Before the rabbi Jesus of Nazareth began His final journey to Jerusalem, neither His friends nor foes forecast what was to become the astounding first Easter.
A tortured dead man soon rising up in full good health? Despite having seen the miracles this rabbi had worked, most of His closest friends, rather than putting on their best optimistic faces for coming good events while dreary Good Friday dragged by, fled in fear and despair.
Two millennia later, as Easter draws near, more fear and despair. None of the countries around the world appears in danger of its own extinction from the COVID-19 pandemic, even though many residents have died or soon will from it, in addition to far more people being sickened but surviving.
Is some miracle soon to occur to end this suffering? Or will it be prolonged for one reason or another, from lack of preparedness and strategic solutions to deserved and long-overdue Divine punishment?
The very suggestion that God’s wrath finally had descended rightfully on a defiant and sinful world was met with loathing by political leftists in quarters including politics and dominant media, whose own aggressive agenda had imposed these offenses against the Almighty.
After all, their beloved perversions were the worst sorts of sins, including massive, unending infant slaughter. To tell them to stop killing defenseless babies by the millions was to them the same as saying to poke out their own eyes, not babies’, with hot pokers. Absolutely unthinkable.
The Washington Examiner reported on March 25 that Pennsylvania Republican State Rep. Stephanie Borowicz “filed a nonbinding resolution . . . to designate March 30 as a ‘State Day of Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer,’ likening the ‘punishment’ of the COVID-19 pandemic to the Civil War,” which had been seen by some in the nineteenth century as just retribution for human slavery.
In part, the Examiner reported, the resolution read, “And whereas, May we not justly fear that the awful calamity of the pandemic, which now desolates this Commonwealth, may be but a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole people?”
However, the “progressive” American Independent site cited outrage by Democrats who dared not countenance Borowicz’s thinking.
The Independent said, “Fellow Pennsylvania State Rep. Kevin Boyle, a Democrat, called the resolution ‘the stupidest resolution I’ve ever seen a politician introduce’.”
Meanwhile, the Independent reported another outraged Pennsylvania Democrat: “‘Borowicz, using archaic language specific to her personal faith tradition, simply divides us by forcing her belief system on others,’ State Rep. Dan Frankel, Democratic chair of the state House Health Committee, told PennLive.”
The incident recalled the righteous, or unrighteous, indignation of Virginia Democrat politicians in February when a black pastor offered an opening prayer in their state House of Delegates.
The Christian Post reported on February 13 that the Rev. Robert M. Grant, Jr., asked the legislature not to draw down God’s anger by making laws that could destroy the fabric of the state. “These included concerns over racial inequality regarding criminal punishments, prison reform, and the need to help keep families together,” the Post said.
But these particular Virginians became furious when Grant mentioned “same-sex marriage,” as well as the proximity of abortion clinics to minority neighborhoods as “planned urban genocide,” the Post said, quoting Grant on abortion:
“The unborn has rights and those rights need to be protected. They should never be denied the right to exist, the right to develop, or the right to have a family. The word of God has given us a warning: woe to anyone who harms an innocent child.”
Angry Democrats in the chamber responded by gavel-banging, heckling, walking out, and criticizing a prayer that “make(s) people feel bad.”
Ah yes, warnings from God should only make sinners feel happy in their evils.
Despite such evidence, my longtime Democrat friends Bill and Ben (to use pseudonyms) have persuaded themselves that the Democrat Party is morally superior. It remains to be seen how much longer they ignore the, um, scientific facts.
I know, I know, there’s some bad Republican somewhere — maybe in the White House — whose existence to them outweighs all the official Democrat national platform depravities.
But in addition to basic moral considerations as Easter arrives, what about the widespread medical and other questions about how best to get nations back on their feet. Can that even be achieved in the foreseeable future, or, like horrible historic plagues, must the COVID-19 germs burn their way through societies before they go into remission or drop from sight?
If any society is capable of resisting being overwhelmed, it should be a Western one — but look at Italy or Spain. True, the United States is probably best-equipped of all to fight back, but predictions necessarily remain to be proved.
Optimistic big businessman Donald Trump, declaring that the U.S. wasn’t “built to be shut down,” was true to form when he hoped to get the U.S. open for business again by Easter. “I would love to have the country opened up and just raring to go by Easter,” he told a Fox News virtual town hall in late March.
In 2020, Easter is on April 12 for most Christians.
“I don’t want the cure to be worse than the problem itself,” Trump said, meaning he didn’t want to cripple the nation with an overreaction. True, no nation would be willing to ban automobiles to stop all traffic deaths, but what balance was to be sought regarding battling COVID-19?
Conservative Republican political consultant Constantin Querard told The Wanderer on March 25: “The symbolism of an Easter reopening would be beautiful, but it will ultimately happen or not happen because of the scientific and medical reality on the ground.
