Killing America

October 16, 2017 Frontpage No Comments

By REY FLORES

While I’m not a fan of the pompous Bill O’Reilly, I liked how he named his series of books with titles such as Killing Lincoln, Killing Kennedy, Killing Patton, and so on. I thought it only appropriate given the state of our nation today to title a column “Killing America.”
While the secular radical left wants us all to believe that our nation is gasping for its last breath, this is factually untrue. It’s fake news, if you will.
Quite honestly, I am tired of writing about how some of our own citizens have been totally brainwashed by the mainstream media into believing that our country is such an awful place.
I couldn’t think of a place I’d rather live than these great United States of America. Of course, I’ve fantasized about having a villa in Italy or Spain, or a great big “rancho” in the country of my ancestry, Mexico; but reality says that the United States is my destiny — and I’m OK with that.
What other country would allow free speech to the point of ridicule? People do not understand that these freedoms we have in our nation are privileges, not just rights. It’s like the free will God has given us, to do what we ought to do, not just what we want to do.
Everyone in our great nation has an opportunity, or many opportunities, to better ourselves in a variety of ways. We are a nation that can provide for just about every human need of its citizens, including the illegal aliens who came here.
The safety nets which have been put in place are there for us to use in our time of need. The sad thing is that many people abuse the social welfare programs just because they’re too unmotivated to work for a living.
I personally mind the fact that some Latino immigrants come here expecting a handout from our government, which is pretty much funded by our own tax dollars. While many Latino immigrants do work hard, there are also those don’t.
And it’s not just the newly arrived people who abuse the system. There are families who have unfortunately grown accustomed to generational dependency on the welfare programs, which are meant to be a safety net to catch us when we’re down. It isn’t a safety “bed” for us to simply lie down on it and let everyone else take care of us.
The freedoms we have in this country are why so many people come here. What other nation could be as attractive as the United States? Despite our flaws — for example, the liberal loonies on the left — we are the best country on the entire planet.
The United States of America is one of the few places which is not dominated by any specific race, culture, or ethnicity. We are truly the melting pot of lore. There are so many varieties of people in our country, people whom we can learn about in our daily interactions, without having to leave our own backyard.
My parents came here from Mexico in the 1950s and 1960s. They always worked hard for my sisters and for me, and never took a dime from the social welfare system. There was a work ethic which they valued to the point of suffering, rather than to take a handout from the government.
I admire the immigrants who come from other nations and immediately start their own businesses and become productive Americans, rather than just mooching off the welfare dole. Their entrepreneurial spirit is exactly what our nation provides for, and expects from, anyone living in our great land.
Don’t give me that nonsense that Christopher Columbus was a racist genocidal maniac. Sure, he wasn’t the first to “discover” our nation, but, nevertheless, he did help usher in the evolution of a land that was undeveloped.
America is not the cesspool that many leftist radicals say it is. I often ask them why they remain here if they hate America so much. They never come up with any good reason; they’ll just say that they are here because they want to change the supposed injustices of racism, discrimination, and the phobia du jour that they’ll pick out of thin air.
What really makes my blood boil is when these anti-American radicals burn our flag or place it on the ground to stomp on it. What good can come out of such immature and offensive behavior? Absolutely nothing.
Take Obama’s buddy, the “mad bomber” Bill Ayers. He took a photograph of himself standing on an American flag. What do stupid people like him get from doing things like that? What message is he trying to get across? That he hates America? Hate it all you want, but take it out of here and go burn American flags in Iran or North Korea.
My country is one where I can do what I ought to do, and where if I apply myself, I can do just about anything I set out to do.
All people who live in the United States should be on their knees thanking God for the great blessing they have been given to live, and thrive, in the greatest of nations. I’d like to see how far some of these radical lefties would get with their stupid protests in places like Egypt or Russia.
Our land is a great Christian nation where no matter who you are, you can do whatever you like. The problem is that many of us take this nation and its freedoms for granted.

As Catholics we must band together to rediscover our faith and share it with the world if we are to effectively counter a society whose moral culture seems to have no boundaries and a government whose rapidly extending reach threatens to extinguish the rights of people of faith to practice their religion (witness the HHS mandate). Now more than ever, vehicles like The Wanderer are needed for clarification and guidance on the issues of the day.

Catholic, conservative, orthodox, and loyal to the Magisterium have been this journal’s hallmarks for five generations. God willing, our message will continue well into this century and beyond.

Catechism

Today . . .

This week at the Synod on Synodality — revolution or much ado about nothing?

Perhaps it is in the very nature of the Synod on Synodality to take steps back after having taken several steps forward. But the tone of the opening days of the synod’s final general assembly makes it apparent that, for the moment, there is no talk of revolution within the Church.  That tone was set days before the gathering got underway this week at the Vatican, when in his speech in Belgium on Sept. 27, Pope Francis…Continue Reading
