Talk about not showing much energy, exhausted-sounding Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden isn’t the only one.
If Catholics who want to vote for liberal Democrats would have spent one-tenth the energy on keeping the Democratic Party pro-life as they have in fact spent on excusing and pardoning the party’s every step deeper into pro-abortion extremism, we wouldn’t be at today’s tragic position. The party wasn’t always this way, and could have been saved.
With little or no pushback from these Catholic quarters, national Democrats were only too vulnerable to accede to counter-pressure from their other backers like the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and media leftists.
Biden, his party, and his platform support massive permissive abortion throughout pregnancy, paid by taxpayers. Even partial-birth abortion and “abortion” after birth aren’t regarded as too extreme for Democratic politicians.
Give this trend maybe seven more years and three-year-olds will be disposed of, too, as mere appendages of the mother, and “progressives” won’t blink an eye. The Supreme Court will unearth this new right over there in the ever-expanding graveyard of our culture.
Rather than criticize the promoters of moral chaos, today’s Biden-ites attack those who would defend moral clarity. Sowing confusion among Catholic Democrats has been a key component for the march into deeper immorality.
Imagine that a prominent U.S. Catholic Democratic politician was well-known as the public, unrepentant head of a border sex-trafficking operation, every month bringing in thousands of minors for exploitation around this nation.
Or what about a prominent Democratic politician who regularly flew into rages at Sunday Mass and viciously beat his wife and children right in the Communion line?
Or let’s think that in order to maximize his profits at his fast-food business, he literally had his workers go out and dig through garbage dumps for decaying meat and vegetables, then added extra hot sauce to cover up the taste.
If moral traditionalists said the man was a bad Catholic, unworthy to receive the Eucharist without repentance, wouldn’t everyone else agree this obviously was so? And if he wasn’t even Catholic, he’d still be a very bad man for sex-trafficking, beating his family, or pushing tainted food.
Yet if a so-called Catholic politician stands for permissively crushing or dismembering preborn human babies, we’re told what a complex, complicated question this is. Just too exhausting to figure out.
Maybe we’re mocked and told we can’t determine if he’s a “bad Catholic” unless we also discover his position on the Trinity, the Virgin Birth, the Resurrection of the dead, and other required beliefs.
Let’s remember the demarcation between a private person whose sins are known only to God, and will be judged by Him, and a “Catholic” speaker of the U.S. House who regularly tries to fund as much abortion as she can with taxpayer money through federal legislation.
Perhaps we’re told that it’s okay to give badly pro-abortion Biden our backing by voting for him on other issues, just as long as we don’t actively intend to support him for promoting this slaughter.
But the point arrives when an organization is so closely tied to what it regards as a core issue, support for that organization’s officials has to translate as support for its core issue.
Imagine that you announced at the recent Democratic virtual national convention that every other element of its socialist platform could remain intact, but its support for permissive abortion had to be stripped out. The explosive reaction would have about rivaled the effect of those two U.S. atomic bombs dropped on Japan in August 1945. You can’t be the Democrat Party without massive abortion.
How about if the Ku Klux Klan were as active today as it was a few decades ago under Democratic Party sponsorship, and Democrat Sam Jones gives money to the Klan because he only intends the donation to support the widows and orphans of its deceased members. Would Sam’s donation be regarded as compassion and charity, or as support for segregation forever? Just so.
Was a baptized, church-attending Grand Dragon Klansman who followed some but not all of the Ten Commandments a good Christian? Perhaps as much as non-Klansman Joe Biden.
Members of various religions are elected in U.S. politics who aren’t Catholics at all. They’re not called bad Catholics but non-Catholics. They may be great political defenders of preborn babies and traditional morality, and we don’t say they can’t run for office unless they accept the Pope as the supreme religious authority, or Confession of sins on Saturday afternoon.
People of various religions or even no religion can and do honor traditional moral principles. Think of atheist pro-life commentator Nat Hentoff and atheist abortionist Bernard Nathanson, MD, who later became a pro-lifer and, after that, also Catholic.
What makes dominant media members mad is when they want to keep pushing further for immorality and some people resist, so the time arrives for media sliming.
The problem about being a “bad Catholic” politician arose when certain rosary-carrying folks decided it was more expedient to reject foundational beliefs such as defending the sanctity of life of the preborn, yet they’d make a display of their attachment to such religious practices as receiving the Eucharist. Think of such prominent, defiant Catholics as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Biden.
They weren’t exhausted at all when flaunting their defiance of how they’d been raised and insisting their new way of pride must prevail.
They wanted the so-called best of both worlds, having people think they were acceptable both as practicing Catholics worthy of Church and public respect and politicians who could rake in donations from abortion organizations. But we had to remind people they weren’t. Which made slime-slinging media mad at us.
