No Cookies For You!

By REY FLORES

I send a great big salute and thank you to the courageous Archbishop Joseph Naumann of the Archdiocese of Kansas in Kansas City, Kans., for officially throwing the Girls Scouts of America (GSA) and their cookies out of every parish in his archdiocese. (See related story on p. 8A.)

For years Catholics have been bickering back and forth about the controversial Girl Scouts program, which at one time wasn’t controversial. But since GSA has adopted a more radical social platform, the organization has become incompatible with the Catholic Church.

For years, my friend John Pisciotta, who runs Pro-Life Waco in Waco, Texas, has been one of the soldiers heading the battle against Girl Scout because of GSA’s support of modernist feminist notions, which include abortion, contraception, and homosexuality.

When I asked Pisciotta about Archbishop Naumann’s latest statements, Pisciotta responded, “It’s a blow to them!” It is certainly a blow to the GSA which today has become yet another peddler of abortion and perversion to America’s youth.

Since 2004, Catholics in Texas and across the country had been trying to call attention to the fact that the GSA had been collaborating with Planned Parenthood to promote a sex education program called Nobody’s Fool.

Apparently, the GSA allowed the Devil into its home by letting Planned Parenthood have access to the Girl Scouts themselves. Planned Parenthood’s Nobody’s Fool program took the opportunity to distribute the pornographic sex-ed book It’s Perfectly Normal.

International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) has also provided ample copies of its Happy, Healthy and Hot brochure to the girls who at one time learned about camping, hiking, community service, and not how to be “hot.”

You may recall that a few years back, American Life League did an excellent video exposé on Planned Parenthood and the It’s Perfectly Normal book, which features graphic illustrations of children masturbating, all sorts of genitalia, and adults engaged in sexual intercourse.

This is the kind of garbage you are supporting when you buy a box of Girl Scout cookies. I never thought they were anything special and they seemed like regular old cookies to me, but I have known a few goofy Catholics who say they can’t give up the GSA cookies despite knowing what evil agendas the GSA now promotes.

In its plan to transform all that is good into evil, one Planned Parenthood council gave its “Woman of Distinction” Award to a local GSA leader, which of course was a tactic by Planned Parenthood to infiltrate and eventually taint the once wholesome institution the same way that homosexual radicals helped destroy the Boy Scouts of America.

What Archbishop Naumann has done is not just clergy “expressing concern,” but bringing down the hammer on an institution which has continued to operate in parishes across the country as if nothing was wrong.

How could anyone who calls himself a Catholic continue to buy these bland and ordinary cookies, let alone enroll their daughters into the GSA?

What people need to realize is that when you buy “just one box” of GSA cookies, that enables another batch of Happy, Healthy and Hot brochures that the GSA can hand out to little girls.

When you buy a box of Girl Scout cookies, you might as well hand the girls a pornographic magazine or video.

If you think I’m being melodramatic and a bit over the top, so be it. I don’t care.

Bishops across the country need to follow Archbishop Naumann’s lead here and do the same in their dioceses. It takes one courageous individual to stand up against an institution which may seem innocuous and harmless at first glance, but has an insidious agenda all the same.

Planned Parenthood does not waste time. When it sees an opportunity, it takes it. Like a serpent, it slithers its way into schools for decades, and when the opportunity arose in 2004, it pounced on the Girl Scouts.

If anyone at a Catholic parish involved in a GSA chapter at your parish in any way disagrees with what I wrote here, you aren’t disagreeing with me, but with Church teaching.

I call for a boycott of not only Girl Scout cookies, but of the entire GSA program itself. There’s no excuse when American Heritage Girls (AHG) is a perfect replacement for the GSA.

AHG programs offer all the wonderful things the GSA once did — without attacking Christian morals. The girls will learn about campfires and how to safely put them out, unlike the GSA which is helping them learn how to be “hot.”

Kudos and a great big bravo to Archbishop Naumann who pointed out also that GSA “contributes more than a million dollars each year to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGS), an organization tied to International Planned Parenthood.”

You want cookies? Go home and bake some with your daughters while praying the rosary.
