In Illinois… Forced Rentals For Illegals

By BARBARA SIMPSON

Anyone who has paid any attention at all to the situation at our Southern border, knows that we, as American citizens, have a great problem with people entering this country illegally and taking advantage of the benefits due to American citizens.

There are millions of them, and we have no idea where they are or what they are doing. It seems as though every day the situation gets worse, depending on how you look at it.

The latest that I saw deals with the state of Illinois and how it interprets its Human Rights Act. There is a new law in the state which deals with landlords and their rights to rent or sell their properties.

The new law is SB 1817. This attempt to expand housing rights to undocumented immigrants was led by Democratic State Sen. Ann Gillespie. State Sen. Gillespie argued that the bill would make sure people are not “unjustly denied housing.”

“This law sets clear boundaries, protecting the rights of immigrants and ensuring that financial institutions and service providers cannot engage in discriminatory practices,” Gillespie said in a press release, according to Yahoo News.

It was signed by the Democrat governor, J.B. Pritzker, in June. The law will go into effect in early 2024 and will add “protections in the Illinois Human Rights Act for housing regarding immigration status protection.”

Essentially the law adds immigration status to the list of protected classes in the Human Rights Act and citizens have no rights to object.

The bottom line of the law means that landlords will be forced to rent or sell to illegal (undocumented) aliens even if they have concerns about turning their property over to criminals who are breaking the law just by being in the state and the country.

What it means is that the illegals have rights over and above those of American citizens — and the citizens can do nothing about it.

What it means is that illegal aliens are a preferred group and with rights over and above those of citizens. They are protected and there is nothing citizens can do to object.

During the COVID concern, when the situation spread across the country, there was an eviction moratorium imposed — but now that COVID is essentially over, the moratorium has been expanded to include all sales and rentals of private property. It has nothing to do with COVID.

What it means is that illegal aliens have rights over and above those of American citizens and in fact, they have rights that are better than those protecting citizens.

Whether laws like this will spread across to other states remains to be seen, but given our history, it would not surprise me. There is no indication from Washington that the Biden administration has any qualms about the number of illegal individuals invading our country — multimillions of them — and the effect of their being here has on our country.

If Illinois has the right to force citizens to rent to illegals, where do we draw the line? Is there no limit to the rights of illegals as they continue their residence in this country?

I don’t know what the answer is, but the issue is one that is not going to go away and there is no indication from either political party as to how they intend to address the issues.

The distressing part of all of this is that the Illinois situation is something that has as not gotten much, if any, attention nationally. The law was passed, and it remains in effect. The residual effect it will have on the state remains to be seen.

I suspect it will not be pretty.