“It is important that President Trump keeps the country focused on what happens after this lockdown and reminds us that the end is hopefully near, so an Easter goal is a pretty good one,” Querard said. ”It gives him another three weeks to see what progress is made, and that’s a good amount of time to deal with the pandemic.”
Victor Joecks, an opinion columnist at the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Nevada’s largest news site, told The Wanderer on March 25: “I hope we’re able to reopen the country or large portions of it by Easter as well. It’s unclear at this point if the health trade-off will be worth it.
“Let’s hope that widespread testing enables officials to find ways to halt the spread of the virus and allow the gatherings we once took for granted, even if social distancing measures remain in place,” Joecks added.
Quite apart from the disease contagion, people were plagued in unfamiliar ways in their daily lives. A video of a tearful English nurse caught on. After working a 48-hour shift due to the disease, she said she couldn’t find food for herself at the grocery store. She begged that people stop hoarding.
Thousands of miles away, at a neighborhood message board in Phoenix, a person asked to barter hand sanitizer to obtain toilet paper. And a California man said he was Fedex’ing toilet paper to deprived Arizona relatives. Who wudda thought?
One explanation was that grocery chains had ceased having warehouses with potentially months of supplies on hand for their outlets, so any disruption in the daily supply line could mean shortages.
Still, in the good old days, like two months ago, people were used to satisfying their material needs readily in large stores that saw perhaps thousands of shoppers filling their carts every day or two. But now repeated visits for a few basic items only revealed shelves stripped. Perhaps human nature isn’t so nice if hoarders so readily emerge.
The Devil must be laughing at this spectacle. But if shortages worsen, the well-known holiday-season fights by customers at big-box stores for merchandise could look mild compared to food riots.
One thing that doesn’t change in left-wing national Democrats’ nature is, as their saying goes, courtesy of Rahm Emanuel, once chief of staff to leftist President Barack Obama: “You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that, it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”
As the White House tried to work with Congress for a $2 trillion emergency relief bill for the nation, corrupt U.S. House Dem Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her allies conspired to load in all the unrelated provisions possible, to ensure that whether or not hundreds of thousands died of COVID-19, the Republican Party would be dead.
A few of many little political pets, columnist James S. Robbins wrote in USA Today, were “requirements on states for early voting, voting by mail, required mailing of absentee ballots to everyone, ballot harvesting (i.e., having third parties deliver absentee ballots), online voter registration, same-day registration, and other practices which undermine confidence in the integrity of the ballot.”
And don’t forget government money for abortion.
Ah yes, ballot harvesting, where unrelated third parties bring box after box of dubious ballots to be tabulated. The Dems would print cheap ballots like the government prints cheap money.
Left-wing Dem House Majority Whip James Clyburn, of South Carolina, boasted the crisis was “a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.” Dems couldn’t sound much more callous than that. Restructuring society to fit their vision in this crisis? That reeks of real dictatorships that the Dems supposedly oppose.
As Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) observed, if Republicans were trying to do the same skullduggery, all the major media would be hopping mad at them.
And rightly so.
As Dems tried to block the relief bill if they couldn’t get what they wanted, Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) said, “It is disgraceful and it is dangerous for the lives of our people and their economic well-being.”
By the way, if aging populations are more vulnerable to this pandemic, why are they so aging except that Planned Parenthood-style population-reducers wreaked their havoc in the developed West (and now are at work on Africa, too).
Democrats rightly were concerned that Dementia Joe Biden’s word salads tossed for this crisis made the bad Catholic ever less suitable as a presidential nominee. Indeed, as this writer suggested two weeks ago, the name of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo was being tested here and there as a potential replacement.
Cuomo, a bad Catholic who lit New York’s skyline in pink in 2019 to celebrate killing babies not only throughout pregnancy but also after birth. How perfect a national Democrat could you get?
A World Of Coincidences
A few final thoughts for the week, as events keep flowing like a geyser.
Northern California commentator Barbara Simpson noted in her weekly column for World Net Daily posted March 20 that even as Americans are locked down by their own government, illegal aliens have a record for decades of sneaking in without such restriction.
With it pretty certain that COVID-19 came from China, does the thought of a trial run for biological warfare by an aggressive totalitarian nation ring a bell? A rulership isn’t finicky that intentionally kills its own Chinese babies as a matter of policy, and subjugates religions to worship the state.
What a world of coincidences in a globalist world. In the presidential election year of 2008, a stock market crash helped drive dubious voters away from boring old incumbent Republicans into the arms of untested but glib newcomer Barack Obama.
When Obama sought reelection in 2012, and when Democrat Hillary Clinton was assumed to be the sure winner in 2016, golly, no market crashes.
When anti-globalist, conservative, pro-life GOP President Trump is thought to be an unbeatable favorite for reelection in 2020, the market and the world both fall in.
Just sayin’.
