair-housing laws there are!

Charlie Gard

If there was a hopeful glimmer in the week, it might have been found in some news coverage of Baby Charlie Gard in London. His parents have fought to bring him to the U.S. for experimental treatment for his rare genetic mitochondrial syndrome that depletes his energy.

They’ve raised crowdfunding money from a reported 85,000 people and have a U.S. medical team ready to receive him.

However, doctors and judges in the UK have battled them every step of the way, holding that Charlie is better off dead. As this hardcopy issue of The Wanderer went to press on June 15, word was awaited from the European Court of Human Rights on June 19 whether Baby Charlie would continue to receive life support.

If only his parents wanted to kill him, governments would roll out a red carpet with trophies to salute their “private choice.” But they have to fight like tigers to protect his life and dignity.

It was interesting that stories in both the London Sun, a backer of the Conservative Party, and London Daily Mirror, a backer of the Labor Party, showed respect for Charlie’s life and concern over the mental suffering of his parents.

In decades past, protection of innocent babies wasn’t a political issue decided by party sympathies. Could the Sun and Daily Mirror be a glimmer of restoration of such values?