A person who hopes to be Catholic but privately struggles with certain elements of conscience should talk those out with his confessor. He isn’t giving public scandal. But if he claims to be a practicing Catholic while assuming a public role that violates fundamental, non-negotiable moral principles, like permissively killing the preborn, he’s living a lie and must be called to account.
At the level of fundamental moral principles, we’re probably looking at natural-law requirements anyway, broadly applicable, not whether Catholic bishops’ conferences favor a one-hour or three-hour fast.
If some Democrat says a 55-mpg environmental requirement for automobiles or a “sustainable” 350-square-foot house betokens a morally equivalent “life” issue, he’s pushing his own political preferences, not fundamental moral ones. He has his own non-negotiable issues, in the Eco-Church of Mother Earth.
It should be easy to understand the correct moral priorities that oppose Biden’s bad Catholicism, and see through the sloppy thinking that the Biden side hopes could gull people.
“Catholics for Biden” political planners say Pope Francis says that “equally sacred” are “the lives of the poor, those already born, the destitute, the abandoned and the underprivileged, the vulnerable infirm and elderly exposed to covert euthanasia, the victims of human trafficking, new forms of slavery, and every form of rejection.”
This is true — aside from such nebulous references as “underprivileged” or “every form of rejection.” Lacking some material goods or being turned down for the prom may be painful, but not the same as “covert euthanasia.”
All human life is sacred. Including those of Donald Trump and even sinful atheists. What people do with their lives is another matter.
Although vulnerable, not every one of the groups on this Pope Francis list is equally threatened. And the Pope never has approved massive abortion.
Only the lives of the innocent preborn as an entire class have been declared constitutionally worthless by judicial autocrats in the United States. Kill them as you please, when you please. Even a vicious murderer has gone through a prolonged legal process before he was convicted, and then can pursue appeals.
As one pro-life group’s photo of an imperiled preborn baby innocently sucking her thumb had said, “No judge, no jury, and no right to appeal.”
It’s not only logical but required that the most vulnerable, the preborn, receive the preferential option for our energies, without our saying only their lives matter. If you have four children in a family, you care for them all, but the weakest comes first.
Destroying The Nation’s Soul
Biden’s campaign website that proclaims his “Battle for the Soul of the Nation” is so ghastly inappropriate that it makes one gasp and cringe. Unless Biden means his battle is to destroy this nation’s soul with his gang of abortionists and anti-Catholic bigots, in which case we’d agree that’s his intention.
The notion that extremist Biden could unite the nation is beyond possibility unless his kindred rioting thugs lock the rest of us up, then Biden proclaims unity is achieved.
Even when we grant all the above reflections on Biden, the importance of the preborn and other basic moral issues like male-female marriage stands firm regardless of whether the Democrat Party presents us with him, an anti-Catholic like Kamala Harris, or some other politician. Sometimes, ya know, it’s hard to think that Biden even has the energy to remain in the presidential race.
Has Biden just been fooling about being so weak and confused, but then he’ll leap up to hound President Trump through their three scheduled debates? Or has karma actually left the Party of Death and Depravity stuck with exactly what it deserves, a sickly Biden?
An editorial posted at the New York Post on September 7 noted that Biden barely seems able to get through making simple comments without scripts and notes, and that he reads aloud his handlers’ cues intended only for his own eyes, such as “end of quote” and “topline message.”
Even with the words in front of him, the Post said, Biden delivered this: “And uh, in addition to that, uh, in addition to that, we have to, uh, make sure that we, uh, we are in a position that we are, well, let me, let me go to the second thing. I’ve spoke enough on that” — while he made gestures that he needed the teleprompter moved.
After a woman asked Biden a prepared question at a Labor Day event, he just stared ahead and said either “Moving up here” or “Move it up here,” then waited four seconds before starting to respond. He was telling his crew to get his prepared response up for him to read.
Unelected And Unaccountable
The Wanderer asked conservative Republican political consultant Constantin Querard about incidents like this.
“He does that quite often,” Querard said. “He’s getting ‘random’ questions from audience members, but the questions are planted and the answers are written down for him. All he needs to do is read them and act natural.
“Obviously he’s having a tough time doing even that, but the media is largely covering for him and acting like it isn’t happening, so a large portion of the general public is still remarkably unaware the kind of shape he’s in,” he said.
“That’s why the debates are so important.” Querard added. “For Republicans, the danger is that they’ve made such a big deal of Biden’s frailty, they have lowered the bar to a very low level for his debate performance. He could deliver a solid 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 and come across like the winner because of diminished expectations.
“We need to remember he was on a debate stage just months ago with a number of Democratic rivals and did okay, so he’s capable of doing it,” he said. “Granted, that was as one of many so there wasn’t the same focus or pressure, but he got through those well enough.”
Querard also observed that left-wingers might like having a president they can control more easily — “a lot of folks on the left relish the idea of a mentally frail president because it means senior staff will be running the country, and they’re unelected and largely unaccountable.”
