New Year’s Revolutions

January 5, 2019 Frontpage No Comments

By CHRISTOPHER MANION

“I’ve lied all my life” — Bill Clinton Intern Monica Lewinsky.

+ + +

Democrat Elizabeth Warren, the senior senator from Massachusetts, has finally come clean: She is not an Indian. She is not even a Native American. All those years that she sought minority status in order to achieve positions of honor dishonorably — they’re all history now. Fauxcahantas has finally come clean.
Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr, who bestowed the “Fauxcahantas” sobriquet on Ms. Warren years ago, is finally vindicated — but don’t expect to see him applauded in the Fake News Media. No way they’re gonna go there. Warren, their crabby, petulant, pompous socialist darling, has betrayed them. They defended her “Native Americanism” for years, not with logic and rational discourse but with epithets. They didn’t have anything else, but they rarely do.
The Fakers have built their entire industry on sand — a desert full of concoctions, fabrications, and lies — and then more lies to justify their previous lies. And that tactic tends to cause problems now and then. As Law Dean Clarence Manion often told his students at Notre Dame (where he began teaching law in 1919), “If you tell the first lie, you may as well tell the rest.”
A liar is the gift who keeps on giving — and lying. Then: Uh-oh! As Sen. Jesse Helms would explain in a drawl and an arched eyebrow, “Son, pretty soon you forget what lie you told to whom.”
So eventually you’re caught. What happens next? The dialectic. What was true yesterday might not be true today — if it furthers the power agenda, it’s true. If it hampers the agenda, it’s always been false. The Ministry of Truth makes sure of that, with ample use of the Memory Hole.
So Democrats who supported the border wall when they knew it would never happen, suddenly oppose it when the prospect enters the realm of remote possibility. Neoconservatives who drove the engine of America’s Middle East wars fifteen years ago now insist that today’s disasters are not their fault — but they promise that their next war will be different! Down is up.

Socialism Saves!

“No one can really understand the political left without understanding that they are about making themselves feel superior” — Thomas Sowell.
For the past two years and more, the left’s sole public agenda item has been Trump hatred, 24/7. However, below the surface, ideology hasn’t been ignored. For the Democrat Party, ignorance is strength. The brain-dead, pro-abortion, power-hungry party is casually drifting toward the socialist abyss. Leading Democrats cheerfully flaunt their defiance of reality as they indulge their burning hatred of the ungrateful Deplorables whose well-being they have so long pretended to champion.
Why the lost love? Well, we don’t love Big Brother. And Big Brother’s not going to take it anymore.
When the 116th Congress is sworn in on the third of January, Nancy Pelosi will be the nominal Speaker of the House, but the only Democrats espousing a defined agenda will be the socialists, led by newly elected Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez. This celebrated nitwit upset New York Democrat Party kingpin Cong. Joseph Crowley in November. Crowley had led the House Democrat Caucus, and his colleagues were stunned. For several elections, nobody had even bothered to challenge him.
Ocasio-Cortez’s surprise victory, and her zealous advocacy of socialism, earned fawning attention from the usual suspects, but her babbling ignorance, as unvarnished as it is vast, has embarrassed some Democrats while its success has intimidated others.
Prima Donna Ocasio-Cortez (PDOC) has bragged that as a member of the House she would be “inaugurated,” that her office was just two doors down from Nancy Pelosi’s, and that she could personally subpoena Republicans. She advocates a federal government takeover of all higher education, Medicare for all, federally guaranteed housing, universal federally funded employment, and abolition of U.S. border control agencies.
To seal the deal, she will no doubt soon promise to wipe out the trillion-dollar student debt burden. That will win her millions of millennials and more who will, however briefly, applaud the wonders of socialism as they finally become solvent.
Consider: Socialist paradises like Cuba, China, and Venezuela offer all those benefits already. Even though PDOC has a diploma from one of America’s most expensive universities, she apparently has never heard of those countries. In that, she shares the ignorance so common to her generation. Unfortunately, instead of suing her alma mater for malpractice, she ran for Congress.
PDOC’s fellow socialist, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, is some fifty years her senior. He has heard of Venezuela. So, when asked about socialism’s record where it has actually been tried, he has had the good sense to shut up.
Not Ms. PDOC. In fact, she has already rounded up 31 Democrats who have joined in her call for a “Green New Deal,” a socialist manifesto that will, of course, drive the country into economic and social collapse.
Such boorish blather would be laughed off the stage in the real world, but the left’s flight from reality is not only gaining speed in Washington, it’s gaining ground. Thrilled pundits propose a Sanders-PDOC Democrat ticket to oppose Trump in 2020. After all, theirs is the only platform the Democrats have, apart from hating Trump.
However, we have to bear in mind that Trump is simply the channel for their hatred: It’s the Deplorables they hate, all of us. In Professor Sowell’s words, we have rejected their superiority and called it by its proper name — arrogant narcissism.
They are enraged. They want revenge. Their House victory has already sent the stock market into a tailspin. In Anno Domini 2019, expect more of the same. The left will do everything possible to ruin the economy, paralyzing enterprise and long-term investment. They’ll blame it all on Trump. The left thrives in chaos, because as Russell Kirk once observed, when faced with a choice between chaos and security, most folks will choose security.
And as we have learned from the Deep State, once the country turns to the government to provide that security, all the pieces will be in place for a turnkey tyranny. For the left, gaining power will just be a matter of time.

Immodest Proposals

All tyrants seek to gain power and to keep it. The Communist ideology has been the most successful tool in achieving that goal in history, but it succeeds by calling itself by another name. To make its pitch for power, the left calls our Republic by another name as well: “Democracy.”
In recent weeks, Hillary Clinton has called for the abolition of the Electoral College. This plan would allow voters in a handful of cities and the Left Coast elect the president. Civility won’t return, Ms. Clinton makes clear, until she gets to win.
In the spirit of democracy, Democrat John Dingell, the longest-serving House member in history, goes further. He wants to abolish the U.S. Senate as well. After all, this constitutional anachronism is unfair: It gives the states of Montana and New Hampshire the same representation as California and New York, a perversion of the supreme good of equality.
Clinton and Dingell do not call their proposals revolutionary. They simply put them on the record, and the entire Elite Self-Preservation-Complex resonates them. Why, the destruction of the Constitution is as routine as getting a license for your dog! Nothing to see here, move along.
Danger ahead? One caveat: The revolution always eats its own. And with their growing power, leftists are now spending their time not only hating Trump, but hating each other.
Stay tuned.

Now more than ever, vehicles like The Wanderer are needed for clarification and guidance on the issues of the day.

Catholic, conservative, orthodox, and loyal to the Magisterium have been this journal’s hallmarks for five generations. God willing, our message will continue well into this century and beyond.

Abortion Advocates No Longer Consider It “A Necessary Evil,” They Celebrate Killing Babies

Last week, Kamala Harris became the first vice president in U.S. history to make a public visit to an abortion clinic. Though the Democratic party’s support for abortion is nothing new, Harris’ Planned Parenthood appearance does illustrate how that support has become a flagrant celebration of abortion as a public and personal good, essential to both “freedom” and to “healthcare.” At the appearance, Harris proclaimed,  It is only right and fair that people have access…Continue Reading
